I do, though only when referring to what I am professional at, i.e. helping clients rent a perfect holiday property in France through my website. However, I am not a professional of web-initials including SEO, DMOZ, CPT, CPM, PR etc. As a self-confessed amateur at all of this, do I pay one of the many thousands of so-called 'professionals' upfront to get people to visit my website - which no-one can guarantee!! - or do I try and work it our for myself? Well, as I am reasonably intelligent and a keen DIY-er at home, I thought I'd look into DIY directory registration and general DIY SEO. I keep coming across individuals & companies who tell me I am crazy to try…

Calling for a Chinese column in this forum

As there are French and Spanish column as well as Danish one, I wonder if we could establish two more columns here in Chinese, one in simplified Chinese and the other in traditional one. I'm available at: carlyibin@hotmail.com (used as an MSN messenger) As there have been definitely a large amount of websites in Chinese, a Chinese column is increasingly needed to dealing with issues on submission. And I'm sure that both other Chinese guys and I are fully ready to help you with it if necessary.

Hi, The company I work for already has a listing in DMOZ (which needs updating), however we were recently acquired and have taken on new products and services which clearly apply to more than one category. Is it possible to be listed in more than one category? I haven't been able to find anything on the DMOZ site that says anything about this... Thanks

Can an ODP Listing Trigger a Google Filter?

I am concerned that listing some sites in ODP may trigger a filter that prevents those sites from appearing in many popular Google search results. If my concerns prove to be borne out, then ODP may be on a collision course with Google. Specifically, if my concerns are borne out, many site owners may request that their sites be removed from ODP, and ODP editors may be obliged to ask the informed consent of site owners before listing their sites. I sincerely hope that my concerns prove to be groundless. Would you please explore the issue so it can be ruled in or out as a real problem. I thought it best to raise my concerns here, rather than go to some webmaster / SEO fo…

I was wondering if it is possible to change the name of a category. The category in question is called "dentophobia" (health>mental health>disorders>anxiety>phobias>dentophobia; see also Health>dentistry>dentophobia). The problem is that nobody actually uses this term (apart from a handful of sites and dmoz). It is generally referred to as "dental phobia" (to give you some idea, typing "dental phobia" into google gives about 33,700 results (or 12,100 when used in parentheses), whereas "dentophobia" yields only 1910 hits (most of which are directories using dmoz results). Is it possible for the category name to be changed? I've repeatedly tried to e…

Hi, I was wondering if different pages on the same website can be submitted for consideration in separate categories. My website http://www.endangerous.com is appropriate for the Printed T-shirt category, and I have another page http://www.endangerous.com/pcords.html that would be appropriate for the Sporting Goods: Skydiving category. If I were to submit these two pages to their respective categories, would it be considered spamming since they are on the same website? (Of course I'd be grateful if either one were included...I'm not trying to be greedy:o ) Thanks! Neil

do you think DMOZ can be outdated by other emerging directory applying new principles, innovating some other features, etc. Me myself come up with new ideas and create my own directory. My website is http://forum.droppings.spam.spam.spam. I hardly need a feedback if such site could even hit 30% as popular as DMOZ. Thank you very much <post modified to make URL description more accurate>

One thing I don’t understand, or rather cannot agree with. I will repeat somebody else’s words by saying that this service is run by volunteers, which should mean that those are the people who are enthusiastic about what they do. Majority of the editors are and demonstrate enthusiasm and responsibility. Others seem to be just receiving some sort of an ego boost from the status of being an editor and neglect the work itself, or just have lost the interest at some point. Considering high requirements for becoming an editor, I would assume that ODP has a large number of applicants to choose from. Why not impose an activity requirement of some sort? There are editors wh…

I was so relieved today to see that my client's web site is listed in DMOZ. Yahoo! What I did notice though is the title for the link and the description leaves a little to be desired. Can this be changed? Is it an ardous task to do so. They are listed as this: Tasty Tuscany - Cookery, wine tasting and art courses held close to Pisa. What's offered, photographs, background, pricing and guestbook. I'd like them to be listed at this: Tuscany Cooking School - Italian Cooking School in the heart of Tuscany Italy offering cooking classes in a Tuscan Farmhouse Villa. I think you would agree this latter is far more appropriate, no? PS Also, as a registered user o…

I think if the editors cannot help from this zone, It should be stopped. Becoz 99% peopel are dissatisfy from the answers. If it is not useful and cannot resolve the problems, So it should be stopped. I really dont know, what is the basic purpose of the this zone, If editors have the same answer, Dont Send Private Messages, We Cannot Tell The Status, So why we are here to putting the questions and waiting for a soluble answer? Sorry, to those who feel bad.... Kashif

Can I change my current username to my real name? It was my mistake that I thought declaring all of my professional existence will clear up the transparency, and I could learn here through queries without hiding my profession. But somehow I feel it was not necessary to register my username by my profession. So I want to stop using this username and come back to the forum with my real name as in username. I am looking for the kind response of the Forum Admins. Regards-

Sorry if this was asked before, is so I couldn't find it. I need to know whether there is a way to find when an entry was added. Reason for this is that I found a double listed entry and I suspect an abuse of the editor of one categories the entry is listed in. So, it'd be relevant which entry was added first. Many thanks

Hi All I would like to draw attention to all the site owners about an existing truth. I recently found that in a particular category Home : Cooking, 2 websites are having their entire site listed in all the categories under Home : Cooking. 1> http://www.recipezaar.com/ has 271 pages listed in DMOZ under all the Home : Cooking category 2> http://www.perfectentertaining.com has 50 pages listed Home: Cooking: Beverages Category It is very disappointing to know that some sites have been given undue privilege. Site-owners have been trying hard to get listed in DMOZ. It takes years to get a listing of a home page in any particular category. It should be alarming…

I submitted a listing under the URL http://www.espritpublications.ca on Oct. 14/04 into the category, Arts:Online Writing:Non-fiction. Since then there are some changes I would like to make to the title and description. It has not been listed yet (I am aware that it takes time and am not questioning that). I wish to know if there is a way to send an updated title and description before the original Oct 14th submission potentially gets accepted and added to this category? (Also the above URL is currently listed under a different category, Science:Social Sciences:Psychology:Psychoanalytic and Psychodynamic:Training and Academic Programs. As our scope changed I asked for it…

Yesterday, I wrongly submitted my Film new website <removed URL> and I did not read the guideline properly where it say 'Submit the Final website' My website aims to re-define all Film blogs, by not constantly writing Cinema reviews but instead creating new content like Editorials, Artwork and Videos. The website is to be the starting point of an International Brand that promotes excellence in Cinema. Looking to the future. BUT the website is NOT Complete. Could the Editors of Arts: Movies: News and Media NOT review my submission and just delete my submission. As my website is not complete yet and I know I will be rejected as I have only 6 articles, 2 Edito…

I am the webmaster for various sites I have created for various people, none relating to the other. I would like to submit (attempt to submit) all the sites to the ODP in the appropriate categories. I am aware that only some if any may be listed, if excepted, but would I be breaking any guidlines of the ODP if I were to list more than one domain (none are mirror sites, all are unique)? I read through the guidelines and saw that mirrors sites (basically same sites, different domain names, or sites of similar nature) are a no no, but nothing on what I'm requesting. Thank you in advance Lara
