Not sure if I'm being unreasonable and would appreciate some direction... it's been over 2 months, should I assume my submission was rejected? If so, how can find out what I need to do to resolve any issues that resulted in such? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Ryan

Dropped in 2001 and can't get relisted

Hi, Sometime early in 2001, my site www.MauiParadise.Net was dropped from the Open Directory for reasons unknown to me. My site previously had been listed in the category Regional: North America: United States: Hawaii: Maui: Localities: Kihei: Travel and Tourism: Lodging: Vacation Rentals Since that time, I have tried resubmitting the site on numerous occasions to this category with no luck. Some of the resubmission dates were: 7/7/01 7/25/01 9/6/01 Because the category did not have an editor, in June 2001 I also volunteered to become an editor for the category, but was rejected. On 12/5/01 I also tried sending an e-mail to the editor (janv) of anoth…

First of all, thank you for creating this forum. It is nice to see how well people are treated and how speedy it is. I have a question about how I should try to get our site listed. We have been aiming to get listed as a “shopping” site for approximately 8 months now (Shopping: Crafts: Supplies). We have only submitted 3 times in those 8 months. From what I have picked up here, I may have made a mistake by submitting to the “Shopping” category. My understanding is that the category has a large backlog. Would it make more sense to submit to another category? The category of “Business: Industries: Wholesale: Craft Supplies” is just as appropriate as the “Shoppin…

How to request URL update and move?

My site is http:/www.playbookmanager.com and is in the http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Sports/Football/American/Coaching_and_Instruction/ category. I didn't want to move the main URL, but I learned from the Site Submission Status forum that the Shopping category doesn't generally allow two listings per site. So, it seems that the best thing to do, now that the site also contains a sports equipment store, is to request that it be moved to http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Sports/, because that is where all the competitors for the store are. Also, http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Sports/ is used by far more directory services than the category that we are currently in. I know that I can request…

Robozilla at my site but no ODP link.

I submitted my site to the ODP about a month ago. To my knowledge I am not listed in any cat I can find. I also tried the search. No listing. Robozilla visited me yesterday. From what I understand, which isn't much /images/icons/wink.gif, Robozilla only searches ODP sites looking for dead links. Am I listed? If so where. Does Robozilla test links before adding them to the directory? --james

Hi I submitted my site about 6 weeks ago and it's not listed yet. Can anyone tell me if that's normal, or maybe I've done it incorrectly. Since I've never had any contact from an editor, I'm thinking it's the latter. Can anyone tell me how can I find out if I need to resubmit? Wayne

Hi, I am trying to get listed since 2 years into this category: http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Finland/Society_and_Culture/Expatriate_Life/ but have no success. Can anybody tell me if this category is still maintained or if there is something wrong with my website? I would really appreciate your assistance. My site got also listed on official sites related to this country but on DMOZ I have really no luck even so I think that my content is unique Can anybody assist me?

I'm responsible for submitting 3 URLs: www.shopperguide.net, www.texasgolferguide.com and www.flroidagolferguide.com. I Submitted them on my own, but then purchased a service to help up in the engines -- they required me to submit them again in order to keep track of them. I realized that this constituted multiple submissions after I had undergone the process. I know that the sites probably haven't been viewed yet for consideration, but I don't want the editors to view my submission mistakes as Spamming. We had also revamped the sites after the first submission, with new keywords and so forth, so the most recent submission would be the best one. Do you think that the…

I would like to submit a web site to Recreation:Boating:Power Boating:Hovercraft:Organizations. I would also like to suggest a new category under which I can submit a second web site: Recreation:Boating:Power Boating:Hovercraft:Publications (or Newsletters). First, there is no "Suggest URL" link on any of these categories. Please advise! Second, how do I suggest a new category? Thanks!

Hello, I submitted a site to DMOZ back in June 2007. It has not been listed as yet. I was wondering if the domain name could be the cause. Our company offers two software products, one Lotus Notes based, the other 100% Web based. While they share the same general framework, they are substantially different products not only in platform but also features and functions. These products share the same name, except that the Web product is appended with .Net. The Lotus Notes product is listed in DMOZ under its name, as http://www.******.com (no, its name isn't really *******). The Web product site is named similarly but it is http://www.******.Net. I am afraid that …

Correct Submission Category?

Hi, I am trying to determine the correct category for my site as previous tries in 3 separate categories have been unsuccessful. My site is http://www.allaboutautoresponders.info and provides resources on all aspects of selecting and using autoresponders. A site with virtually identical purpose, http://www.autoresponder-review.com/ appears on computers:internet:email:response tools, but submissions there have not been listed. Submissions to computers:software:internet:servers:mail:autoresponder services and computers:e-books: titles were also not listed (I sell one autoresponder e-book and offer another free). I feel confident my site offers more than adequate unique con…

I write this on the heels of submitting a site (that I am president of) for the second time in over a year just for the heck of it. Thought I'd check out the forum and see if anything had changed in this broken system... alas, it seems it has not. (Incidentally, I launched a very successful site about 6 years ago and had no problems getting listed in DMOZ at that time.) The new site I run is the real deal with exclusive content, built with the most current technology and supported by corporate advertisers unlike any of the other homemade outdated sites listed in my category, some consisting only of text links. In other words, it's laughable to not list it. And yet..…

correcting a large number of URLs

Our site contains several hundred reviews of individual products. ODP recently picked up all of our category pages... over 100 links! Hurray for the dedicated volunteers! However, we just released a new version of the site with new URLs. Is there a way to submit our URL updates in a single file to make it easy for someone to update them? I can create a spreadsheet with category, old URL and new URL. Or should we just submit the updates from each category page on ODP? Thanks in advance for your advice.

Hello, I would be very grateful if someone could let me know if my site has been blacklisted for some reason. I have read ODP's guidelines quite closely, and submitted my site accordingly several times over the last couple of years. I am quite perplexed, as virtually all of my competitors have a listing, yet my site has not been accepted. If I am doing something wrong, please let me know so that my site will be accepted. I am willing to make any changes that you deem necessary so that my site may qualify. Thank you in advance, David http://www.essaytown.com

Site Inclusion Problem
by Guest -- 3 replies

I submitted a site to: http://dmoz.org/Business/Industries/Manufacturing/Polymers/ Consultants/ in late January. Because it was never indexed, I resubmitted in mid-March, yet it is still not included. This category has no editor, so I am unsure how to inquire on why it has not been added. Any ideas? Thanks.

I have two questions.the first is about the a particular classification and the second is about our site's placement due to expansion. I have already asked the editors of the relevant section, who have referred me here. Originally Japan Today, http://www.japantoday.com was an online news source only and it was placed under Regional > Asia > Japan > News and Media > Online Media even though we felt it would have been better under Regional > Asia > Japan > News and Media Since we originally placed our listing in DMOZ our site has expanded hugely and will becoem a true portal site for Japan. The site now incorporates Metropolis magazine …

When I searched for a site in dmoz, several items in different directories appeared. Is that means that a site can be placed in several directories? Therefore, I want to submit my site to several directories that are suitable concurrently. Can I do so?

Hello Can we submit a site that is using parts from another database, if the information is different, there are 2 different domain names and the purpose of the site is different from the main one? The main site (full database) is www.archi-web.com - currently enqueued for admission check to DMOZ The other site we want to submit is www.archiwebusa.com and we want to list it into a different category than the first one. Thanks
