Hi, If you do a search for avrepair.com on dmoz's main site, you see that it is listed in 2 catagories. Fine, but when you go to each catagory, the site is NOT listed in the results. When I go to each listing, it's there, but I cannot pull up a screen that has 'update url' on the top. It is as if avrepair.com isnt listed... Can anyone help? Many thanks- electman

Hi I have been trying to submit a site "www.ukplasticfabrication.co.uk" but I keep getting the error message that my IP adress could not be read. I presume this is a problem with my ISP so I will try posting another day, but since I tried to submit about 6 - 10 times if it did go through am I likely to be banned for spamming. Ian

Hello, I'm trying to apply for the following category: Top: World: Español: Sociedad: Relaciones: Búsqueda de pareja But after I fill in the application and submit it, it just redirects me to the "Become an Editor at the Open Directory Project" page. I know I should get a confirmation message and an email, but I don't get any of these things. I have tried submitting several times, and it happened exactly the same. Is there a problem?

What kind of errors are in the RDF dump which need to be filtered in order to have all data without loosing any? Will a Jena parser be able to read everything without filtering? What would be the fastes approach to retrieve only a sub-branch of the whole dmoz dump? Does anyone of you happen to know a quick-and-dirty grep pattern in order to filter out all data that does NOT include a certain directory, e.g. Top/Science/blabla in order to just have a specific branch? Thanks!

The dmoz directory search function is not working properly at the moment. It is failing to return results for listed sites. Our technical staff is aware of the problem and believes it will be fixed soon.

I think this might be a minor bug with the forums, but when I logged in today I got this message... Two things with that -- 1) I was not born yet 2) DMOZ wasn't even thought of at that date, I think.

Update Time Stamp

According to the RDF samples, there is not a "site last updated/validated" timestamp, yet it seems that the official RDF documenation allows such a date. It would seem that this could be implimented for "newly touched" entries only, and would be extremely usefull within 6 to 12 months. This would allow users of the RDF data (if not direct users of dmoz) to be able to judge the summary of a site (and likelyhood of accuracy) by how old the listing update is. I initially felt this would be most usefull at ChefMoz.org, but since have come to think it would be equally usefull directly in the dmoz.

My wishes/features for DMOZ

I feel that DMOZ have a lot of lacks regarding Human Editors and programming behind. When I say this, I based on my experience with DMOZ and as an retired editor. (but reapply soon :-) What I observed and I don't like it ... (probabbly most of this was discussed) If you submit a site, you expect to have a history about what is happened with your site. For example I submitted my site and I gived out my e-mail address (in case they needed). This e-mail address will be never used to notify me about my page, about the status of the page, about why was rejected, or if was approved. So nothing about feedback to site owner. 1. I think is not to hard to DMOZ to s…

suggestion on DMOZ weighting system

I'm not sure if it's appproriate but I give it below: The DMOZ category structure at the moment is just a category. Websites in a same category are simply listed according to the time when it was approved. From the category, we don't know which one is weighted highly. It still leaves us a hard decision on which one we should pay a visit to. The problem is less obvious when they are just small category with limited amount of websites. But when the catoegory grows, this will a problem which we have to take a serious look at. Here I give a possible solution. And I hope some of project involvers can make comments on it, and most importantly, further the idea. W…

Unresolved Problem + "Update URL" form broken
by Guest mkern- 1 reply

Upon searching the phrase "FPL Group", the first two results delivered, each with a different title, erroneously reflect the same fpl.com URL. In positoin #1, the result titled "Florida Power & Light" is correctly associated with the fpl.com URL. However, in position #2 the result titled "FPL Group, Inc." does not have the correct URL, which should be "www.fplgroup.com". I've tried NUMEROUS times throughout the year to change this via the update URL form at "Business: Major Companies: Publicly Traded: F", but to no avail as the form delivers an error message that reads "Bad category. You may not submit your site to this category". Can someone please manually help …

According to the RDF dump, there are a number of occasions where the same site with the same title and same description appears in the same category twice. Conducting a search on the ODP at http://search.dmoz.org/ shows the "2 sites in one category" problem in the search results, but does not show the problem in the actual categories themselves. Examples: Category: http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/L URL: http://www.geocities.com/parttimelife/ Title/Description: Lazaras - Punk/metal band. Biography, news, schedule and mp3 downloads. Search Result exhibiting the problem: http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=lazaras Category: Category: http://dm…
