Hi DMOZ, I have a website that had listed in DMOZ for about over a year, then one company decided to rent my website for their purpose without changing my website, (the only major change was to put their logo and contact info ). I still own and operate the website, own the copyright all the pictures and text etc. Now The ODP editor has seen this change and decided to change my URL and put the company's URL that has only one landing page and link to my website. (which I don't even think that can be considered as a website) I have tried to contact to editor a few times however he ignored my change request. I don't want to bother him anymore I can provide the website inf…

Our compnay name and it;s URL has changed due to legal reason and the old URL is turned over to a new company. And the old URL is listed in DMOZ. How does the old URL get changed to the new one? I have submitted an "Update Listing" request and explained the change and reasoning over 3 weeks ago but have not seen any change or even received an acknowledgement that my request has been read or received. The old URL is still active but only has a notice on it explaining the change and the new URL. Nothing else on the site has changed other than the URL. Any help in updating this soon to be dead URL is appreciated. The old URL is Globalsourcesusa.com and is liste…

Question 1 Does the submission rule that states "Do not submit any site with an address that redirects to another address" include domain names that redirect to home pages? Not for the intent to hide the actual address. Just for the purpose of having an address that is easier to remember. Question 2 I have one site at present that sells a product in bulk to a specific group of businesses. However, I plan to have a second site that sells the same product but in small quantities to individuals. The two sites would look very much alike and belong in the same category, but in different sub/categories. Would this be considered mirroring?

How many sites are needed for a surname to have its own sub-category in Personal Homepages? For instance, looking at Society: People: Personal Homepages: W, I observe that the Wongs got their own category, which, with 70 sites, is fair enough. But the Wiggins achieved it with only 3 sites; the Wyss with 2; the Whitts with 1; and most impressively, the Weiners, Warrs; and the Wiltshires with none at all. How many does it need? Or is it determined by the average quality of the sites (explaining the divide-by-zero cases)? (The motivation for this question can be guessed from another thread.)

I just wanted to note that I think it is great that the ODP has launched a forum like this, for a long time it seemed as if the ODP was about to croak, or at least enter into a marginal state. Creating a forum which reflects the life of the community was a great idea. Kudos. David.

I suspect this question will only resonate in people who go out of their way to act as gatekeepers. While fully understanding and acknowledging that the ODP is a catalog (directory) of websites and has no allegiance to any one webmaster, wouldn\'t it be more productive if less time was spent on actually placing sites than on the politics of getting sites placed. So many questions and, indeed, former forum sections have been devoted to discussing the ephemera about whether sites should be included or not. Too often some editors will go to great lengths to write treatises on why a site has not been reviewed after years , what ODP policy is, why it takes so long to get…

Ok, I have waited for long time, and started to wonder if my submission is still in the queue. Is it possible to make the project more transparent to us so that we know our submission is there and whether there is an eidtor visited the the part of project where I submitted my site?

The first time I came across DMOZ I submitted my url after glancing briefly at their submission guidelines, and after hearing nothing for a few weeks, I re-submitted. After a month or so without hearing anything again I submitted it once more. Then I read more deeply the submission guidlines and realised that they said on no account to keep re-submitting the same url. Does this mean I won't ever get listed because I inadvertenlty, albeit foolishy broke their guidelines. Or should I wait six months or so and re-submit.

Simple question. I was under the impression that a site should only be listed once in DMOZ, did I misunderstand?

Hello editors this one's for you! As a 'frustrated' webmaster I have joined this forum in an effort to understand more how the ODP works and what to expect in terms of my website being listed in the ODP. As with many other 'frustrated suggestors' I have made a huge investment in my site ensuring that the content provided is hopefully 'unique' and informative. My site is a commercial site which exists in a market dominated by larger organisations. I suggested my site back in June 2005 and have suggested it several times since, all the time improving the content. I still however receive no feedback with regard to its status in any shape or form. I've read numerous …

I used to achieve decent results [ranking] with dmoz for two websites I've designed. I submitted to a few categories for each site maybe once a month. These categories were honest and accurate. All of a sudden, the websites aren't listed on dmoz, but worse, I can't even browse the entire domain. Is my ISP or IP address blocked? I'm a website designer, I don't do email blasts, and only do infrequent SEO for two customers. Please help... Bob

Every time I visit, it's the same argument in different forms, over and over again. People want feedback on submissions - suggestions (whatever you want to call them) and the ODP is unwilling to do so. Indeed, I suspect that Netscape wants to limit email communications between editors and submitters - suggesters. I have a couple of suggestions: 1. Edit the docs and clearly explain the policy. Moreover, the current submission "FAQ" suggests something like "three weeks, maybe more." The Editor guidelines SEEM to suggest that a spammer should receive a notification - either by the editor or staff. I don't think that's correct. BTW, I cannot find it but somewhere there is …

I know it's not possible to check on the status of site submissions per say but I was wondering if it was possible to know when to assume the answer has been no? Maybe x weeks after submission, if you haven't heard - or something like that. I submitted my site some weeks ago and have heard nothing, nor can I find my site in the ODP search. I do not know if I did the right thing - probably not - but I resubmitted today and was wondring how long it might take for a decision. Any help or advice is welcome.

I notice that in Health: Conditions and Diseases: Eye Disorders: Retina there is no category for the retinal disease Leber's Congenital Amaurosis (LCA). I also notice that a search for the keyphrase Leber's Congenital Amaurosis brings up zero results. My question: How do I suggest a new Leber's Congenital Amaurosis category? And, how can I volunteer to edit this new category? Thanks, Amber Bobnar

I am just curious what the longest someone has waited with success of being registered. I understand I have no control, but I am a pretty simple regional category and I have not been accepted. My submission was moved to a new category for review in December of 2004. Am I doing the right thing by continuing to wait? I hope so; I look forward to being listed. Respectfully, Justin

The category that we submitted our sites has this footer: "Last update: 14:24 PT, Wednesday, March 15, 2006 " (http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/India/Business_and_Economy/Employment/Directories/) Does this mean, most of the sites listed in this category has been approved or declined?. Because we submitted our site (clickjobs.com) on sep 2005 and still wating for an entry. Thanks., sarathy.s

Ok this may seem rude to all the honest editors out there, but it seems to me that DMOZ editing is just a scam and has become a "click" where friends helpfriends. Reason i say this is this category : [deleted] All the sites listed here are owned by the one and same owner, you know, actually my listed sites was REMOVED ! And for no good reason, my listed sites provide much more content for the users compared to those sites listed there, they are only sites for search engines Is it anywhere i can report this behaviour ?

I just applied for a category and saw that one of my suggestions was added right away. Application status aside, the description for this site was changed to something that I believe is incorrect, but mentioned on the website, as in 'central location', when it is in fact nowhere near the city center (clearly defined) just wondering whether and if I should say something - and if so, how? cheers Michael
