Dear Maters, We all know that DMOZ is stricly fair about companies not to get listed more than ones and if they are affiliated to make sure only one of the main website get listed. Now I want to tell about vegas.com and lasvegas.com and more websites they have, these URLs are belong to the same company. Now : 1 )they are originally listed here as Vegas.com http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Nevada/Localities/L/Las_Vegas/Guides_and_Directories/ 2) Vegas.com listed here as music.vegas.com - Reviews of Ratt in Las Vegas, and plenty of pictures. BUT link REDIRECTS to http://www.vegas.com/shows/ http://dmoz.org/Arts/Music/Bands_and_Artists/R/Ratt/ …

I received an email from a client from the company Topsites LLC which runs a web directory using DMOZ listings (http://www.topsitez.us/) They are asking $5 dollars either to get listed in the directory or to renew the listing. As we all know DMOZ listing are free and does not require any payment or renewal fee at all. My warning to you all is: DON'T PAY! And inform your clients listed in DMOZ not to pay. They are sending email directly to clients. Jamned

To whom it may concern: First I'd like to apologize for any neglegance on my part for any wrong doing. Please understand that it is not my intention to do so. gregh@alternativesecurity.com In the past year, my account was flagged as spammer due to my not knowing of the existance of this site (resource-zone.com) and getting server 500 errors during submission. I'm assuming 6 months after my knowing of my accout status, I was supposed to check back to see if that got cleared. Unintentionally, I failed to do so and I submitted more sites for review. What (if any) suggestions might you have to rectify the issue that I have. -=-Thanks in Advance -=-Greg Hamam…

2 quick questions, as odp is only listing unique quality sites, -is there a policy in place, deleting those sites that have one or more mirror sites exposed to the public? (not talking about the one listed in odp) -how about sites containing half a page and more stuffed with hidden text/keywords?

Re my” Bring out your dead link” post I think you missed my point . Why does providing valuable leads to potential problems need to be shackled with a membership requirement? One would think the more input you receive the better. Why the hurdles?

My site has been listed in the Directory for a number of years, however the content description is outdated and no longer reflects the content of the main body of the website. Also, the site URL has changed. I submitted an update a number of times in the last five months but have seen no change in the listing. Please advise how to move forward with this process. <urls removed>

Does a policy exist regarding doorway pages? In the specific instances in which I am inquiring, one particular company has more than one site listed and also uses doorway pages for all major cities in the U.S.. The sites have different names and slightly different (but essentially the same) content. Is this permitted?

We have specific problems in English-language categories for countries where English is not one of the official languages. 1. Many, many sites not in English are submitted to the English-language Regional category for the relevant country. According to our Guidelines, they should be moved to the appropriate category in World. Experienced editors will do that, but sometimes inexperienced editors list the sites in Regional. (In some cases sites appear to have an English-language version, but in fact it is under construction, or goes no deeper than the menu. That could slip past an editor's guard. In other cases it once did have an English version, but no longer.) 2.…

Hi there, I was wondering how businesses that are legitimate ecommerce sites get listed on this Shopping section of dmoz? It just seems a little odd that only 9 businesses in the world currently make the grade. My concern is that given the nature of commerce, there are potential additional URL's to this section which might not be given the opportunity to be listed. I am not suggesting impropriety by editor(s) but think maybe the workload of the current editor(s) might be high. Regardless, the shopping section of DMOZ is a great idea but would like to see more listings. Cheers, yojiki

ODP's procedure when investigating abuse?
by Guest msaw- 4 replies

I have found a blatant case of abuse, and will be emailing the details to one of the metas. Meanwhile, I was wondering: 1) Once you find a site and its duplicates, cloaked replicas, etc., which are all listed multiple times in DMOZ, how easy is it for you to find out which editor(s) listed all of these? 2) If most of these sites were listed by someone who is still an editor, do you ban the person immediately? (I hope so!) 3) How far do you look into other things that this same editor may have done (e.g., deleting competitors' listings, etc.)? Do you have access to complete records of everything that each editor has done? 4) After that, does someone go back and …

As usual I am always trying my best to do my part to help out Jim Noble and the rest of the DMOZ editors. The following topic: Games/Gambling/Chats_and_Forums/ has the website: Forum4Gamblers - Gambling forum with sections for winners and losers. This link is down where you receive the following error: phpBB : Critical Error Error creating new session DEBUG MODE SQL Error : 1194 Table 'f4g4f4g_sessions' is marked as crashed and should be repaired INSERT INTO f4g4f4g_sessions (session_id, session_user_id, session_start, session_time, session_ip, session_page, session_logged_in) VALUES ('48f51bcf410633f0d4d194f5e12ff397', -1, 1281616919, 1281616919, '439…

It appears that three entries in the DMOZ for our domain have been removed. The listing that have been removed were all affected by the two SQL inject hack/attack that we suffered recently. The other entries from our domain that remain in the DMOZ were not "index" or "default" and so were not damaged by the attack. Is there a plan to automatically recheck and re-insert all the entries that were removed because of this hack? (This would have impacted on many sites). Edit/Update: After further research I have found that two of the three entries removed, were removed prior to any known issues with the hacking/attack. They were in the DMOZ for 5th Feb 2008 release and …

The description on dmoz for my organization, “Order Sons of Italy in America” (or “OSIA”), is incorrect and contains erroneous information. Presently, it says: "(OSIA) National site for this fraternal order for Italian-American men. Membership information, local lodges, history, contact information, and programs." OSIA is not a fraternal organization, and it is 50/50 men and women. The text should read: “(OSIA) site for the largest and oldest national organization for men and women of Italian heritage in the United States. Membership information, local lodges, history, contact information, programs, and benefits.” Can this be fixed? Please let me know if…

Let me start off by saying that I'm not writing to beg for my site to be included.. I want to just clarify an issue that has risen. I've spent the last 3 years building software and content to become a pioneer in my niche. I think I've submitted my site a while back but never heard from you guys.. (no big deal). My content/design/process is a first in the industry and has made my business very successful in my niche and in turn ranks very well due to the buzz it creates (first or second on almost every major search engine for all my keywords). Anyhow the issue I wanted to bring up is that there is a competing site that blatantly copied my content/design/interface. T…

Hello, nearly 2 years ago I submitted my website. After waiting 6 months from that date, I assumed my submission was rejected so I submitted again. Alas, a year from the first submission I still had nothing. I am completely confused. I am sure you guys know best how to best run things; but there are indeed some problems. My question is, why not automate? A person opens an account, then opens a request--the request is either accepted or rejected and there can be real-time status on what is going on. A chain of comments etc. A history of who is "on the case" etc.

Hello, RE: Category: http://dmoz.org/Computers/Hardware/Storage/Data_Recovery/ I represent CBL Data Recovery Technologies Inc. http:http://www.cbltech.com and we are posting in regards to a competitor who has blatantly hijacked the design and architecture of the cbltech.com website and refuses to change the content despite many civil attemtps to resolve the issue. The site is currenlty listed along with us in the DMOZ directory. The site is: http://www.data-recovery-labs.com . The problem is that many clients of ours are getting confused by the two sites and it is now having a negative impact on our business. We are taking the necessary legal steps t…

They suggest that the editors must have integrety. We are a property website and we happen to know that a member of our competators from <Competitor's name removed for your own protection> is a editor on the section we have requested to be listed on, we have seen the people come to out site from the Dmoz editors page, and we dont get approved, We cant help but believe they are abusing their power to affect our rankings, I think its appauling!
