I have a question, I ask an editor to change the website domain from florida-home-loans-mortgages.com to anycreditmortgage.biz, but the editor deleted my list. My site was listed in http://www.dmoz.org/Business/Financial_Services/Mortgages/Regional/United_States/Florida/. Can someone tell me what happen and why he remove my site from the listed. Thanks, Fred

I have spent the last two or three hours reading over threads in most catagories, and to my amazement, have found something which I am guilty of being repeated over and over again. The same questions are being asked loads of times a day, soliciting the same responses. I asked some of these questions and I thought that the Moderators were somewhat rude in their responses. Having spent a few hours reading all the stuff that I should have read in the first place, and then another couple of hours reading through plenty of threads, I think the bluntness of some of my responses were understandable. When I first started to use the DMOZ, I couldnt understand why a deta…

I was wondering why there are so many dead links in the directory? A few days ago I downloaded the raw directory data and loaded it into our web safe bot, it searches for... (popups, unsafe script, 3rd party cookies, tracking). Now I am about 60% done with fetching all the pages in the directory, but I have over 50,000 pages so far, that return 404. I have personally tested half the ones that return 404 and all of them are real 404 returns! So my question is... When is the directory cleared of 404(s) and do you even check links before releasing the new data. I ask this because over 80% of the dead links have been in previous raw data releases. Thanks j

I submitted my website http://www.recipes4word.com in the summer of 2003. I resubmitted again in 2004, and most recently within the last week. The category is Writer's software. I can't find any reason why it would be rejected, and if so, why I wouldn't be informed. If you search for it on dmoz...zip, nada, nothing. I know there is a backlog...but years? Guidance would be appreciated. Confused

I am an ODP editor who is also trying to get my site accepted in the ODP (in a totally different category in which I edit). I have asked people who visit and use my site to provide me with their feedback. I have read though several feedback emails and have found (over the past few months alone) 3 emails in which people have said that they submitted my site to the ODP. I thought they submitted the site because they liked it. However after reading the statement below, it appears they submitted the site because they didn't like and therefore don't want to see it listed in the ODP. "Please only submit a URL to the Open Directory once. Again, multiple submissions of…

A website from a company that has been posing as us for a few years has been included in the DMOZ directory. We get several complaints a month from customers regarding this company. I filled out a spam report but I'm not sure if that was the correct place to report it. Who do I need to contact regarding this issue? The site is part of a huge link farm and I'm sure that DMOZ does not want sites like this included in their directory.

I submitted my site http://www.SlidingShelf.com in 2002, then again on October 13 of this year. I realize it hasn't been long, just becoming concerned about what the editors might consider "hype" in the description. Perhaps I've been too agressive with the description is the reason I'm not in ? I wonder... do you receive any feedback when your site is accepted/rejected ? I've never received anything from DMOZ except acknowledgement of registering for this forum. Dan

Hi, my website http://www.holiday-rentals.uk.com was listed in category; http://www.dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/West_Yorkshire/Pudsey/ but it is no longer showing - in fact there's not many sites now showing in this category. I was wondering why the listing was removed? If the listing will not be put back into this category will I have to wait another 3 years before the site is submitted, and what category would you recommend that I submit the site to. Any assistance would be appreciated.

to whom it may concern, I just wanted to take the time nearly a year and a half after my first submission of online-store-list.com to the dmoz to appologize to the moderators who took the time to respond to my request even though obviously disgusted by affiliate sites. When first I started this website I had absolutely no computer experience at all and thought that when I came across the idea that it sounded like a wonderful idea to supplement my families incredibly tight finances. I Figured that it was at least worth trying anyway. At that time I didn't reallize how many of these type sites were on the web and didn't understand why the moderators took such exception …

abusive forum moderator on here Damn it, this is ridiculous, not only were my non-malicious posts asking why my site was removed from dmoz were deleted, but my forum account here also got banned. I dont think it was because i broke forum rules or seomthing, because i read them thoroughly, i made a very common request and got abused by a moderator on here, in the "General ODP Issues" section. If these actions were taken because i broke some sort of rules, PLEASE pm me or tell me what i did wrong and i will correct it immediately!!!! I have a feeling that the abuse i have recieved on these forums form a moderator is in relation to my site getting removed. i…

Being a big fan of Dmoz I take it as my duty to report something very unethical I found. A website called Nivalink.com which is already listed in the proper category (http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/India/Maharashtra/Localities/Mumbai/Business_and_Economy/Business_Services/) has been very much deeplinked which is not at all worth. Please see http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=nivalink Some of the Hotels and Resorts listing is presented in such a way that it represent an official site while it DOES NOT Many of these Hotels have thier own offial websites too like "Victor Exotica". Its official site is http://www.donasylvia.com/exotica/html/exotica.htm …

Now that the ODP no longer does Status Checks, website submitters no longer have a way of having their grievances addressed. This makes it possible for everything from simple mistakes to actions by unscrupulous editors to go unchecked. This is potentially a very serious issue that I hope someone could address rather than sweeping under the rug by editing/deleting my post. As far as I know, I'm not breaking any rules -- rules apparently designed to protect errant editors. Without going into the details of my case, I submitted an abuse complaint about the editor of my category (a competitor) removing my site and editing the rest to enhance the searchability of his. That …
