Hello everyone, I am sure anyone has mentioned it before. But, I think the whole category is useless and unnecessary. In my opinion, to be listed in "Online Archives", the site must have a searchable database or an index that links to all news articles. If the site doesn't provide that, ODP shouldn't build an index for the site. Thanks 1q1q1q

I've just found a site linking to mine which contains a copy of the ODP directory data. The site doesn't mention the odp or have the 'support/become editor' box. Again when entering my details to another directory I noticed a similarity with the ODP directory. Some of the entries appeared to be exact copies of ODP data though in places new ones had been added. The site states that its directory is based on the ODP. It looks to me as if they took a copy of part of the ODP some while back and used it as a seed for their directory. These sites are owned by the same person and offer redundant information, cross linking to and from each other as well as false representation. The web cam page is not live and has been showing the same loop for the past 3 years(or more). It is clearly designed to increase page rank as is evidenced by the excessive crosslinking. I run NetSweat.com - http://www.netsweat.com. According to DMOZ, my site should be listed under "Health:Fitness:Personal Training:Online". (http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=netsweat ). Hello friends. Our website http://www.templatemonster.com has very old and outdated description. It says that it is a division of another company. We've submited about 20 requests during this year about editing the description, I've even personally emailed to the editor of the section. Nothing has been changed at all. We didn't get any reply. I'm watching the Web templates section regularly and can say that the editor of "Computers: Graphics: Web: Templates" section doesn't work. He needs to be replaced with the new one. Mods please take the appropriate actions. And please suggest how to change the description of our listing.

Hi Three years ago I submitted a site within a regional section for Bournemouth, UK. It was accepted and placed in the category I suggested. A year and a half later I re-branded my business in several ways, name, URL and brand image. I came to DMOZ and requested through the form for a change in our listing and name. Immediately within a couple fo days the name and url was removed and instead of complying with my request for it to be changed this was ignored and never was replaced. I've been writing/rewritig my first website for 3 months and finally put it up last Monday, tweaked it on Tuesday, submitted it to DMOZ on Wednesday and was listed by Friday! Ok so perhaps I was lucky enough to submit it at the right time (though I think the editor for the West Sussex/Bognor Regis category is quite active) but the speed means that the editor thought it was good enough to review immediately - what a compliment! As Dmoz feeds many of the search engines i feel as though it has a duty in part to restrict spam sites. However, i am a little confused as to the stance that editors take on this matter. I have found and reported websites using very bad tactics such as using hidden links which then feed into subpages loaded with keywords. These are then found in the search results of search engines. I have reported to my category editor this website on a number of occassions but have heard nothing back? Are these websites considered spam and is it worth making editors aware or are they not really that concerned once a site is in the directory?

Hello, On 21st February I filed a DMCA complaint with the Chief Counsel of AOL to have a site removed from the ODP. My understanding is that the correct mechanism for filing such a complaint is via http://www.aol.com/info/notify.html as the ODP is owned by Netscape Communications Corporation, which in turn is a subsiduary of AOL. No acknowledgement to the complaint has been made by either AOL, Netscape or the ODP.
