The category for virtual pet games used to be dmoz.org/Games/Online/Virtual_Pets/Simulated_Pets/Horses/ Apparently it has been moved to http://dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Simulation/Virtual_Pets/Horses/ However the database hasn't been synchronized with the new structure, and given that the last time the two were synchronized, was in October it does not look like it is going to be done soon. It appears that for some misterious reason Virtual_pets category was moved from /Games/Online to /Games/Video_Games/Simulation/Virtual_Pets, meaning that none of the searches returned by dmoz is going to work. I am saying misterious reason because that category belongs to the …

I have fairly recently submitted my site to be added to a category. Category= Regional:North America:United States:California::Counties:Mendocino:Travel & Tourism My Site= mendocinoconneciton.com This category is actually very small, the county itself is relatively unpopulated. It appears to me that this category is not actively being updated. One link (Mendocino County Promotional Alliance) is a broken link and has been for quite awhile. Several other links although obviously relevant are not listed. Plus, although not conclusive in itself, the category has a "become an editor" link at the bottom. The question is, should I apply to become an editor? Bei…

Dear DMOZ folks -- First, thanks for volunteering your time for this resource... And thanks for reading this posting. I have a question about cross-posting sites in categories. I requested the inclusion of my web literary journal in "Arts: Literature: Journals" as it's a long-running litmag with a general audience even though it features queer fiction. (Our credentials and history as a literary journal with an audience that includes non-queer literary readers is documented after my signature.) But it's limited to a listing in "Arts: Literature: Cultural: Gay, Lesbian, and Bisexual: Online Writing". Now, I can swallow my pride and accept being excluded from …

I'm terribly sorry if this is in the wrong place, but I just submitted my site to dmoz, and I was just wondering if I put it in the right place. It is a board all about one show, "Gilmore Girls" the most specific category I could find however was "Forums and Chats" under Television. I read that only boards about more then one show are supposed to go there though, so I wasn't sure what to do with my boards....can anyone help me? If its in the wrong place is there anyway to move it? Thanks so much!

Curious here... isthere a way to see a categories age? Also, if there are 100 submissions to Cat1, and in during reviews Cat1-SubCat1 is created, are the reviewers able throw the submissions that were in before the new sub-category, into the new sub-category? Clear as mud? Thanks! Mike

Hello, I hope this is appropriate forum for my question... I believe we had our site, http://www.behidden.com, still listed under http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Proxying_and_Filtering/Hosted_Proxy_Services/Free/ category about month ago. It was in Dmoz directory I think for over one year. Now it is not there. Has it been moved or deleted? Do I need to resubmit it again? Can someone shed some light at its status and what we should do to get it listed again? I hope there is a quicker way then resubmitting it as a new site. Thank you! Jack

How do I suggest a category. For example, "Health" is missing from a regional catgory relevant to one of my sites, and there is no other relevant category for me to list in?

Hi DMOZ folks and readers. I have several things I would like to discuss, and felt that this was an appropriate place to post this discussion to. While I truly do not wish to be an editor, I would sincerely like to offer some feedback for the Categories that I am TRULY hoping for massive improvement. I would also like this to be actually read - and not treated as a "self-promotion" post. OK? I am interested in the GAMBLING FIELD entries. Before you shake your head because you do not appreciate this topic - please be aware that this IS a topic that a LARGE population around the world appreciates and actively uses. And it is deserving of inclusion in an ONLINE D…

If you click "Submit A Site" in the from the following URL: http://dmoz.org/Business/Real_Estate/Appraisal/Directories/ On the next page, a message comes up that says "Submissions to this category should be of real estate appraiser directories that are free to all real estate appraisers to list their services. Sites that charge for a basic listing or otherwise limit the number of listings per state or per location should submit to the the Business/Real Estate/National Referral category." However, there is no such thing as the 'National Referral' category as far as I can tell - did the name of this category change. Can someone please advise where a listing should go…

Each time a Category is updated in DMOZ does that mean all the applications to that category have been approved/denied? I ask because last November I submitted my Hawaiian travel site to the directory. I'm fairly positive it'd be accepted as I have several other sites in DMOZ and I believe it to be one of the best I maintain. I have however noticed the category I submitted it to (and it was the best fit) has been updated twice now, but yet my site remains excluded. Can I take this to mean the site was denied? Or does it just mean the category was updated and my site may still be pending? I too have been a little bit in the dark since the removal of the status ar…

I was recently moved to a category which states that it was last updated 11-03. That is a long time ago. Will this category be updated soon, or is that just some kind of mistake? shopping/regional and ethnic/north american I was moved there from a category that my company had been under for about four years and when we changed Url due to ownership changes we were transfered to start from scatch. Why was my site not updated in its original category after being there so long? Now the site is waiting review once again. New url :http://www.elpasorugs.com old url : http://www.elpasorug.com The old URL is filled with dead links no use to us, but is still listed. Our origin…

Hi, My site( http://www.israelforum.co.il) was under this category: Regional > Middle East > Israel > Society and Culture > Chats and Forums When I search for my site, it still shows up as being in that category...but when I click on the link, i get this: The requested category Regional > Middle East > Israel > Society and Culture > Chats and Forums could not be found. It is likely that this category has been moved to another location within the directory. How xan I find where it is now and whne will it be updated to the correct one?

I have submitted a site to the Health: Addictions: Substance Abuse: Organizations a couple of times over the past year and haven't heard anything about it, nor is the site
showing up in the directory. Since there appears to be no editor for that category, my question is this. Do the submissions just pile up in limbo forever or does another editor step in every so often to clear some of backload? I hate to keep submitting if it's just going to sit there. What's the usual procedure here? Thanks, Richard

Category... gone
by Guest -- 2 replies
- 2.2k views
Hello, I just wanted to ask you expert ODP people about this: My site exactresult.com (after a long wait) was indexed by DMOZ. But I recently saw that the category it was on before (Searching/Search_Engines/Specialized/Pay-Per-Click/Small-Scale_Pay-Per-Click/) is gone. Now, should I submit it to another category? Or it's just an update? Should I ask some of the editors to move my site to an appropiate category or it's gone and I have to submit it all over again? Help!!!!

Censorship
by bvess4- 7 replies

An editor closed and removed my post because I was supposedly only complaining about my site not being listed. Therefore, I've removed any references to my previous discussions and my domain. Isn't it ironic that the "Open Directory Project" would support censorship? This is a valid discussion about the ODP. My site was rejected due to lack of unique content. After pointing out the unique content on my site (hundreds of new pages per day), I was told, in a rude tone (as noted in almost every forum), how the content was still "not unique." How is this possible and acceptable? Does being an editor give someone the right to respond in a rude tone? Yes, I read about…
