I have filed a DMOZ complaint last year. The status is still unchanged and nothing happend. The complaint has been ignored/not been read. Is there too many complaints to DMOZ can not process them? Or has the complaint system been disabled or forwarded to a shredder?

I have seen alot of member pages making it to Dmoz and I have found a some that have been deleted. I can understand were this would be extra work for editors as well. And before taking this into account I under took an added a extra feature on my car site called members.bla.bla you know what I mean so a person can have a page at members.blabla.xxx/yournamehere/ This is so people with out web skills sell cars or having car sites can have web pages with out a domain. Hemmings is real big and I know money gets away with alot, and I have seen member pages from hemmings listed in Dmoz as well, and un policed and dead linked by Hemmings only to be replaces the t…

hi all, i wanted to share with you something i know for quite a long time regarding seo and dmoz - dmoz is completely unnecessary for you search engine ranking. dmoz pagerank is down from 9 to 8 and this is only a sign. since dmoz doesn't reflect the majority of the quality websites, i believe that the decision makers in google are beginning to understand that relying on dmoz is not for the benefit of the public. for the last 3 years i have tried to submit my website with no success. i thought to my self that once listed in dmoz, my seo work is complete and no more hard work. this approach is the one that eventually caused me agony. my website compete with sever…

Hi all: I'm curious about how application reviewers got their jobs. Are the reviewers "promoted", in a sense, from the position of a regular category editor? Or are the reviewers only those who originally started this wonderful project? Thanks.

Hi all, Bit baffled by this one and I have just been sitting on it for a couple of weeks to see if the :warning: :warning: would just re-appear again but it looks like its been dropped by Google! Category in DMOZ is currently: http://dmoz.org/World/Deutsch/Freizeit/Reisen/Nach_Aktivit%e4ten/Sprachreisen/Englisch/Malta/ and the category in Google Directory: http://directory.google.com/Top/World/Deutsch/Freizeit/Reisen/Spezialreisen/Sprachreisen/Englisch/Malta/?il=1 As you can see its gone and no longer listed on the Google directory. Are Google filtering Dmoz listings? Has the category been relabelled and/or moved? Does anyone know if I have to r…

It seems that the descirption used to describe my site over at DMOZ.org is showing as the description for my site in the Google. Old description in google has disappeared. Is that normal?

I have joined this forum because I am becoming increasingly aware at the lack of editors and the state in which DMOZ has placed itself. I recently submited a website of my own which was viewed by editors and I am unsure of whether it is being accepted or not, but upon reviewing other websites in the same category/section I realised that my website is by far, a better resource than others. I would like to post the website which is a total failure to the category/section that I submitted my website but I would not like to break the rules of this forum - so upon authorization I will post the website and mine so that the editors of DMOZ can review the site and maybe the…

DMOZ DNS PROBLEM

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but . . . DMOZ is having some real big resolution problems. In most cases your url does not resolve, your dns does not answer or your dns is not propagating it's secondaries. During the past few months public peering has gone to the dogs. Routing issues now plague the net and this is far worse then dying dot.com plague of the past. In committee at the Brookings Institute it was discussed how the big telco's were taking back the net as the smaller telcos decay. The days of "Free" peering are gone and those that don't pay are locked out or experience an inadvertantly transit delay. What happens as the peering is lost, network admins…

Hello All, I am writing to ask the DMOZ guys some questions that I haven't been able to find answers to. I have a website that was very recently removed and I am just wondering; does DMOZ regularly check categories to remove/update websites or does DMOZ have a way of telling when a site has changed DNS, updated or change ownership? Any help would be much appreciated... Regards, Impact

I submitted my site for adding our site to DMOZ earlier, I was recent received a email from a DMOZ editor who claimed he/she also is a meta editor offer to have our site listed in the submited category for a fee of 300 RMB. I am just wondering if the editor legitmated to do under DMOZ social contract? If it is not legitamate, how will the DMOZ deal with such situation? Thanks for help!

Hi all, I just saw this post on getafreelancer.com: http://www.getafreelancer.com/projects/Web-Promotion-SEO/DMOZ-Inclusion-With-Possible-Categories.html Here is a partial quote of the poster of the project: ---------- START --------- We are looking for a guaranteed DMOZ inclusion for our horse-themed classified website with listings of horses for sale (world-wide), horse real estate such as farms and ranches, horse trailers and horse saddles (tack). ..... I am including below all possible categories where the site can be included. You need to include it in *one or all* categories (as many as you can) and quote your rate *PER INCLUSION*. Payment through the es…

Hi Guys, Im new here, I am a member of several other forums and have read a lot of posts about webmasters complaining about DMOZ editors etc. I would just like to share my thoughts and would like to view other peoples thoughts too. In my opinion DMOZ editors should be given some gratitude, after all they are helping the "web community" and manually adding/accepting/rejecting sites within their own time for FREE! So when people moan at them and say lots of bad things about them, keep this in mind. I'm sure I have said some bad things about them myself at some point but I have come to realise what they actually do and im sure they dont want to criticised over so…

Please advise how can I ask DMOZ to fix the bug as well as the way to check why my site is not listed. Thanks The URL: http://www.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/send.cgi?toeditor={some editor name} Error Message: Proxy Error The proxy server received an invalid response from an upstream server. The proxy server could not handle the request POST /cgi-bin/send2.cgi. Reason: Error reading from remote server

Hello, Please visit this link, http://www. shoemoney.com/2007/08/26/dmoz-extortion/ I don't think that any editor can do this kind of practice but if done then can you check that which editor remove the listing or you checked? Thanks

Greetings, It seems that it has been a long time since the Hebrew directory in DMOZ has been updated. There are numerous of important/relevant web sites that have been around for years and yet to be added to the directory. I have tried to post a few of them, but I haven't got any response and it has been over a year since I've sent my suggestions to the directory. I hope anyone in this forum can shed some light on this issue. Ayahuasca.

It seems that ancient and long-silent DMOZ forum threads show up high on lots of Google search results. for instance old threads referring to status checks or other issues concerning domain names show up when you look for the domain name or just the name itself. Is there any way of stopping this? It would be a good idea to stop Googlebots visiting all the DMOZ forums for several reasons, including a) the information that then shows up on Google is doubtless of no use to anyone except the webmaster of a rival company. b) it's old c) though forums are public, they are nothing like as public as a Google search, and there are things that people would not say (confidential …

I am internet newbie. I have a site I submitted. To ME this is an important issue. It seems editors here could care less, I am saddened to read replies by editors with such a cavalier attitude. Editors tell posters to put themselves in surfer's shoes. Editors should try to put themselves in submitter's shoes. I think ODP got too big too quick, and search engines have given too much importance. It would not be hard to have site submitters register, I had yo register to make this post. Submitters could check status of account ( recieved, under review, denied, etc. ) It seems to me that would eliminate need for about 99.9% of post here and free up editors valuable time, a res…
