Hi, I am the webmaster of a forum directory called 1001Forums : http://http://www.1001forums.com In this directory, there are, today, 6398 forums classifieds in 3091 categories. I submitted this website to the appropriate category several times in 3 years, and my website has never been added. It seems that nobody is updating the category where I submitted : http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Cyberspace/Online_Communities/Directories/ Please, can someone tell me if anyone is in charge of this category and how to contact him ? The French version (1001forums.fr) has been listed in dmoz a long time ago : http://dmoz.org/World/Fran%c3%a7ais/In…

Spam and inability to get listed

When I put up my site - Hobbywoods.com - last August/September, I submitted it to ODP. I tried a couple of more times, probably too closely together, in different categories. When I was reviewing my site stats, I noticed some sites listing me under rphill spam. Actually I had no idea what that meant...eventually I figured it out. Did I submit more than three times? And if only three times, does that constitute spam. What else have I done to be classified as spam? Choosing a category for my site has been daunting...there are so many that are very similar. Recently I submitted my site again to (I think) a different category, Shopping: Crafts: Supplies: Woodcraft: Wo…

Hello all. I am visting forum from my date of signup and I found that most complains are about "Site submitted but still not added". Some blaiming from 1 year and some blaiming more than one year. In one reply I found in which "spectregunner" said that "A wait of one year is not exceptionally long." the url is http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=50398 I personally would like to suggest that it should be a time frame for adding even it will be one year or two year. I mean to say the suggesting person will not submit again and will not get worried before time frame. Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi all! I'm sure this topic has been covered, but I've followed all the guidelines for site submissions: (submitted, waited for 90 days, resubmitted, waited 90 days, emailed category editor, waited some more...) Do I just keep repeating that process? (I don't want to annoy the editors...)I have several sites that are stuck in this same kind of "limbo" here at ODP, in different categories. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Hi all, This is such an informative and practical site. I've been able to find a lot of info, but didn't immediately find an answer to my question(s). Anyway, I've been trying to list my site (www.ascleanedontv.com) on DMOZ since December of last year. I first submitted on Dec 7th, 2001, then again on Dec 21st, 2001, February 10th, 2002, and finally on March 29th, 2002. The submission dates my be off by one or two days. Anyway, I've taken care to be in compliance with the guidelines set forth by DMOZ as best I can. The CAT I've been submitting to has been 'Shopping: Home and Garden: Cleaning' and to date I still am not listed. Question: Have I been inadvertan…

Hello, I would like to submit my website (http://www.falada.com/ as "Falada Vacation Rentals") under http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/Vacation_Rentals/ My competitors are listed there and I would like to be in that category as well, but there is no "Suggest URL" link on that page. I can't find another appropriate category. We are online directory of vacation rentals covering all of the United States. Going deeper doesn't make sense because I would have to deep-link in every state. I considered http://www.dmoz.org/Recreation/Travel/Lodging/Vacation_Rentals/Directories/ but that directory is for companies coveri…

Are e-mail newsletter sites okay?
by Guest -- 5 replies

I like this forum. Starting to understand ODP a bit better. Question: Submitted a site about three times since last summer to a regional category. It's not in, yet. At the site, users can subscribe to free weekly e-mail newsletters about residential real estate sales in two counties in the state. Do you think the site content might be the problem? Are e-mail publication sites okay? Could the category I selected be wrong? It's a bit of an odd ball product, a regionally specific e-newsletter. It's hard to know where to put it. I submitted it to Arizona:Business_and_Economy:Real_Estate. Thanks in advance.

Hello, We have a business http://rockbrothers.com which offers multi media audio/visual production services including web design, graphic design & web hosting; video production services including pre and post for both broadcast and non-broadcast productions, crew and talent coordination, photography and other related services. We would like to get listed in multiple categories and understand from reading other posts that this means we may submit once to "Topical" (Arts, Business, Computers, etc.) and once to "Regional". We found many categories for which we provide services and was wondering if it is possible to get listed in more than one "Topical" secti…

The announcement of technical problems is dated Oct. 23! So this site has basically been down for nearly 2 months? Is there any concern that the fact that the internet has continued functioning without it for two months makes the open directory project seem somehow extraneous? To say nothing of the fact that surely even a guy running a couple of servers in his basement could get things back up in less than two months! As Anthony Bourdain might ask, "What kind of crack house are you people running here?" I'm joking, to a degree, but.... two months? Really? Or maybe I read that wrong....

Hi Ed, I am enquiring about the status of my submitted URL www.elanguest.de/index.aspx I have submitted our URL three times over the past 3 months and I am worried that I may have over submitted or there may be something wrong with my submission. www.elanguest.de/index.aspx is the absolute URL for our German site and I hope that this is not causing a problem in any way. I did not realise that on the first submission I submitted www.elanguest.de but since submitting that I have had some problems submitting that to the likes of Altavista as it is apparently not the absolute url. I contacted our webmaster and he told me to try www.elanguest.de/index.aspx so I d…

I have previously submitted my website (http://www.keithmalone.com) to the following category: http://dmoz.org/Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Media_Production/Video/Videographers/Wedding_and_Events/Ireland/ I first submitted a few months ago and more recently approx a week ago. However, I am changing over my url to http://www.keithmalone.ie as a dot IE domain is particular to Ireland. I'm reluctant to submit the new site yet as it is identical to http://www.keithmalone.com and I don't want to be blocked in case it is mistaken for a mirror site!! Can any editor out there advise me on the best course of action? Thanks Keith

Hello, I've been reading many of the discussion threads about sites not being listed. We're in the same boat. We've read the FAQ but it still doesn't seem to answer why it has taken so long for our site (three months and counting...) when others get on in a matter of days. Our site is very specific and was submitted twice to the specific category type (Recreation, Pets, Breed, Bengal, Catteries, North America, United states). Our site is <url removed> but day after day comes and goes with no listing in the dmoz. What concerns me is that there is no feedback at all on wether the site has been reviewed and rejected or if it has been listed. We just check day …

Im pretty much clueless where such a site would go. Lets say 'A.com' owns multiple websites, including webmaster.com, gaming.com, food.com No central focus, but it is the 'head' company. Where would such a website go?

I requested a site to be added. Within a few days it appeared However when I tried to find it using the search option I couldn't, so I navigated to the directory itself. When looking at my listing I realised that my description had nothing that could give you an indication of what the site was about. Virtually all the other listings did. So, I updated my listing to include something descriptive of the site. Now the site has gone. I am assuming that a request to update a site does not remove it, pending review (else anybody could remove anybodies site!) So I am wandering if they are removed for a short while whilst being processed, like the Editor updat…

Submitting Updates
by Guest -- 6 replies

I occasionally change the descritions of my websites to reflect changes in their content. Sometimes I even change the titles. In March I submitted two updates but changes in the Directory have not taken place. In general, how long should we wait before we submit a change request for the second time? Or should we? Many thanks for ODP. My websites are found through a great number of search engines because of ODP. Peter

Hi. First, let me say that this IS NOT a request for site submission status. So please read on. In a previous post I asked: Please let me know the status of:http://www.tropicalretreats.co.uk/ submitted to: http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Spa...cation_Rentals/ on the 28th May 2004. The response told me that it was received and was awaiting review. Today, my site is still not listed and I don’t know what to do next. At that time ( May 2004) the DMOZ 'rules' suggested that if you re-submit a site then it goes to the bottom of the queue. So I have never resubmitted. However, I now see that some DMOZ submission guides (not official) suggest that you shou…

We are a private investigation company and submitted our site April 4, 2011 to DMOZ> Have asked in this forum a few times about how long it takes, and other than the usual ( wait your turn ) downright rude comments, I have yet to understand why our site has not made it in the directory. <URL removed> is the site and anyone who can help us , I think two years is long enough to wait don't you?

Hi All! Online I'm known as Webmaster T some of you may know of me I'm one of the founding members of SeoPros.org. I need clarification about DMOZ guidelines. Can you please comment on the following scenario: An SEO company has 5 web sites. One web site serves as the umbrella site, describing all the company's services. The second site describes the company's submission services. The third site describes the ranking reporting services. The fourth site describes the meta tag creating service, and the fifth site describes traffic analysis services. Are these sites listable on DMOZ?
