Guest pramukh Posted May 29, 2003 Posted May 29, 2003 Good day! I was hoping to see if ecrystalradio.com has been reviewed. I submitted it on April 30 to this category: http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Antiques_and_Collectibles/Radios Any idea of how many other sites jrose is having to look at before mine? Thanks for your time! <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
Guest Posted May 30, 2003 Posted May 30, 2003 Your site is awating review in that category, along with less than 20 other sites.
giz Posted July 16, 2003 Posted July 16, 2003 We are not doing any Status Reports this week as per sticky thread at top of forum.
Meta hutcheson Posted August 11, 2003 Meta Posted August 11, 2003 It is waiting review with a dozen or three other sites.
giz Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 Why has the original poster now got 0 posts? What happened to other messages in this thread?
dfy Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 That'll be due to the bug that ate some of the members a while back. The name attached to the first post is probably someone completely unrelated.
bobrat Posted August 12, 2003 Posted August 12, 2003 Probably tinkerbell http://www.resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=status&Number=35492&Forum=All_Forums&Words=ecrystalradio.com%20&Match=Entire%20Phrase&Searchpage=0&Limit=25&Old=6months&Main=35301&Search=true#Post35492
tinkerbell Posted August 27, 2003 Posted August 27, 2003 Yes, thank you! This is tinkerbell. Finally able to use a different computer. For whatever reason, the forum won't accept my host anymore and won't let me post. But thank you for the new update.
Meta windharp Posted August 27, 2003 Meta Posted August 27, 2003 Most likely it is a firewall issue, at least this was reported frequently. Try to tweak your firewall so it lets you access this forum again. Curlie Meta/kMeta Editor windharp
tinkerbell Posted September 26, 2003 Posted September 26, 2003 Just checking in again on the status of my site... Hope I am getting nearer to the top of the list??
lachenm Posted September 26, 2003 Posted September 26, 2003 I have two answers for you: First, and most importantly, the status hasn't changed. Your site is still awaiting review in that category. Sorry the news isn't better. Second, there is no "top of the list," so technically you can't be getting nearer to it -- or farther from it. ODP volunteer editors can sort site suggestions in several ways, and they aren't required to edit sites in any particular order anyhow. Many editors often try to work on the oldest suggestions first, but they aren't required to do so.
tinkerbell Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 Thanks lachenm. However, that has to be the MOST discouraging thing I could ever have heard (to know that I can have 12 sites in front of me to having 40 before me). Makes me tend to think I need a catchier name, a bigger business??? to get looked at? I just don't understand how I can be looked at if there is no set rule. With that said, and knowing that it doesn't really matter how many sites are before me...could I find out how many are sitting there before mine? Any change in status? Thanks!
lachenm Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 Sorry, tinkerbell, there is no change in status yet. But the picture isn't quite as bleak as the one you paint. Your site is awaiting review with fewer than 25 others. Again, I can't tell you how many sites are before or after you in line, because there really isn't a line. Editors can sort entries in several ways, including alphabetically. Your site could be in several different places depending on how an editor views the category. I can almost guarantee you that a catchier name is going to make little or no difference to an editor. It may make a difference to your potential shoppers, which is probably where I would direct my marketing efforts. One thing that sometimes can make a difference (but doesn't always) is a site that has a title and description that conform to the ODP Guidelines, since, if it's easy to add, it may make an editor more eager to look at it.
tinkerbell Posted October 27, 2003 Posted October 27, 2003 Thanks again! I do have a question about this quote: One thing that sometimes can make a difference (but doesn't always) is a site that has a title and description that conform to the ODP Guidelines, since, if it's easy to add, it may make an editor more eager to look at it. I can't say what I wrote as a title and description for the site as it was 6 months ago. But I DO know they were very accurate and completely within odp guideline. For people looking for crystal radios, I have a pretty good domain and title/description on the site. Unfortunately, the site has gone through some changes and focuses since submitting originally. I'm afraid to go back and change as I don't want to lose my place in line! ha-ha Really, that's why I've never gone back to change the desription. We focused THEN on the more 'museum type' exotic wood radios 6 months ago and the description matched that. NOW we are focused on kits and doing much better at that description. I am afraid now of what he may put as it is an old description. CAN I go back and change it and will it effect any thing? Can I go in and edit or does it just go in as a second submission?
tinkerbell Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 Just checking to see if there was any movement at all in my category? Perhaps Santa will bring me a listing... Any updates?
jswafford Posted December 4, 2003 Posted December 4, 2003 Unfortunately, there is nothing new to report. I would however, recommend suggesting your site to http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Arkansas/Localities/S/Saint_Joe/ . A Regional suggestion will not affect your original, and you may end up with two listings. Regional listings usually get reviewed much quicker.
tinkerbell Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 Thanks for the new place to submit...that editor hasn't updated since Dec. 2000. I can't believe how discouraging this is! I was at least in a top 1-20 placement on keywords and now have disappeared. With this as our income, it is really hurting. I wish, wish, wish I could get submitted here.
thehelper Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 I am sorry but there is nothing we can do to help you. Posting in this forum will not faciliate a site review.
tinkerbell Posted February 4, 2004 Posted February 4, 2004 Hmmm?? Kinda confused? I submitted to dmoz last May...I thought I was able to come here once a month to get an update on the status of my site. Sorry for adding irrelevant information in my previous post...was hoping to get an update.
thehelper Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 You may come here once a month to get a status update. I know sometimes it is tough to wait but it is a volunteer directory and we are doing our best.
tinkerbell Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 Thanks Helper!! You guys do a wonderful job, which is why I always come back, read up and try to do my part as well. I think though that my pst was just misunderstood earlier. I took Christmas off and didn't check in for an update then, nor in January.. have gotten a bit lax with the cold weather I guess!! :o Was just checking to see if anyone could go in to see if there was any change in status or whatever for the site. Thanks VERY much...I realize you all get bogged down...and I appreciate the time you take in responding to posts and checking for updates.
lachenm Posted February 5, 2004 Posted February 5, 2004 Since no one has actually given you an explicit update since December... Your site is still awaiting review in both categories.
tinkerbell Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 Hello! Just checking to see if there has been any change of status for http://www.ecrystalradio.com Also, I did not realize, but went in through another search engine and submitted under a different category..I assume it said dmoz somewhere on it, but it didn't occur to me that I was messing up, if in case, I did mess up!! The other category I submitted to was http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Consumer_Electronics/Communications/Wireless/Radios/Kits_and_Components Have I caused a problem in submitting to this other category? It really is a more accurate category, but I'll be very happy wherever I am put. Thank you for any updates!
spectregunner Posted March 8, 2004 Posted March 8, 2004 Also, I did not realize, but went in through another search engine and submitted under a different category..I assume it said dmoz somewhere on it, but it didn't occur to me that I was messing up, if in case, I did mess up!! Not to worry. We can differentiate between an accidential additional submission and willful spamming. The additional submission will not be held against you. :moz:
tinkerbell Posted April 8, 2004 Posted April 8, 2004 submission status Happy early Easter!! Just checking the submission status for www.ecrystalradio.com .
