Simple: suggest the site to the right category. I've been doing some statistical analysis of the suggested sites that get listed in ODP/DMOZ/Curlie, and reached these conclusions: Sites that are submitted to the "right category" (meaning the category where they ultimately get listed) get listed four times faster than those submitted to other categories. Only 31% of the submissions that get listed are suggested to the "right category". Important note: the results above apply only to those sites that eventually get listed. It is not necessarily related with the likelyhood of a site getting listed. Also, they are the average for the whole directory; the exact resu…

I wish to have links to my websites removed from all dmoz.org directories. I cannot find information anywhere which describes how I can arrange for this to be done. In particular, I would like links to my page jagular com/beowulf/ removed from the page at https://dmoztools.net/Arts/Literature/World_Literature/British/Medieval/Beowulf/ I requested this in January, 2002 by writing to an editor named Thomas Noronha, and he very politely complied, but someone put it back. There no longer seems to be an editor for that directory, and there is no indication at dmoz.org of who I should contact when there is no editor. I have searched through all of the help pages and…

It has been over a month since I contacted you last, asking what could be done to improve my site so that it can be properly considered for the Gambling Category at DMOZ. I also pointed out to you at least two sites which are essentially shills for their own casinos, and even run popups off of their sites. In about 14 days, I will be speaking at the Casino Affiliate Conference ( http://www.casinoaffiliateconference.com ) at which I am supposed to be speaking about Asia - but likely will change topics to speak about the do's, dont's, and other peculiarities of search engines, pay-per-click and directories such as DMOZ. As it stands right now, the only possible opini…

HI I have been trying to submit URL to Dmoz. After finding the relevant category and going to submit URL, the page returned claims that page required cannot be found and it throws me out of IE. I have deleted all cookies in case it could be something to do with this, but his hasn't helped.

The threads in this forum are NOT for enquiring about submission status. As of May 21, 2005, we do not provide submission status checks in any of the forums at Resource-Zone. Please see the announcement about this. Threads about submission status are usually locked or removed by the moderators! Thank you. Please could people posting to this board briefly consider the following before posting new threads. Please try to be slightly more descriptive when typing a title for a new thread. I find titles like 'Submission' and 'Help' aren't particularly useful. They don't give any indication of what the real issue is about, or what part of the directory the issue might relate to. Many editors have specific interests in certain branches of ODP, and may in certain circumstances be able to give a more complete answer than others. Not everyone has enough time to read every thread 'just in case'. 'Why not listed under Elbonia?' is more likely to be seen and read by an Elbonian edito…

"Not a valid IP address pattern" has appeared every time for several months, whenever I suggest a site for submission. What does this mean, please? I have tried submitting from several different locations and get the same response, to what otherwise seems to be a compliant to to the rules submission. And the site I am trying to submit is a normal www . com address. I have tried the search function in this section for this, btw, but nothing came up. Thank you.

Hello, I am hoping that a meta editor can let me know if my site is now acceptable. I have studied ODP submission guidelines very closely--over and over again for the last 2 years--and have done my best to bring my site into complete compliance. However, to this day, I still have no idea as to exactly why my site was originally deemed unacceptable. I would truly appreciate some feedback concerning my updated site. Thank you, Sarah http://www.essaytown.com

Greetings, I am writing to bring to everyone’s attention my recent efforts to get listed in the Open Directory Project. I would be grateful for a few moments of your time to review my query and provide a response if possible - any assistance that you may be able to provide will be greatly appreciated – thanks. Firstly, I had submitted my site on a few occasions and each time awaited patiently believing that the site was more than worthy of being indexed. After several months (3-4) had passed I began contacting editors to see if they could review my site for possible inclusion. Of the 4-5 editors I contacted I received only one response – and my site was subsequen…

To the powers that be, Periodically over the last 4 years i have submitted one of our sites to DMOZ (with at least a 2-12 months break inbetween). Unfortunately, we still have not recieved a listing. We manufacture our own products and offer (in our opinion) a very good site with excellent products. We have studied the categories very carefully and always take time with our submissions. Can anyone provide some useful information?

I have a multilingual site about an island in Denmark <url removed>. Normally there is a Top > World > Language > Regional > Europe > Country category, possibly even with subcategories. For two baltic languages though (estonian and latvian) there are no countries under Europe except for the neighbouring baltic countries. Should I just submit under the Europe category and then hope for an editor to create a Denmark category? Can I be sure an editor will actually consider my submission? I guess it's pretty hard to find editors in small countries with very few pc's per capita compared to other countries.

Is there any difference between these two links? Most categories have the Add URL but the one I'm TRYING to add to has the Suggest URL link. Is the Add URL link working while the Suggest URL link is not or are both not functional at present?

Our site is Nutritiongeeks.com. Many SEO forums talk about editor corruption, but I think that's a little far fetched. However I asked for a status updates in Jan & April of 05', which were met with rather hostile replies from 1 of your moderators. I don't know if that had anything to do with our site not being reviewed in 2 years, but I'm left wondering what to do. Help please... Thank You

Hello, We have 16 different websites with same content. But we wanted ONLY ONE website to be in the directory. Our websites give information on the list of lawyers/law firms across America. We have been trying since past 5-6 months now. We also had sent a message to the editor of our category with the request for giving us suggestions. We had submitted 2-3 websites in these 4 months. But we didn't mean to spam or anything. The problem was whever we tried to submit our website, it would give an error, syaing server problem please try again, so we would hit back button and re do it. and it would again show the same finally until it says "your website was submitted" but w…

I want to know if I can apply to be listed on the DMOZ for a domain that is similar to one already registered. Currently, I have http://www.disklabs.com http://www.disklabs.nl, on the DMOZ, but have just agreed with a company over in the US to partner up with us. They have just registered http://www.disklabs-USA.com . The site will be similar to that at Disklabs.com, but not the same. The site will also have different text, but will principally be 'Americanified'. I want to get this domain listed on the DMOZ, however, I dont want to upset the editors, and I cant find where this rule is stipulated. Simon

I am trying to follow the instructions as listed. When I go to : http://www.dmoz.org/...rty_Management/ I see the other property companies in my neighborhood listed so I assume I have found the correct section to add mine. However, I do not find any place to add my URL. My website is comparable to the other sites listed. Can you please help me figure out what I am doing wrong? Thank you in advance !! I understand that it might take a while before a site is added, I would just like a chance to submit mine for review. Appreciate your help. Wendy

Well, I seem to have <ahem> goofed up a submission a bit. We completed and launched a new website for a client. On October 1, I found the correct ODP category where similar sites were listed, and submitted. On checking the category the next day to see if it had been added (I know, I know), I discovered that the client already had a listing (oops). On second look, it was for a site he'd had earlier -- one of these online we'll-build/host/promote-it-for-you services which the client had cancelled after hiring us. On clicking that link, it appears that it redirected to another similar site (which also has a link at ODP). Oy. No matter. My problem is that …

6 or 8 months ago I began a small business.I am strickly a novice when it comes to search engines and the like.I thought I followed what I understood to be dmoz guidelines about submissions.I contacted the editor of the category but was told I was a spammer.I tried to explain to this person that it was just a lack of knowledge on my part and I couldn't afford to pay a pro to do this submission.I had absolutely no intent to violate any rules.I can't get the editor to even acknowledge my emails.I don't know what else I can do to correct this misunderstanding. The url's are www.AutoLoans.us and www.CarLoans.us the category is Shopping > Vehicles > Autos > Loans . I …

FOOD FOR THOUGHT!!!!! Let me start like this, first of all it is very sad that Google and other SE's index and rank sites according to their placement at DMOZ or any other human edited similar portal! Reason for saying this is, it all started as a beautiful and perfect idea but just as every other perfect idea it has lost its aims and more specificly its goals of making the internet free and more objective in nature, as it was not the idea to make it a monopoly of certain people!!!!!. The editors have become the absolute authority for judging a websites quality or for that matter any other standard! but what standards if any are in place for checking the quality of…

I have read other threads concerning people submitting a site but never having it published, and it seems that I have a similar problem. I am submitting my site to a relatively small category with 49 websites listed. My line of business is very specialised and so matches this category perfectly, but no other. I submitted my site almost 2 years ago and have heard nothing. Infact the category doesn't seem to have been updated at all in that time - although there is a note "last updated 26th April 2006"... not sure if that's the website's update or the category's update though. I have applied to become an editor, and heard nothing... then as no-one replied to my web…
