eduardomaio Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Hello, Can please someone check my application status? Username: eduardomaio Category: World > Português > Passatempos > Automóveis The category doesn't have an editor and i'm really looking forward to that. Eduardo Maio
donwiebe Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Your application has been received and is awaiting review by a meta editor who speaks Portuguese.
eduardomaio Posted July 2, 2004 Author Posted July 2, 2004 Thanks for the quick answer! My application was submited in english, will this be a problem?
bobrat Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I don't approved editors, but you might note that all sites that go in that category are in Portuguese. If you submitted sites in English with English descriptions....
eduardomaio Posted July 2, 2004 Author Posted July 2, 2004 I didn't know this... I've added portuguese websites, but with english descriptions (at least i think so). Should I re-apply for that category or should I wait until my application is denied and re-apply again? I did this because i've seen some questions in portuguese with english descriptions, and other questions that were in english so i misunderstood that. Thanks again for the quick reply!
bobrat Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 You should wait for the results of your first application to be returned.
Meta tuisp Posted July 2, 2004 Meta Posted July 2, 2004 The descriptions of the examples in this application are in Portuguese...
lisahinely Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 I did this because i've seen some questions in portuguese with english descriptions, and other questions that were in english so i misunderstood that. You're talking about on the editor application, right? That is pretty crazy. I guess if we had more Portuguese-speaking editors we could get all the forms translated so that we could get more Portuguese-speaking editors...

If you want, you can see by yourself http://dmoz.org/cgi-bin/apply.cgi?submit=Proceed&where=World%2FPortugu%C3%AAs%2FPassatempos%2FAutom%C3%B3veis&id=&lk=&loc= Some fields in portuguese, others in English. For example: Escolha um nome: This will be visible to the public at the bottom of category and in your editor profile. You won't be allowed to change your username if your application is accepted. Editors are not permitted to have multiple usernames. This would be, if fully in portuguese something like that: Escolha um nome: Este nome vai estar visivel para o público no rodapé da categoria e no seu perfil de editor. Não é permitida a alteração deste nome se a sua aplicação for aceite. Os editores não têm permissão de usar multiplos nomes.
bobrat Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Maybe in the meantime, we could add something like "Even though [some of] this application form is in English, please respond in Portuguese" Now I can see why this would lead to confusion.
Meta tuisp Posted July 2, 2004 Meta Posted July 2, 2004 Tks, I just copied your translation of that part of the application form into the translation tool. Might take a day or two before the public form is updated, though.
aldreis Posted July 2, 2004 Posted July 2, 2004 Now I can see why this would lead to confusion. You have no idea. I became so insecure about this that I even added an "I´m assuming that I must write my application in Portuguese. Please, if i´m mistaken etc. etc." to my self-description.
lisahinely Posted July 3, 2004 Posted July 3, 2004 Maybe in the meantime, we could add something like "Even though [some of] this application form is in English, please respond in Portuguese" In addition to making that clear... We have the whole application form, and the supporting information, in Spanish. Until we can get the whole thing in Portuguese, wouldn't it be more helpful to use Spanish as the "default", rather than English? I'm thinking that someone who is fluent in Portuguese would be a whole lot more likely to have reading knowledge of Spanish than of English.

I've already send some translations for that page, it is updated now. The question here isn't the understading, because I don't understand spanish (it is really too diferent from portuguese, specially brazilian-portuguese, and english is a world wide language), the question is, because the aplication form was in two languages it would lead to a confusion if the form should be submited in english or portuguese.
