As my website is growing it is effectively becoming a lot of mini sites within one. Rather than having to purchase new domains I am splitting my site into a number of different sections each with usually 5 to 20 pages. What is the ODP policy regarding submitting sections of websites? can I submit different sections of one site to different categories within the ODP. Many thanks.

I checked the list of directories using ODP data. Some are giving complete results from DMOZ and some are charging (add url charges). Is this allowed to these search engines? I mean to say if they are using ODP data then they should give same results in their search engines. Like addurl-free is not showing same results like DMOZ. Thanks a lot.

I am not going to point fingers at anyone - but post more of a general concern and disappointment in the way some people carry themselves. After subscribing to this forum, I feel like I have to tread very carefully around the moderators and editors of the DMOZ website for fear of having a website never listed. The more I read, the more I feel like I will be neglected (perhaps even banned) if I ask about the status of a website. That being said. I've read some of the comments and conduct of the editors through portions of this forum and I see signs of abuse. Whether it is verbal abuse in the form of condescension, or abuse in the sense that they 'know' they have …

Directory for the Visually Disabled

As I was working on my site and trying (unsuccessfully) to get it fully compliant with the specifications outlined on Bobby, I could not help but thinking how extrordinarily difficult it was and how few sites out there are really 100% friendly to the blind. I think it would be a huge incentive to alot of people to actually get their sites compliant if they would have a chance of get listed in the DMOZ. Perhaps even a duplicate listing. One in the "regular" directory and one in the visually impaired friendly one. Admission to it could be objectively based on the results of Bobby, and perhaps some visually impaired persons would be interested in reviewing the sites to …

My apologies if this has been asked before, but after noticing a selection of directory sections 'Last Edited' timestamps at the bottom of the page being upwards of 4 months old, what would be considered the average time that it takes for an Editor to make modifications to particular sections? I ask this because the directory I have submitted to, the 'Last Edited' timestamp reads somewhere back in early July - while this is approximately 4 months ago, is this considered 'the norm' and expected time it takes between updates? Or is the Editor of that particular directory section simply not taking the time to make more regular updates, therefore high quality sites loo…

One of the most difficult things in submitting your site to the ODP is deciding which category your site should be listed under. The directory structure isn't always as logical as it could be. Can you suggest a way to find the best category? Let me illustrate with my case: I maintain a website for my personal garden. The site has a number of main thrusts: plant portraits (trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals) seed-starting information wildlife (mostly insect) photography I find that most of my visitors land in my website through search engine searches for specific plants. Since I focus on perennial gardening, I first submitted my site to the gardens/plants/p…

Hi, It was over 6 months ago that I patiently enquired about the status of my submission, I was told to get back in around 6 months. This I have done, only to find that I am no longer allowed access to the information I need, i.e. is my site listed (it appears not to be) and if not why not ? I can quite understand the rationale of discontinuing this feedback in terms of overworked and underpaid editors, but how on earth do we, the apparently rejected and worthless underclass, get our act together, in your terms, unless we know the reasons for our rejection ? I am quite sure that we all try our very best, which is why we probably came to you for verification in…

I decided to come back after another 6 months to check on my site status. Now I see that site status checks are no longer provided. This makes total sense to me, seeing as I spent 4 years trying to get 1 simple website added to this directory, which was a total waste of time. In many ways I am glad you stopped checking. My site was never going to get added anyway (my category editor was AWOL), and now I don't have to bother coming here every 6 months anymore. Thank you very much! Great job!

I have found a Discrepancy in the Directory regarding Harry Potter RPGs. When navigating to Harry Potter RPGs, (Games, Online,Roleplaying,Television and Movies, Harry Potter Series) It takes you to a category called Hogwarts under Harry Potter games, which makes it seem like all Harry Potter RPGs should go in it (from the way I accessed it), yet if you accessed it a different way it would seem that it should only be Hogwarts RPGs. I suggest that all Harry Potter RPGs be condensed into one category, so that people do not get confused as to what should be there. Edit: There is also yet another category titled Harry Potter RPGs that has completly different listings. …

Hi, There is no resident editor in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Singapore/Business_and_Economy/Employment/ and below (Ok, there's one editor in one of the sub cat) and it's a little disorganized down there. I have reported some in http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/showthread.php?p=234651#post234651 Of course i'm hoping that while reviewing my reports, an editor will review my submission in one of the subcat there.

Firstly, my appologies if this is in the wrong forum. I am not enquiring about a site's submission status as such; more a question of ODP policy. I have a client who is a large travel aggregator, whose business model is based upon advertising airline tickets - not selling them. Their website is http://www.cheapflights.com/ As an airline tickets portal, it is the site's/business purpose to help people find good deals on airline tickets by allowing advertisers to post their offers for a fixed fee. I understand that the ODP has strong views on the sites that it choses to list, selecting quality, original websites and rejecting affiliates with little unique conte…

Dmoz - 'Cannot Find Server' when I submit

Hello, I read somewhere that some upgrading is happening on the editors side, but I can't find any confirmation/announcement here at resource-zone (I am not an editor). When I submit, I no longer get the 500, I get 'Cannot find server'. Makes me think something is up... Any confirmation would be great, cause then I'd stop trying to submit every so often (when NA is sleeping, of course..) Regards - masad

Hello, I've been viewing your forum for a while. It seems to me that the DMOZ makes a lot of individuals unhappy! Have you guys ever considered some sort of testing (with the final test scores disclosed) to help you determine editors for the project? In addition, instead of rejecting a web site, why not tell a web master exactly what he or she needs to do to improve to get a listing? Imagine how the internet experience could improve if that was the case. I understand that people get mad when they here negatives about their web site. That is mainly because they have no direction.

We have just launched a new website at Thompson & Morgan and currently Google is using the DMOZ title in its search results. Please see the below for what DMOZ has logged as the title when you type in Thompson & Morgan. We would like the title updated as the current information is incorrect. Please can you advise how we can change this and how long this would take? Incorrect Title: # Thompson and Morgan (Wholesale) Ltd - Wholesale and bulk seeds catalogue for commercial growers worldwide. --<URL rermoved> Regional: Europe: United Kingdom: Business and Economy: Agriculture and Forestry: Horticulture: Seeds () Correct Title: # Thompson and M…

I have heard for years that DMOZ is one of the most respected sites and directories to be included on in order to help make it known about the existence of one's business and web site. I first saw or read this opinion perhaps a half-dozen years ago already, and every now and then (perhaps once a year) I try to resubmit my information when it never shows up in the directory. There have also been one or two times that I tried to contact a supposed editor responsible for my geographic or content area when nothing happened through regular submission channels, and I have never received any response through that means either. Without mentioning website names, my site has…
