I have a web site with roughly 600 pages of my own content, all created by me, all closely related, all of high quality, and all useful in it's own niche. None of it has ever been spammed anywhere, ever, and I have taken great care to write a complete, impartial, and concise description, even going so far as to take it to a professor at my university to get it to be as professional and objective as possible. It complies completely with the submission guidelines, not even any that have to be applied loosely, even though I disagree with many of your guidelines. It does not distribute spyware, has very few, limited advertisements that not even everybody sees, and I have take…

The first necessity in effective teaching is to be able to create a classroom where every student has physical, emotional, and academic safety. This process is called Classroom Management. Often neglected in a teachers academic training, it is the first and most difficult hurdle faced by every first year teacher. Folks, where is the category? Where are the sites? A search of dmoz turns up only 5 results all in different categories. As a teacher of inner city high school students for 6 years I can testify to the necessity of running a safe and interesting classroom. How do I get a category for "Classroom Management" created under Education or some sub-category…

Hi everybody! I've determined to make use of some web service to manage my beta stage and beta testers better. There's a lot of them on the web. I was wondering maybe someone already has used some of them and can assist me in making a choice. Appreciate your replies

Hello, I have just submitted a website to the category: Arts -> Music -> Bands_and_Artists -> R -> Rhianna The category name should be Rihanna and not Rhianna. Cheers

I updated the URL for a veterinarian site, (thanks to the editors for updating!) My question is, when I do a search, the listing still reflects the old domain under Open Directory Sites but when clicking the Category, the new domain is there. I waited until the search database showed that it had been updated, but the listing still reflects the old domain. Does this ever change or will it show the old domain URL listed under OD Sites forever? The main reason for concern is that the person who took over the old domain is faking our business, but using the names and design of another Dr's website who we have been in contact with. As far as we can see, they are on…

My site has had a DMOZ listing for a number of years. We have recently changing the focus of the site and I requested for our DMOZ listing details to be updated to reflect this, and the category changed, in the normal way. Today I see our listing has totally been removed. Can anyone please tell me why. We have also redirected to a new domain at Thanks for any help or advice

I found post in DP forum where guy was bragging about how easy one can be listed in DMOZ if he knows what need to be done. He even posted link to his site, probably to make his point, so I went to see what chunk of diamond he has and…. my first impression was, it must be some kind of freaking jock and guy just spammed DP to promote his article because DMOZ will never include site like that even if AOL owner owned that site. Let me describe to you what I saw. 7 pages including Index, About, Submit, Contact, Privacy and Terms pages and of course the one that tells you how-to screw DMOZ article. Now, because that site supposes to be some kind of web directory, his Index …

I've been wondering about this for a while. My site is listed in this section: http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/Canada/Ontario/Localities/O/Oshawa/Business_and_Economy/ But if you do a normal search in DMOZ for my business name or domain name, neither show up. Why is that? Does this mean that the search function DMOZ uses is not yet finished spidering itself? Is the category too deep? Is the category set as noindex nofollow in some robots.txt or htaccess file? Is the search function offered by some 3rd party, like Google? I can see G hasn't cached that page since Dec 27th. Very strange. Can someone shed some light here? Merci,

Hi, I hope someone can help. I have a couple of different websites, all good quality, unique content, established 5 - 10 years old and have been listed in DMOZ for as long as I can remember. I've now noticed that they have all been removed from the directory and I'm just after feedback as to why? I read through the DMOZ guidelines again and my sites do still meet the criteria, they've not been offline etc. so I'm a bit stumped! DMOZ suggest contacting the editor of the category which I have done and he suggested I post here. If I'm allowed to post my website address then one of them is; <url removed> Any help you can give will be greatly appreciated. …

Please let me know how I may contact the legal department for DMOZ. We need this to resolve a misleading and potentially damaging entry that your volunteers are either unwilling or unable to update or remove. Removal would resolve this issue immediately. What a ridiculous system.

Hello: DMOZ has one of my websites listed, but with completely wrong and possibly damaging cross information. I would either like it either corrected or pulled out of the directory entirely. Unable to find any other corrective measure, I just completed the application to become an editor, but was quickly turned down because I run other sites that might be related to the category so was immediately tried and convicted of "self promotion". I actually run over 70 sites, but do not prefer to have my own sites listed on DMOZ and use the NOODP directive on all my sites. Please advise on how my listing can be either corrected or removed entirely. :icon_excl

I have a simple yet what seems to have turned out to be a complicated problem that I need to get resolved as soon as possible. My URL is listed in the dmoz directory under 2 names and 2 categories. One is correct and the other is incorrect. My URL is <URL1> This is the correct listing and category... Kats Designs - Designers and manufacturers specializing in custom rhythmic suits, competition leotards and costumes. --<URL1> Business: Consumer Goods and Services: Clothing: Sports (1) This is the INCORRECT listing... Big Star Sandy - Canada. Manufactures gymnastic exercise apparel and accessories, crafted using high quality materials with …

Here I would like to place the comparison of DMOZ listings which is totally not sensible for me because they listed the websites 680085 only from North America which is the 16.30% of world. Are the North American websites are only quality, unique contented, decriptive information and exact titled? No this is 100% minoply. Continent DMOZ Listings Continent Area Africa 17669 Africa 20.30% Asia+Middle East 60342 Asia+Middle East 30.00% Europe 293075 Europe 6.70% North America 680085 North Amer…

The description from your site, being generated in search engines when our organization (“Order Sons of Italy in America” or “OSIA”) is typed in, is incorrect and contains erroneous information. Presently, it says: "(OSIA) National site for this fraternal order for Italian-American men. Membership information, local lodges, history, contact information, and programs." OSIA is not predominantly a fraternal organization, and it is 50/50 men and women. Our homepage has been updated with a meta tag, so please correct your site with the description generated from the following: <url removed> I have tried on numerous occasions to fix this, so any help would …

Hi DMOZ volunteers, I thought my site was not listed in DMOZ but after i waited a couple of years and try to apply again i was told by the form that my site already existed (to my surprise) YEAH!!!!!!!! Here is my question: What i am confused about is why my site shows up in one DMOZ directory and not another? :icon_ques Here is an example of the two different directory links: We are listed here: http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/AudioVisual/Equipment/Audience_Response_Systems/ and not here: http://www.google.com/Top/Business/Business_Services/AudioVisual/Equipment/Audience_Response_Systems/ If i try to update the google one it ta…

I updated my listing just over 2 weeks ago now and it got approved and changed, yet the listing still doesn't come up when you search directly for it on dmoz or on google directory. How long does that part of the process usually take? Thank you in advance for any insight

this time not a website. First of all, I apologize if I posted this topic in a wrong section. I am pretty sure the moderators will help moving it to the appropriate section as they all seem to be here. This concept of ODP is wonderful but I see some deficiencies. As my name suggests I am highly caffeinated. I need to gather my points. 1. We all know ODP editors are volunteers. Good for them. They are doing marvelous job when they are editing. The reason why I said when they are editing is, when I browsed this forum I read many; I am the tough guy, you are not paying me anything...so shut up attitude. Yes, I would be irritated if my wife yells at me when I am tryi…

I just submitted a site to 'Business/Consumer_Goods_and_Services/Jewelry/Wholesale_and_Distribution/'. In the page of submitting form, another category 'Shopping/Jewelry/' was also suggested to me. The description of '/Jewelry/Wholesale_and_Distribution' is: Companies who sell jewelry, jewelry components, loose gemstones, watches and/or jeweler's supplies to retail establishments, re-sellers, jewelers and designers. And the one of 'Shopping/Jewelry/' is: If you sell directly to the general public from your website you must submit to one of the Shopping/Jewelry/ categories. The site i sugguested is a site of a jewelry company doing wholesale trading. Our targe…

Hi DMoz & All Readers, I have been trying on behalf of my company to update our listing on DMoz. I have applied to update this listing on several occasions and still the listing is not updated. Our current listing is: <specific details removed per forum ToS> Please could somebody contact me regarding this issue as we would like to get this listing updated as soon as possible, Thanks in advance, Mark

I have submitted a new description for the company I work for and it has been reflected in your directory but when I go to the quantcast profile the old description is still there. The old description was quite vague and general, my description was much cleaner, hence it was accepted and I appreciate that... when will the quantcast DMOZ description change? Does this take the action of quantcast to actually crawl DMOZ for the new information? can it be submitted to quantcast or is it just a waiting period? Thank you for your help in advance. I feel I will see the "you need do nothing" reply, lol
