Here is the thread people seem to go to but inactives can't post to it. http://www.resource-zone.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=52274 Suggest that people who need to post to regain access to resource-zone posting post here since the members lounge doesn't allow posting from inactive members. (or this could be moved to bugs or something).

Hello, I am curious as how it can take some sites years to get in but on a couple of certain sites one has 4,850 entries And then another has over 38,000 entries? Some entries are quite new for both. How is this fair? Obviously these sites have people on the inside. Furthermore it seems sub-categories are created just for these sites. An editor would have to work full time for any one of these sites. There are a several more like this and they are all Branded sites that heavily utilize Adwords and I am sure spend huge advertisement dollars with Google. Thanks WW

I'm hoping someone can help me through this forum, if I am out of place posting here, I apologize, but I have written a few emails (hard to tell really, where to send them) none of which have produced any results. First of all, I must commend this project and all who are involved. A huge undertaking and I can see that the intention is in the right place. But as with many things, once human intervention is involved, there can be problems. That which is DMOZ's strength is also its weakness. I bid you all well in your efforts. Specifically, I own and maintain Steve's Authentic, my commercial site where I am selling my key lime pies. Although I know I could get more tra…

Hi there, Following some major changes in the category my site is listed under in dmoz, the company we bought out some time ago that was listed in dmoz was changed to our new company name and the link was changed to the new company website. This was great. However the description was not updated - thats fine as I recognise it is our job to do so. However, we have been waiting for some time (around 2-3 months) and I have submitted a couple of descriptions - just in case the first was deemed inappropriate for some unknown reason. Ordinarily this would not be an issue, however as everyone is probably well aware, google now pulls out descriptions from dmoz in place of …

Hi, I this this is unfair, because the mexonline.com has a link in almost every category of the mexican part of dmoz directory. I think this is spam or the editor is helping him or herself. It has a lot of html pages indexed. You can see here. http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=mexonline if the above link doesnt work, try to serch mexonline in the dmoz search box. It has more than 79 urls listed in dmoz, in diferents categories. and some of them doesn´t work or gives an error. Could you plese tell me why this is happening on dmoz? Regards, Enrique.

I noticed that a Site http://www.sri-lankahotels.com/ listed in Cat. http://dmoz.org/Regional/Asia/Sri_Lanka/Travel_and_Tourism/Lodging/ is using the Web Templates of my Portal called http://www.realrajasthan.com There are ways to find that THIS SITE has copied. I would request the reputable Directory ODP to include such nasty sites.

There are two web sites for organisations in Olton, Solihull, West Midlands, UK which seem to be getting mixed up on search engines. Sites in question are listed at: http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/West_Midlands/Olton/ One is Olton Baptist Church the other is Langley School. The church, as it happens, meet at Langley School which could possibly cause confusion. It could be that search engines are reading the entries incorrectly. See http://search.msn.co.uk/results.aspx?q=link%3Ahttp%3A%2F%2Fwww.oltonbaptist.org%2F&FORM=QBHP Wasn't sure what to do about this but thought I'd better mention it. Many thanks CharlesR

I would think that DMOZ has considerable bandwidth to work with. I'm curious why there are so many redirects and dead links that are not detected. The crawler cannot detect certain types but it should identify most of the redirects and, certainly, the dead links. For example: [dch@traif ~]# wget --spider --force-html http://list-business.com/opt-in-list-systems --23:44:15-- http://list-business.com/opt-in-list-systems => `opt-in-list-systems' Resolving list-business.com... 216.235.79.13 Connecting to list-business.com|216.235.79.13|:80... connected. HTTP request sent, awaiting response... 302 Found Location: http://emailuniverse.com/ [following] --23:44:15…

Is this abuse??? Well, I actually am not sure but one and the same PAGE of a site is listed in two different categories. The categories are: http://dmoz.org/Society/Issues/Fraud/Internet/ and http://dmoz.org/Society/Issues/Fraud/ The page is http://www.womenrussia.com/blacklist.htm I really am not sure whether it is abuse, but still it seems strange. And besides different pages of this site is listed 7(!!!) times in different categories. Just see http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=womenrussia Thanks a lot!

Hi, I have been trying to get my site listed at http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Gambling/Sports/Tipping_and_Handicapping/Soccer/ for many years. My site is a real authority in that field, but I have seen that not only is my site not listed, generally there has been hardly any activity in that category for a very long time, so the editor is obviously completely inactive. I have tried to write to him via dmoz's send-message-tool: http://www.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/send.cgi?toeditor=sgvictor but I get a 502 proxy error (I tried it several times during the last 6 months) so that one would be a good fix too by the way. But my question is, when will dmoz finally remove an …

Hi there, Id like to highlight the poor quality of the directory listings in the DMOZ section: Business > Arts and Entertainment > Photography > Photographers > Wedding and Events > Oceania > Australia > New South Wales There are several sites that are either: -not actually in NSW (a state of Australia) -not wedding or events photographers at all -not recent eg one site hasn't been updated since 2002 Worse, one site is a fake directory site with google adwords links. It makes me quite angry when I try and list my legitimate NSW-based wedding photography site in DMOZ and it gets rejected. Is someone actually editing this category? …

You may recall I posted a long thread in the now defunct site status check forum a year ago, almost to the day. At any rate, without mentioning specific domain names, and without mentioning my domain or asking for a "status update"... Would it be a quality control issue, if a site, very similar to mine and many others, that has only been up for about 7 days, and has very little content for the category it's in... is suddenly accepted? And several others that have been doing the very same thing for 4 to 5+ years, are not? It looks very suspicious that they are also listed in about 20-30 other categories, which may be justifiable, I didn't look at all those. I'm …

After 1 year our site was finally listed, which is great but I feel it is kind of being tucked away and perhaps hidden. The reason I feel this way is because they put the site name broken up so it doesnt make sense, placed the description in a different language when it is in English on the site and to add insult to injury the editor used a domain alias instead of the actual domain that the link goes to for the listing. Is there anyway to correct this and perhaps get the right link, title and description and possibly the category it was submitted too instead of 1 off to it's little lonesome?

I have noticed that a site similar has 17 entries in the DMOZ. Some seem to be in categories that overlap. Is this spamming or normal listings?

Can someone please take a look at http://search.dmoz.org/cgi-bin/search?search=allcarpictures.com - 32 listings of a site that appears to have very little real content but a determination to make me download some software in order to use it - instinct tells me spyware. oneeye (former crap site basher)

My boss recently mentioned that he would like the description of our publication, which appears on google and other search engines, to be changed. Currently, it is a somewhat inaccurate and generally "non-eloquent" description. After surfing the internet a bit, I learned that I must be an editor with the open directory project/resource zone to do this; additionally, this service (the ability to request an edit or sign up to be an editor) is temporarily unavailable. In an attempt to be on the ball, could someone let me know how I would go about getting our description changed without becoming a directory editor myself? Our URL is <url removed> We are catego…

I asked this question in another thread, but I think that it would be more appropriately posted here. Suppose that someone else was submitting my site from time to time in other categories... This effectively takes me off of one list and puts me at the bottom of another. If someone were to keep doing this about every month, then they pretty much have maliciously prevented me from ever getting listed in DMOZ. Is there any safeguard against that?

I don't want to report an abuse without knowing exactly (in basic English) whether the following is an abuse. There is a website listed in dmoz that is (for example) http://www.mywebsite.co.uk There is another 2 web addresses, one (again examples) is http://www.thatwebsite.co.uk and the other is http://www.anotherwebsiter.co.uk http://www.thatwebsite.co.uk has 1 page with basic info (good for search engines) that after a few seconds goes to http://www.mywebsite.co.uk http://www.anotherwebsite.co.uk has some products but also links to http://www.mywebsite.co.uk...the products in http://www.anotherwebsite.co.uk are a subset of the products from http://www.myweb…

Hello, I was recently checking on my listing in the ODP, I ran some keyword searches and my site was listed in a very good position plus it was shown to be in the directory '/Shopping/Jewelry/Watches/Replicas/'. The domain is milleniumreplicawatches.com. I have resubmitted it because i believe it was taken out for being down, there was a hosting issue and while in Europe i didn't know till I returned. Since it is still being listed as in the directory and coming up with the search 'replica watches' does it still need to go through the editorial process? I assume it does but since it's been in ODP and has not changed other than some minor content can I expect to see it ba…
