Who would i contact about getting mozdex.com listed in one of the search engines to search from dmoz using? I see altavista, and other engines that now use yahoo indexes are still there. It would be nice to link to our open source search engine afterall we named ourselves after the mozilla projects! hehe thanks, -byron

I did a backlink check and found that I had several links back from sites that display DMOZ directory links. For example, here are some of the listings in Yahoo: <irrelevant stuff removed> It appears that I was listed in DMOZ in the Health/Men's Health/Baldness directory, which is where I applied for my <url removed> site. I have seen a couple cached examples where the site link to my site. Though, when I go to DMOZ I'm not listed in that portion of the directory. Has anyone ever seen where a site has been added and then removed?

Hello, I was wondering if someone could help me. I wish to submit my site into a category that isn't listed but apparently this can be changed. Top: Shopping: Antiques and Collectibles: Figurines How does one get 'animals' placed under the 'figurines' umbrella. My site is selling animal figurines. Cheers Dean

Hi all, I just want to be absolutely positive about this one. I am translating a dutch site (www.tijskookt.nl ) to be in english aswell. I believe to have read that i may now add the site to the (correct) english category too. I have already submitted this site to the dutch category World/Nederlands/.../Catering/. So is this true? Or is it only allowed once in the project? Regards, Plyon.

I have had several requests to add espanol to my site, so yesterday I started duplicating static pages and renaming the translated pages to things like "support.es.html" "contact.es.html" and so on. I am about to duplicate and translate the hole main body of the site over the next few days. So people will be able choose the Espanol or English, a large part of the market is from Texas, Southern California, New York and Southern Florida. I know this will aid to my sites traffic as far as user use-ability. I was also going to convert the keywords, and description to Espanol as well for those pages. Can doing this have a negative impact on my sites list-ablity wi…

I realize that when you submit a URL to an ODP category, then it gets added by an editor with rights for that category. Is that true for removing entries? Is this the correct forum for reporting bad URLs? What constitutes a dead link? Does it have to be a "404 Not Found"? What if it's a live site that returns a "200 OK" but the webpage states "Out of business. Sorry!"

I was rejected last year as editor of the http://dmoz.org/Recreation/Collecting/Slot_Machines/ category. This category currently contains 7 English and 3 Swedish language links, one of which contains a picture of three sunbathers on a yacht - and nothing else! There was also a dead link which I reported and has now been removed. The most active and information rich sites are not listed, presumably because the category has not been edited for the last four or five years. For anyone interested in collecting vintage slot machines, it's a pretty weak resource. My own site about vintage British slot machines (not listed at dmoz) contains links to over 36 sites, divided i…

Does anyone know if too many Google Adsense ads in your sites will prevent it from getting listed? I have two sites with plenty of (what I consider) helpful information that I have been trying to get listed for a while, <URLs removed> is it a lost cause because of the Adsense?

I have a high quality content site with articles I have personally written, and use AdSense banners to support it and basically pay the hosting. Do DMOZ editors "look down" on adsense or affiliate ads in general? Clearly, if a site is nothing but a banner farm with pop-ups flying all over the place, you would do well and be right to reject it. But how about the sensible use of something like Adsense? I would appreciate some general comments on this topic.

Hello all, I posted in the site status forum about 6 months ago and I would like to go back and see if there is an update on when / if my site will be listed but I can't find it. It looks like the site submission forum got too big and has been split up so maybe that's the reason. Last time I looked I searched for my user name and my post came up... this time I've tried that in all the sub-forums and no go. What do I do now? Thank you for your time, Frances http://www.shojidesigns.com

Hi, Our company is Resistance Wires Ltd, I am submitting our companies website http://www.resistance-wire.co.uk into the following category... http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Industries/Manufacturing/Cable_and_Wire/ Do I appear to be submitting into the right category? If so how can I get our website reviewed for inclusion? What happens if there is no editor for that category or the higher categories? Who is reviewing the sites? Any advice appreciated!

We have been battling an issue for a few months now with certain editors; in the process, we believe we might have left a bad impression. As oppose to trying to explain what happen, I would like to focus on what must be done for our site to be re-listed. What steps must we take to demostrate to Dmoz that any previous actions we performed that went against the guidelines, were totallly unintentional?

This is not a status request!! I need some advise please. I submitted my website www.whitedogbikes.com to the catagory dmoz.org/Shopping/Vehicles/Motorcycles/Parts_and_Accessories/ ages ago. After reading some dodgy information about submitting, I kept resubmitting the site (about 4 or 5 times), however, I was shown the error of my ways when I asked for a status report on 11th Jan 2005 & have not resubmitted the site since (ah well, ya live & learn!) I have since encountered 2 problems & would like advise on the best course of action. 1) I think I submitted my site with the url whitedogbikes.com , due to a technical fault, this url has been producin…

Hi, I have a website that I had submitted for review. In it I sell products online. I also have a link from my homepage to articles about helping kids to read, steps to successful reading etc. On those pages, beside the articles, I have recommended some books from amazon.com via affiliate program. I know DMOZ doesn't like sites based on affiliate programs. But what if the affiliate links were supplementary, would it be basis for rejection? Thanks.

How does the excessive affiliate link rule work? I work for a large comparison shopping site (guess?) that has a great deal of trouble being included in the appropriate category on the ODP. I've been working to change this for six months and the company has been around since 1996. Home > Consumer Information > Price Comparisons This category seems to make the most sense, but we have several listings/links in less relevant categories. 1) Shopping > Publications > Books > Directories 2) Home > Consumer Information > Computers and Internet > Hardware > Printers I'm most concerned with getting into a category that makes sense b…

Affiliate Links on a content site

In one of the forums I visit, there was a small discussion about DMOZ and affiliate programs. Though the original post was about getting an affiliate site listed in DMOZ, lots of other interesting comments came up regarding submission of a CONTENT site with lots of affiliate links. A sample - "there are quite a lot of DMOZ editors who frown upon webmasters who try to make money from their websites". "only after DMOZ listed the site that I added affiliate links to my content site". Is that true? Do you fellows reject a site if a content site has lots of affiliate links? Ashwin
