I try to keep the discussion here in rather general level but take my own case as an example. I hope this is ok? I used to be an editor in Regional/ category. I was kicked out only after about one month's editing. Since that I have asked three times to be reinstated but I have had no response. Last time was about a month ago. It may have been that since I was rather a new editor I made some mistakes. However, those listed in http://dmoz.org/newsletter/2000Sep/removal.html do not apply. Specific Reason for Rejection

Hi I have applied twice now to be an editor. The first reason a few days ago was that the category was too large, so I reapplied for a microscopic category. http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Personals/Regional/Europe/Ukraine/ I was rejected again and really I cannot see any reason why, given the normal reasons given for rejection. I can post my application here with a refutation of each point but it would be really helpful if you could tell me the specific reason why I was rejected. There was no conflict of interest, there were no spelling mistakes, the sites were great candidates, the descriptions were well written and in line with current examples…

It has been close to a month since I applied to be editor of the category Business > Business Services > AudioVisual > Equipment > Audience Response Systems as the name Cybermench. Does anyone have an idea when a decision might be made? Since applying, I have learned that many applications have ben turned down for supplying less than 3 suggested URL's - I only suggested 2, as this is a very small category, and I hope I will not be turned down because of that. thanks

While reading through a number of forums recently I saw that DMOZ is struggling due to the shortage of active editors and a massive backlog of unreviewed sites, and I developed a desire to help if I could. I chose an editorless category with which I have some experience but no vested interests and I spent a good number of hours putting together an application to become the editor. The application was rejected about two hours after it was submitted. Although there is a section in the rejection email for the reviewer to make comments, it was left empty. Hi, I applied for the category Recreation/Boating/Sailing/Associations/One Design Associations/Dinghies, back in August. I received the confirmation email from daemon@dmoz.org">daemon@dmoz.org</a> advising my application has been received. I did not hear anything after that but did notice a profile was set up for me and I saw my name against this category. However I have been unable to activate my account and it has probably timed-out. About 6 weeks ago, I sent emails to editors complaining that the editor of the category Business: Business Services: AudioVisual: Equipment: Audience Response Systems was unbiased, promoting his own company and lying about a competitor whose website I manage. Like steveb (see earlier post), I have been rejected for being over ambitious in the size of category that I selected. http://dmoz.org/Society/Relationships/Dating/Personals/Regional/ I assume that (as per steveb's application) this means I am deemed suitable as an editor but should focus on a smaller area. As there are no editors in this category I would maintain that somebody is better than nobody and I have many years experience in this area. Decided to do my part any apply to be an editor in a category without an editor that is poorly maintained. Choose a category with about 30 listings, plus two sub-categories with 20 listings between them. I certainly know as much about this category as anyone alive. My three example sites were completely unique to the category. But I recieved this rejection: "Thank you for your interest in becoming an Open Directory Project editor! I applied to become an editor with the login 'seindal' in the category Science: Social Sciences: Archaeology: Periods and Cultures: Roman: Sites and Monuments: Italy but there are almost no editors in the entire region of the directory. The closest category with an editor is four levels higher, in Science: Social Sciences: Archaeology Will this affect my chances of becoming and editor? I'm interested in a smaller category (40 +/-) that already lists an editor, but I've found significant problems with the sites listed.... i.e. sites that link to warez sites, one company listed three separate times, etc. Should I apply for this category, as I'm familiar with the industry and companies, or should I find another category that does not list an editor? My editor application was rejected last night. The following information was provided at the bottom of the rejection email: Reviewer Comments: See http://dmoz.org/guidelines/describing.html I am assuming that the application was rejected because I did not follow the proper guidelines while writing the titles and descriptions. I submitted again after completely re-writing the whole application from scratch. Did I do the right thing? Thanks PS: editor name used "kcsurf"
