Once upon a time, there was a site that was bad. It was an affiliate farm. But eventually, after finding out he had done something to get his site banned from ODP, the site owner changed his ways and reformed his site. It is now a content site with Adwords only. It has far more content than it does Adwords. But, alas, the site owner could not get anyone to look at his site again because there was a "do not list note" written about it. How can the site owner get an editor to look again and live happily ever after?

Hi, After reading the warning threads about 'please don't ask the status of a submission' I am a little worried about asking this but: "What is the status of my submission?" JUST KIDDING!! But what I am wondering is how long a submission currently takes and whether there is any feedback given if it is rejected, etc. The reason I ask is because I have been trying to get my site added in good faith for about 16 months now. When I initially submitted the site, I didn't receive any feedback and I (rather naively now I realise) re-submitted it about 6 weeks later. A few more months past and I hadn't heard anything so I figured that the editors were probably…

Our site was listed in DMOZ for some time (the site is a little over 3 years old). Approx. six months ago, our site was removed. We believe it was due to a bad link partner(s). As of January 2006, any bad link issue we had, have been resolved. I would like to resolve any outstanding issues that DMOZ may have had with our site, that resulted it in being removed from the directory. Understanding that putting the URL in this post, may be in violation of the forum TOS, I have not mentioned it. It would be very appreciated, if anyone could let me know what steps I need to take in order to start the process of getting our site re-listed in DMOZ. The site contains…

I am in conversation with an editor and he has indicated that he would like to add our site to the appropriate category. He has been saying this for weeks now. Most recently, he indicates there are large scale problems with the administrative interface that do now allow editors to add submissions to DMOZ currently. I simply would like someone to verify whether or not this is true or completely fabricated. Thanks very much.

Hi, I used a company call Traffic Driver to submit my site to dmoz. I was new to the whole website world and to be fair the site was poor. I have since redone my site but Traffic Driver won't tell me what category they submitted to. There is only one category relevant to my site but I have no confidence that Traffic Driver put it in this one. Question. Do I suggest my url to the category I believe to be correct at the risk of it already been submitted by Traffic Driver. They submitted in Sep 2005 and March 2006 but to where I don't know. As you will see I have not attached my url as this is an honest question and not an attempt to speed up an existing submission.…

I noticed recently that http://www.dmoz.org/ doesn't redirect to http://dmoz.org/ anymore, at least not for me. I think the sub directories used to do the same thing but I'm not entirely sure about that. Was that change intentional or some sort of server misconfiguration?

Well I know that RZ has stopped siste status check requests. But what I want to know is why doesnot DMOZ have an automated system that tells about site staus. Like I also know there is no schedule, but an automated tool which can tell about the staus of a site, the number of sites in the category awaiting review would be great for ppl who submitted. And creaing such a script would not be too great a work. I believe this would have been discussed to death here, but I cannot get the idea behind this decision.

Hi everyone Although I can connect to dmoz.org and scroll through the directories and listings as per normal, I just get an error 404 "Cannot find server or DNS error" every time I try a search. Its been like this for two days. The strange thing is that if I diconnect my broadband connection (with fixed IP address) and connect via a dial-up modem with a different IP address, the search works. I'm just wondering if somehow my IP address has come in for some sort of ban. I confess that I've been running a lot of enquiries and web reports this week, but no more so than for many years. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

My site was accepted for listing a few months back - thank you. However, I realized it was not located in the best catagory. I emailed requesting a catagory change and it has since disappeared from your listings. I'm afraid that it was deleted from the incorrect catagory, but never placed in the proper catagory. Is it possible to get help with this? I would rather not go through the resubmission process if I don't need to. The proper catagory should have been (if memory is correct) was Home Inspection located in Florida. The site address is http://www.ableinspector.com Thank you so much for your time on this matter. Just in case ... The question is at the end if you want to skip the verbage. Following replies to various posts in this forum (whilst I was on a learning curve - for which I'm grateful), input from more experienced website owners, various SEO forums and (blimey, something radical) visitors to my site and customers, I've made lots of changes, added new content, new pages, improved the links and resources available to visitors and generally improved the site. Doing well in traffic and Google's PR has gone up to 5 on some of my pages. Generally wiser and happier. But, question - given the extent of the changes and site not listed, should I resubmit? Assuming not b…

Hi, I have a site that has been in Dmoz for a few years now. Since submission and listing, my site has grow and now the catagory it is listed in does not seem relevant to the site. My questions? 1. Can I change the catagory of my website, if so how? 2. Can I change the description of my website? Thank you for your help in advance. Matt

While I'm in ODP learning mode, I just have to ask, have any of the Editors ever been offered (and of course declined) a bribe and, if so, are they willing to reveal how much it was for, or what was offered? Obviously without any specifics... And no, I'm not trying to work out where to set my pitch at. I'm too much of a tight-fisted old swine.

I don't beleve more that my site http:http://www.rentit.it will include in the ODP. It is more than one year that I am waiting for. I saw FAQ, I checked everything many times and I am sure that the site has all charatteristics to be included. I understand that editors has a lot of work, but 1 year ....it is not serios. I am REALY deluse. Tati

As previously mentioned we have put a lot of time and effort into redesigning our site. WhichPoker.com aggregates statistics from the world’s leading online poker rooms. Several times every hour our technology gathers detailed activity information. This enables us to provide the very latest free poker statistics along with the ability to search for up to the minute details of the latest poker games and tournaments available. This gives us a unique view onto the online poker world and enables us to provide free and very powerful online poker tools. Should we re submit our stats section or our main site. Regards Graham

While our site is recently listed in at least one category that I know of, if I search for the domain or site name from http://dmoz.org, it is not found. Is that by design or does it take some time for the search scheme to catch up with the rdf, assuming that they are separate?

Hi guys, I have some concerns about the submission of my site and the delay in response. I have submitted a number of times over the last 12 months, and whilst I do understand that the editors may have numerous sites to review and approve, I have a concern that either my site has not been accepted or the submissions have not been received. Either way, I am yet to receive any form of response indicating that my submission has been unsuccesful or that it is still pending review. For those interested the site may be viewed here - http://www .egaragesales.com.au. I am also concerned as I am the newly appointed owner as of 12 months ago as I purchased the site outright …

Why aren’t more editors approved? Are editors really that difficult to find? The back log of web sites seems to be a burden that could be alleviated by approving more editors and allowing quality control to oversee their induction into the system.

How do you deal with someone that is posting everywhere I submit to in directories? He insists on bashing my site. Telling others not to visit mine, but to visit his. Sometimes he signs his name and brags about it, sometimes he just signs his site's name. I have been successful enough to get the sites to erase many of the comments and links, but not all. My site is lawncafe. com and his is lawnsite. com. Here is a sample of what is happening: http:/ /garden.org/boards/index.php?q=view&id=11947&board=18 http:/ /www.forumfox.com/Home/Gardening/382/LawnCafe_Lawn_Care_Service_Forums_powered_by_vBulletin/Comments/ These are the two I could find for now. In this world of Google, where one could be forgiven for believing that Google is the be-all and end-all of search, I wonder... Has the external submission rate for ODP increased, decreased, or remained at a steady rate over, say, the past three years? I would imagine it's done down, but I'm just curious whether people are still seeing DMOZ as an important arena in which to position themselves?

Hi, I seem to be having trouble getting a listing updated, from: Category: Computers: Programming: Languages: PHP: Scripts: Forums: Invision Power Board Site Name: StudioX Designs URL: http://www.studiox-designs.org to: Category: Computers: Programming: Languages: PHP: Scripts: Forums: Invision Power Board Site Name: InvisionCube URL: http://www.invisioncube.com/ I submitted the update request quite some time ago. (Sorry, memory fails after a sleep in us oldies, don't you know, but we're talking several weeks here I'm sure.) Is there anything else I can do, so that I can close our old site down completely and remove the redirect? Ma…
