http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=topix.net Don't understand this Even if it's such a big site isn't 10000 pages a bit to much? That would be like indexing 10.000 pages from wikipedia :icon_ques

...as they claim my site fills a huge gap. Unique content all over (hand written) about a very professional industry topic that any company uses. Some Adsense ads and no affiliate links except 10 supporting Amazon product links (literature supporting the area). Now, submitting for many months I wonder: are ALL my users wrong as ODP editors obviously believe the site is noth worth indexing? Very frustrating indeed!

Could anyone provide information on placing a "sponsored link" on a real estate site that directs users to the real estate listings in dmoz?

do you think DMOZ can be outdated by other emerging directory applying new principles, innovating some other features, etc. Me myself come up with new ideas and create my own directory. My website is http://forum.droppings.spam.spam.spam. I hardly need a feedback if such site could even hit 30% as popular as DMOZ. Thank you very much <post modified to make URL description more accurate>

One site is owned by franchisee of Best Western Hotels. Dmoz have already listed the franchiser's site for this property in Virginia region. If URL of franchisee's website is suggested (which have similar and further more detailed contents), would it be concerned as duplicate? Or is it right to suggest new URL by "Update Listing"? I have mentioned URL's just for your reference only and you may remove them at your Sole discretion. OK. I would be waiting for your opinion.

Questions: a) Anything that is not relevant and outdated on the web should be DEAD right? b) Why is ODP not dead yet ? c) Time spent by editors, where they choose to spend them are decided by themselves right? Why spend time when some categories are dead for years? d) Would it not be better if ODP is changed to something like Wiki?

I did a backlink check and found that I had several links back from sites that display DMOZ directory links. For example, here are some of the listings in Yahoo: <irrelevant stuff removed> It appears that I was listed in DMOZ in the Health/Men's Health/Baldness directory, which is where I applied for my <url removed> site. I have seen a couple cached examples where the site link to my site. Though, when I go to DMOZ I'm not listed in that portion of the directory. Has anyone ever seen where a site has been added and then removed?

Hello all, I live in Czech republic, so my English should have some mistakes, please forgive that. last year I decided to make my first website, I bought at Xmass Eve morning book about "How to" and while the others in whole word were celebrate I sat and coded. For some time I decided to increase position of my site <url removed> in results for keywords, so I browsed long weeks many chats and forums for advises... here my story begins: I suggest my url in many catalogues, but only Dmoz does not send me any confirmation about, not registration, but about recieving my suggestion, up today, I tried mybe twice or tripple to suggest, and it should be the r…

just filed a new patent that involves you guys and now there are stock holders and tons of money involved Ultimately, Google is striving to create the best possible search results for their visitors. This patent proposes one possible method for doing that. For the most part, search engine algorithms have reached their peak. We've known for quite some time that an algorithm-based search engine can nevër permanently deliver excellent results. Why, you might ask. Simply because there will always be people out there trying to reverse-engineer the system. Therefore, a cat and mouse game is created. Out of this problem, a number of solutions have evolved. One of t…

I am looking for a clarification on "submissions of the same or related sites may result in the exclusion and/or deletion of those and all affiliated sites." What constitutes a related site? I thought it was obvious, in that they could not have the same content or the same product. But I think I may be wrong???

Hi, first I want to apologize for my english. I'm not a native english speaker. 1) Somewhere I read that suggesting a site will be stored with a time-stamp, and suggesting the same site again will overwrite the older time-stamp which will just result in a later check of a suggestion. If it's working like this: could someone "simply" suggest a site of his competitor every day to make sure it will never be listed? 2) Editors have to edit (or just login?) in a time period of 4 months to keep their editor status alive. Since some editors are working in several categories I wonder if this works for every single category or in general for every single editor? In other …

I realize it takes a long time for a website to be reviewed and considered for inclusion. I believe I've only been waiting 3 months, so I'm not expecting anything for a while. However, I do have some questions related to my entry... 1. When/if a site is refused admission, do you guys submit a rejection letter or something to that nature? 2. [removed, found my answer] 3. The category I'm attempting to list in has roughly 20 or so entries in it. I applied a while back as an editor for that directory, but was given a rejection letter stating something to the effect that the category was too big for a novice editor. What size category is appropriate for a new…

Hi, I have submitted my (newly designed) site (not asking any time here), but due to technical reasons, i have had to rename the site and replace it back into the hosting where the old site was. Same products, same name (just nameofsite.co.uk instead of (the DMOZ submitted) name-of-site.com. Although hosted with the same company i have a 301 redirect in the .com address pointing to my new location. How can i update my information as my site is not (and i accept, may not be) listed? as your (understandable) guidlines about not accepting redirects will stop my site being listed. Thanks Paul

I was going to ask how come its so hard to get noticed in DMOZ... I submitted the website more then once... I submitted it three times once every month... reading these forums I guess I shouldn't of done this I see that the may concider this a type of SPAM Sorry. I won't submit again. Opinion: I was wondering if sites belonging to Yahoo Groups are ODP worthy. I have a group site that I would like included but, in order to control spamming, I have has to make it a member only site - meaning that most of the content will not be viewable to a ODP editor unless he/she subscribes to the group. Help: I also had a problem submitting my site. I couldn't find a relevant category and ended up submitting to the best I could find (I think it'll be rejected because of this). Later, on DMOZ, I tried searching for sites that were similar to mine and found them, mostly, in another category. Is there any way for me to cancel the add to one category and resubmit to t…

I've had a site up since 2002. I rank high in Google (#1) and Yahoo as well as many of the directories and metacrawlers. But I have never been able to get on dmoz. I submit about once every 6 months, but no luck yet. I would love to know if I'm doing something wrong. Thanks

I am not going to point fingers at anyone - but post more of a general concern and disappointment in the way some people carry themselves. After subscribing to this forum, I feel like I have to tread very carefully around the moderators and editors of the DMOZ website for fear of having a website never listed. The more I read, the more I feel like I will be neglected (perhaps even banned) if I ask about the status of a website. That being said. I've read some of the comments and conduct of the editors through portions of this forum and I see signs of abuse. Whether it is verbal abuse in the form of condescension, or abuse in the sense that they 'know' they have …

Hi All I would like to draw attention to all the site owners about an existing truth. I recently found that in a particular category Home : Cooking, 2 websites are having their entire site listed in all the categories under Home : Cooking. 1> http://www.recipezaar.com/ has 271 pages listed in DMOZ under all the Home : Cooking category 2> http://www.perfectentertaining.com has 50 pages listed Home: Cooking: Beverages Category It is very disappointing to know that some sites have been given undue privilege. Site-owners have been trying hard to get listed in DMOZ. It takes years to get a listing of a home page in any particular category. It should be alarming…

I was going to originally ask a question on my site status but then noticed a thread that ODP editors are no longer checking site status. I have submitted my site a year ago, and it never appeared on ODP. Should I resubmit it? Any suggesstions, is it still taking a long time for a site to be reviewed? Thanks

Hi there, I was wondering if you could point me to where I can find out if there are any editors in the category I have submitted I think two years ago. At the bottom of the category: http://www.dmoz.org/Shopping/Clothing/Ethnic_and_Regional/European/Celtic/Scottish/ it just has the adverts to become an editor. Does this mean there isn't an editor and that I have no chance of ever getting listed. I feel I had to post this as after two years I finally having something on a DMOZ web site :D
