The two last entries in the BSD category are invalid. The BSDs: Sophisticated, Powerful, and (Mostly) Free - Historical overview of the operating systems. [ExtremeTech] (September 26, 2002) ZDNet: Enterprise: BSD to leapfrog Linux? - BSD is gaining ground fast as publicity efforts and Apple's Mac OS X take off. (November 29, 2000) Nothing on either of the sites listed references BSD directly.

I don't know if DMOZ cares about this or not, but the following site is using stolen copy on a cloaked page for their home page: International Inflatables - US manufacturer of inflatables, bouncy castles, moonwalks, slide inflatables and play structures. -- http://www.inter-inflatables.com/ Shopping: Entertainment: Party Supplies: Rentals: Inflatables (1) International Inflatables and Moonwalks - Leading US inflatables manufacturer of bouncy castles, moonwalks, slide inflatables, inflatable games and cold air play structures. -- http://www.inter-inflatables.com/ Regional: North America: United States: California: Localities: D: Desert Hot Springs: Business a…

Can I ask, what are the specific rules for updating a site? I ask because a particular web page is being updated every two or three days, listed under my name for search purposes, but with the sole purpose of subjecting me and my work to ridicule and abuse. No changes are being made to the page, so how can it be updated every other day? The page deals with several names, of which I am just one, so there's no logical reason for it to be listed under my name. I'm the only one being abused, and the entry concerning me is in bold. I've written to ask for the abuse to be removed, with no helpful response. I've also complained to the ODP, but the page remains. If no…

Hello dmoz, Take a look at a very good example of using a mouseover technique to fool search engines into high ranking. http://www.asiwebpage.com/hydrocarbon_analyzers_b.html rank #1 on google http://www.asiwebpage.com/hydrocarbon_analyzers_c.html rank #2 on google The technique uses a page (or pages) stuffed with key words as an entry point to a website that seach engines index and rank very highly. The page is indexed and when the visitor places his mouse on any part of the entry window or scroll bar the mouseover function redirects the visitor to the target website which could be "anything". This technique uses ascii escape sequence to mask the address of t…

In the category: [category removed] The sites [sites removed] both appear in the category. These sites are run by the same company and sell similar items. One of the sites should be removed. Thanks

http://dmoz.com/Sports/Baseball/Directories/ 1. Top20Baseball.com (click on any of the top 20 directory links and you get this message, "Couldn't connect to dmoz.org:80 : IO::Socket::INET: Connection refused." All this site has is baseball news that you can get from any other baseball site. Bad content, which goes against DMOZ rules.) 2. Superjoe's Baseball Homepage (All this page consists of is webrings from other sites. Half the pictures and links don't work. Bad content. DMOZ doesn't want bad content). 3. http://dmoz.com/Sports/Resources/Directories/ 1. ALeague Sports (none of the pages on this site work; which = bad content. This goes against the dmoz.com rules. Plus it wastes space). 2. 100hot Sports (this site is more then sports. It's a general search engine that should be listed under the search engine category. Same content as other sites I've seen listed under sports directories). 3. Searchsports (Should this site be listed under the sports shopping category, instead? I think so). 4. Sports, Health and Fitness Message Boards (This site belongs in the category of sports message boards). 5. Worldeasy (What does a traveling site have to do with sports?…

I thought you might like to know that you have two sites in the same category that are operated by the same company. Please go here: http://dmoz.org/Reference/Education/Products_and_Services/Academic_Papers/Fee_Based/ "Genius Papers" (http://www.geniuspapers.com) has a page with the URL of https://www.snrinfo.com/geniuspapers/ . "MegaEssays" (http://www.megaessays.com) has a page with the URL of http://www.snrinfo.com/megaessays/ , which is indexed in Google (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&ie=UTF-8&q=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.snrinfo.com%2Fmegaessays%2F&btnG=Google+Search). Both of these sites are connected to the same company, although for "MegaEssays" t…

My network of sites were once listed in DMOZ, and have since been removed. The reason I was given is that they are a network of sites (I operate local job boards in 24 cities). Our business model is very similar to craigslist, computerwork, and computerjobs (among others). These three networks seem to still have the majority of their sites listed. I use craigslist, and I think it's one of the best resources on the web, but if my site is being delisted due to its regional structure, it only seems fitting (and legal) to enforce the same guidelines toward our competitors. I suggest either delisting all sites with this structure, or better yet, abandoning this rule…

Hello. Much of the content of a site is recipes gathered from other sources and compiled together with pictures, not much is unique at all. The site is listed 105 times in many categories, sometimes like 5 times in the same category. I suppose this website is owned by a DMOZ editor. The problem I have is that now this site is commercial, selling all kinds of products, with top rank due to so many DMOZ placements. It seems crazy for one commercial site to have 105 listings so I reported it using the abuse reporting tool, within 24 hours that case was closed, as I assume it was looked at. It's been about 10 days and the site is still listed 105 times. Is it possibl…

I received the following this afternoon. I suspect the 24-7 folk scraped addresses from the dmoz site submission status discussion (I just love it when people say "this isn't spam".... I'm curious to know if anyone else received it. If so, I'll report it to the appropriate ISPs. -------------------------- I noticed your message on DMOZ today, regarding your site submission status, and was just going to let you know if you are looking for exposure, you may also be interested in registering with http://www.24-7shoppingmall.com directory. I know it can take awhile to get listed with DMOZ. I think the 24-7shoppingmall.com directory is also a human edited dire…

I noticed that a Site http://www.sri-lankahotels.com/ listed in Cat. http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Sri_Lanka/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/ is using the Web Templates of my Portal called http://www.realrajasthan.com There are ways to find that THIS SITE has copied. I would request the reputable Directory ODP to include such nasty sites.

Howdy all! I was reading this section and I saw lots of complaint/reporting but no one offering solutions. So, in good order, I'd like to make a suggetion to the ODP for site submission. Have submitters edit the section they wish to submit to. How would this work? Actually, not sure this is a good idea...probably heard it before...but. As a condition of submitting a site, webmasters/site owners are required to pick the best area for their site already. Now, simply add the requirement they review the section for sites which fall outside of ODP guidelines. (this requires they actually read and understand the guidelines for listing in ODP) Their own submiss…

It's time for a fresh start. The previous thread with a name similar to this one's was a mixture of valid concerns about language issues and accusations about the category in question. Accusations are in violation of the guidelines of this forum and will not be tolerated. Language issues should be addressed in the General ODP Issues forum. I'll try to pick the valid issues out of the deleted thread and start a new thread there. [added] The new thread is here.
