Hi there, I am working on the SEO for our client Mr Lender (url removed per guidelines) and need help removing the URL from DMOZ. Despite the best intentions to be featured on DMOZ, the same listing and links have been shared on a number of low quality websites and this has caused our Google rankings to drop significantly. I would be grateful if there is anyone who could help please e.g an editor Thank you in advance, Daniel Tannenbaum

Finally, after 13 months, an editor had a look at my site last week. I just hope he was not using Firefox as a very small HTML problem prevented the site from showing on Firefox but not on other browsers. I am through the waiting for an editor to visit. Now the waiting is whether the site will be listed or not. I hope it gets listed. Please.... Thanks to the editor who took time to visit my site.

Hi there, I submitted my site http://www.iwmwaterjet.com to the following category: http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Industrial_Goods_and_Services/Machinery_and_Tools/Cutting_and_Machining/Machine_Tools/Manufacturers/ My question is how do I know if there is an editor there for this category? If there is no editor there, do I just wait forever? Do the editors check each category and help to cover when there is no editor for a particular one? Thanks.

First, thank you for including our submitted site to the ODP. However, I do have a few questions regarding the listing. The listing was place in the ...South Carolina>Localities>B>Bluffton>Business & Economy>Real Estate directory with the link text as Darle Booher - Charter I. We had requested ...South Carolina>Localities>H>Hilton Head Island>Business and Economy>Real Estate with the link text as Hilton Head Area Luxury Homes.com - Hilton Head Real Estate (or at least Hilton Head Area Luxury Homes.com). If at all possible, we would like to have the listing moved to our original request destination with the submitted title. Here are …

Hello, I'd just like some suggestions about where to submit my site http://www.scavenger-hunt-idea.com I sell do-it-yourself downloadable scavenger hunts. I've been searching for the right category but nothing seems to fit. I don't want to limit myself to a regional area like some of the hunt URL's I found - I can sell these to anyone with an Internet connection. Thank you for your feedback, Susan susan@scavenger-hunt-idea.com

I have a client http://www.cartech.com who's home page is already listed within the directory, however we've been working with the sub-pages of the site and trying to get those into the directory. Each of the sub-pages are different divisions of the company, each providing very different industrial services. (I have listed the urls for those sub-pages below.) After no sucess in getting the individual pages listed in categories without editors, I spoke with an editor of a broader business category. In his opinion the sub-pages were not unique enough and suggested that we request a change in description to the home page listing (which is found here: http://dmoz.org/Busi…

I have a fansite for an actor listed here: Top: Arts: Performing Arts: Acting: Actors and Actresses: D I'm now trying to list a fansite for another actor, last name M, who is not already listed in dmoz. I try listing in the same category as my D-website, but I am told that fansites must be listed under Top: Arts: Celebrities. Is there some reorganisation and will my D fansite be moved Arts/Celebrities too? Should I just enter my M site under Arts/Celebrities too? Thanks, taizu

Ok, I have www.consultgroup.net.au to submit and because it covers so many types of consulting for so many different organisations I don't know where to put it. The appropriate category for it has not got an "add url" button and none of the sub categories are adequate as they might be suitable for small segments of the site only. Should I e-mail one of the 4 editors looking after the appropriate category? or what? http://dmoz.org/Business/Consulting Thanks

I have a site www.tembe.co.za (about a national park)which is listed in the directory. The site has been translated into German and has it's own url www.afrika-elefanten.com but is non the less a copy of the english site. The parks largest foreign language visitors are German hence the German site. I do not speak German so cannot vouch for the quality or lack thereof of the translation !! Also cannot find my way around the german section of the directory ! Is there a suitable German category to which this site may "if permitted" by submitted ? Possibly submitted www.brinkssafes.com couple time

I think I may have submitted my web site: http://www.brinkssafes.com/index.html a couple times. I was having problems with my computer a few days ago when I was trying to submit. I then tried yesterday and submitted without a problem. I have since found this message board and thought I would ask your advice about being able to delete a post so as not to offend an editor by having them think that I am spamming. Is there a way to do that? There is no-one listed as the editor to the category I submitted or I would have tried to appoligize to that person directly. The category I submitted to was: Bus./Bus. Services/Security/Products & Equipment/Locks and safes. …

Unsucessful attempts to get site listed

Greetings to all! I have been having a very long and tiresome experience trying to get our website listed in dmoz. 11 months ago, I started submitting my company's website to be added to the dmoz directory. After the 3rd month's submission, I received this nasty email from a store owner (a competitor or at that time a future competitor) stating that our store had stolen content from their site. I couldn't imagine how that could be, since we used a template that came with Miva Merchant and simply added in a look and feel module. At that time, I wondered how did they even locate the website since we were listed in no search engine at that point. I explained this MIVA templa…

Earlier last year I submitted www.fsbo-homes-usa.com to the category Shopping|Classifieds|Homes - FSBO. I believe my last submission was 6/30/03. I inquired about the status for the first time on 12/23/03 and received the following reply from brmehlman: I had read the Selection Criteria before I submitted, and I read them again after I got the rejection status. I am unable to deduce the reason for rejection, so I was wondering if someone could help. The site has changed a lot since its last submission, but I can't tell if the rejection was based on its current form or an older state. If you are able to tell me that it was based on an older state, should I resubm…

I tried to suggest our website almost a year ago with no success so far. We follow every step to create appropriate submission but funny thing is that other similar websites were already listed despite the fact that their website were suggested later (we get that info directly from site administrators). I've been trying to submits my sites <removed URLs> to DMOZ for over 2 years and non was indexed. I have been question of DMOZ fairness and worth for awhile and wondered if other people feel the same? I think if you're not in their club(DMOZ members club) your site will never get index. It is just not fair for search engines like Google give DMOZ so much credits. It is a crook free world.

Thank you so much for listing my site some time ago. We are launching stationery this year, in addition to our address labels. I could use some help with this, if possible, I have read up on the subject and can't find a definitive answer. 1. Is it permissable to have two listings, under both "stationery" and "labels?" 2. Is it beneficial to be in two, if allowed? 3. Do I need to be in yet another category - see examples below? 4. I'd like to edit my description, and I have read how to do that, but wanted to ask about getting moved or doubled up first. Regarding other categories. On Google, the search term "address labels" now brings up the business category, …

Question about category?

Hello, Our web site http://www.kschweizer.com sells journals, stationery, pens and other gift items. Technically, we are a gift stationery store. We are currently listed in the following DMOZ category: shopping:publications:books:blankbooks This doesn't seem to be the most appropriate category even though we do sell blank books (journals/diaries). Would it be possible to add our company (or switch) to the following category: shopping:gifts:stationery This seems to be more appropriate for our company. Thanks for your help in this matter.

Hello, I submitted my website several months back and did not get a response. However, I worked out my site well so that all that coding is as good as it can get - at least 95% no broken links - I think. I have resubmitted again. I think last March, towards the last weeks. I am not sure. This is my site: http://www.pcentral-online.net/ And I think I remember this was the category I put it in Society/Religion/Christianity/Denominations/Catholic/Webmaster/Resources I hope this is the correct information I have given. Is there any way we can get from this website the exact date of my site submission and the category I placed it in? Thanks, Dennis

http://www.dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Desktop_Customization/Cursors/ I been trying to get into that category for 4 years. I submit my site probably once every 6 months or once a year and usually never get a reply. Does it not have an editor? How do I find out the editor of that category or if there is one? I notice people on these forums talking about contacting an editor like they know where to look and stuff. Where would you look for this type of information?

I'm terribly new to this. How do I get my wepage address to work in the "search" box of a search engine? I don't need advertising position, cause I got nothing to sell, I would just like people to be able to find me without typing in my address into the "location" box of a search engine. This is probably a dumb & dumber questions, but I have not seen the answer to it in my searching the web the last two days. Help? Please. Tom Braun Cedar City, Utah: wisdomdigest.net

I have 2 questions. The first one is how do you get listed on open directory? In an effort to submit my site to open directory I first read the instruction’s page which had a link to a page with a bunch of categories. The only one that came close to where my site might go was shopping so I clicked on it. .Then I was taken to another page with more categories and the best one for me was gifts so I clicked on it. Then that took me to another page with more categories and the best one was personalized so I clicked on it. This took me to another page with more categories but none were appropreate so I started over going thought the same process but stopping when I got to th…

Appeal for appropriate site listing

Hello, I recently contacted the editor [edited] through the editor feedback form to find out the status of an update request for http://www.bagsforme.com. It had been months since my original request and there was no editor for the requested category (Shopping/Travel/Luggage). [edited] indicated in his reply that bagsforme.com would not be listed because my company had other listings in the same category. I would like to point out that the site to which [edited] is referring (http://www.sinsimmia.com) is not a duplicate listing, but rather an old site that my company has all but abandoned. We've gone through several websites over the years as we've grown and ma…
