I submitted my site abut 7 months ago. It has not been listed as yet. Is there any way I can find out why my site was rejected for listing if it was or why it has not been listed as yet.

Hello, all. New forum member, here. I found a link to ODP from Google guidelines, so I decided to submit my site to ODP, and after I did there was an invitation to become an ODP Editor, so I applied ... all the way to this forum, and this first post. I have been reading forum posts, and it seems that about half of all forum posts are url submission status requests; and half of the other half are Editor application status requests. Hello gentlemen. I manage a website (URL Removed) and have admittedly tried to have it listed on DMOZ a few times with no success. It's an Australian website, based in Australia but there is no category that's really suitable for it. I've placed it under Regional: Oceania: Australia: Business and Economy: Shopping : Consumer Electronics But that didn't get it listed. I don't really think consumer electronics is a suitable category. If a category called Gadgets and Gizmos could be added under Oceania: Australia: Business and Economy: Shopping that would be fantastic. Just realised that one of my sites is removed from dmoz listing for no apparent reason. It has been listed for 2 years and i just don't understand why this is happening? I submitted a request to update my listing recently and now i'm surprised the listing is gone. Can anyone help me out here please? I'll PM my site url if necessary to the right contact person. Just wanted to pop my head in to say thanks to the mods and editors that helped me out when I first joined the forum asking questions. My site has now finally been listed on dmoz, funnily enough not with my description or choice of category so I'm guessing it got picked up by one of the other editors (thank you whoever you are ). The category in which we have been listed focuses on a specialized area which makes up only about a 2% of the whole website. I was wondering if the index of the website could be listed in another category? Anywhoooo, thanks for your time, it's appreciated. W.>

I have a pretty good idea of what it's like to build a gigantic website using volunteers since that's what I've been doing for over a decade, now. So I am sympathetic to the fact that this organization doesn't necessarily get it right all the time. But I am visiting this site for the first time today, having come from here from Alexes. I found that my site description is somewhat out of date. It described our site as offering "dozens" of book for free online reading Now, that would have been accurate in 1996 the day we launched. Hi all, I am only posting this in desperation as I first added my site to the Data Loggers and Recorders category about a year ago. It is still not being listed. I don't see what I have done wrong to be rejected if that is the case. Sorry for being a pain but I didn't think it would take so long. Should I submit it again or sit and wait for there to be editor to review it? It does say in the FAQ's that it can take 2 weeks or longer. 1 year seems a bit extreme to me.. Cheers all Sachie

Hi, The Arabic version of my site has been listed in DMOZ dir almost one month ago. I am an SEO Proffesional who knows DMOZ holds a lot of weight with the search engines and am here to get a higher understanding of how DMOZ works and why this is the case! Hi, When I type a key word for search, the result page comes with Open Directory Categories and Open Directory Sites . What's the difference between them? For example: When I type mannequins for search, it comes up with 5 catogories and 121 sites. The first category is: Business: Retail Trade: Store Fixtures: Mannequins (29 matches) where my site is listed. But I cannot find my site in 121 sites underneath. And also I am not sure about the meaning of 29 matches because under that category there are 40 sites, why only 29 matches? I am so confused - I could see absolutely no reason for my site to be rejected - I submitted it twice i think - once by my webmaster and once by me - b/c I didn't realize he submitted it. But still 2 months later it's not listed How do I know if it's just sitting there in that pil you guys refer to - or if it's been rejected? and if it has been rejected - can I know why - and re-submit? I dont know if this problem is already brought to DMOZ attention. But when I search for websites that are already listed in the DMOZ directory in the DMOZ homepage, it says that no results are not found. www.<url removed> is listed in the directory. But when you search for it in the DMOZ homepage, it shows as no results are found. This is happening to me when I tested with many sites.

I have tried to submit a site several times, and each time I get a message "Please verify the text in the image". I am certain I entered the characters correctly. Certainly the last time there could be no doubt it was correct. I stopped trying in case I was creating multiple submissions. Is there a problem with the verification, or should I just keep trying?
