We, the Turkish people, condemn the misuse of the Dmoz open source code project. The Turkish department administrator who uses <editor name removed> nickname is a complete Turkish enemy and is a supporter of the illegal terrorist organization PKK. The infamous and showing the Turkish Republic's territory as their map, how could possibly the so called country "Kurdistan" gets a name in the country database? There is No SUCH COUNTRY like Kurdistan. It doesn't exist. And so there is No LANGUAGE such as Kurdish. All of these are made up by the dmoz editor <editor name removed>. We ask you to remove this disrupter from the administrator team i…

We run Active Directoy w/ group policies and this combination works well for the district. Quandry; I was just recently informed that by the start of the new school year, I need to bring into the fold, our mac machines used in the cad labs and our broadcasting labs. I submitted my site (<URL removed>) on 4/11/08 into the category "Business/Marketing and Advertising/Advertising/Signage/Electric/LED". My site/submission title is "<title removed>". I realize that review and acceptance take time, and though sooner would be better than later, I'm not asking for my sites review to be expedited. The problem is that I have no way of knowing if my submission was received/registered. The submission process appeared to go correctly, and I did not get any "error" messages, but I never received a confirmation stating that my site is submitted at the end of the submission. Furthermore, I never received an email confirming submiss…

Someone in our company submitted an entry for our company Ballotpoint that is wrong. I have been trying to get it corrected for over a year now with no success. How, in the world, can I get someone to either change it or delete it. It's causing us real grief.

Is there anyway of finding out if Robozilla/1.0 has a problem accessing my site? grep Robozilla/1.0 /home/web/tech-httpd-access.log = 0 hits grep dmoz /home/web/tech-httpd-access.log = util-n02.dmoz.aol.com The site has been accessed by editors.dmoz.org and 3 urls have been added. However, for some reason only 1 url is currently listed. I use IP blocking software for known problem data centers and rouge bots. It is possible that I've banned an editors IP who may have been checking the site. If I have done so can a url be removed for that reason? Thanks

Is it better for a site to list in more than one category? This must be against the "guidelines" yet I see it time and again. (Yes I have examples) Also, if I ask for a site to be updated and the editor chooses to completely ignore the request for a change to the title and description, what can I do about that? Without of course, having my site booted altogether. I read so much bad propaganda about the ODP I would much prefer to believe that it isn't true. That it is actually a good and altruistic thing and hasn't been hijacked by the forces of cash. Convince me.

Here I would like to give a suggestion and I think this will help the whole management of ODP to decrease the ratio of questions about "site submitted but not listed from last ... years". A list of daily listed websites should be updated in a category where people can get idea that ODP editors are working properly and listing websites. Any comments?

Hello, The background/foreground contrast difference on http://www.resource-zone.com doesn't conform with W3C standards, and it makes the page a bit hard to read... Just a friendly advice...

This is my first visit to this forum and I couldn't resist putting my 2 editorial cents in; as with all debates, there are clearly two sides. ODP editors have the job (voluntarily) of editing the largest human edited directory in existence and webmasters and site owners need backlinks to gain popularity and page rank. With as huge and increasing a workload that this is, the automated algorithm has never replaced it. I tend to agree with the ODP editors in that it is, regardless, just another link. Perhaps not known is to the weight that the link represents and the expense and time of building ecommerce sites. I doubt it was ever intended or designed for anything but what…

Hello, I noticed a grammatical curiosity on the screen which follows submission of a url for consideration: "...We make updates of the data available weekly, but each partner has their own update schedule..." In correct common usage, "each" is singular, so requires a singular "his," as in "To each, his own." I queried Google on this topic and found the following over-the-top exposition on "their" applied, as here, to singular subjects: Everybody (did you know "everybody" and "everyone" are also singular nouns?) loves their Jane Austen Review of this information is likely to cause smiling and head shaking.

Hello, I am a PhD student, and I am doing research on whether DMOZ can be used when searching on the web. I need some volunteers to categorize queries into DMOZ categories. It would be great to have some users in my study that have used DMOZ before. The survey takes between one and one and a half hour and is done over the web. On the webpage: http://home.uva.nl/a.m.kaptein/index.html you can find instructions and a training task. If you are willing to participate, please let me know by sending a mail to a.m.kaptein@uva.nl . You will then be assigned to one of the versions of the survey. Thank you. Kind regards, Rianne Kaptein

Hi, I have a question about the Open Directory Project (ODP). I registered a client in Oct of 2001 and they were up very quickly. In Jan. 2002, I registered two more sites and they still have not been listed. I register them once a month, and the sites are well optimized and doing well on Inktomi's partners. <URL removed>
