Affiliate site breaks all the rules and gets in!

The following website: http://www.queerposters.com is listed in the google directory under: http://directory.google.com/Top/Shopping/Niche/Gay,_Lesbian,_and_Bisexual/ Now I know the google directory results come from dmoz or am I mistaken? This site is purely an affiliate site - has hidden black text and links at the bottom of the pages and has pages and pages of nothing - yet it has a huge pagerank and is in the directory - how on earth did this site get where it is

Hello everyone, I have been wondering how to establish the credibility of a website/domain? As a SysAdmin, I've seen what a good designer can do with minimal data from a client... My walk-though ODP shows, listing of higher credibility websites - ones with an equally strong offline presence, as online. Looking for suggestions how to evaluate a presentation before accepting the information provided or purchasing a product / service....

Editor adds his own site but what about sites like mine and other sites that added their links before him? I was there as dmoz started in the late 90s and over time things have degraded. It's hard to be an editor...you have your own life work and then you need to contribute some of your time to add/decline new sites to a category. I understand it's hard...that's why some editors ignore a category for years. In my opinion, if an editor does not do work for 6 months they should be dropped. That's not my issue though...my issue is when a competitor signs up for a category and adds his own site ahead of others. I added my site with no promotional language, keyword stu…

Hello I wonder if anyone can help direct me? If a site description in a category shows something different to the entry in the index (i.e. when you search on the domain name the index holds a different description and category to the directory listing), how is this fixed? If a defamatory entry is removed from a category but remains in the index (when a more accurate category listing exists), how is this fixed? I understand that the forum charter says: "It's in plain sight before you enter this forum: Generic discussion on types of abuse with no mention of specific URLs, editors, or categories. Specific cases will not be handled here. Please report them to …

Two URLs, Very similar content. Acceptable by ODP?

If a company has two different sites with almost identical content, would ODP accept both URLs? I noticed that both www.rival.on.ca and www.rivallift.com have been accept in ODP and both have been developed by the same company and are really selling the same stuff. Actually they own other domains such as http://www.rivaltransfersystems.com and http://www.rivalinventory.com/

Dear Editors, I would like to know why some reports are looked at while others receive no reply or attention. In addition, a friend of mine referred me to this forum and was told to take a look at several listings in the gambling category. I discovered the same things he discovered, so I would also like to know why your metas dont go ahead and do a proper cleanup. Sites in the gambling category change at a very rapid pace, so certain links have changed as well, in addition to certain sites having numerous deeplinks that don't quite fit the model of being exceptions to the rule because of special, unique content. This indicates that either the editors are 1) not awar…

I was going to report something under Society: Religion and Spirituality: Esoteric and Occult: Chats and Forums and on the report page, this comes up --> There is a site under chats & forums that seems to be a spring board for selling furniture, rather then something Esoteric_and_Occult. This is not a yahoo issue, it's a dmoz issue...correct? I've no clue if it' breaks the rules of YAHOO (I can't stand their groups system set up, and find it mind boggling why there are so many submissions for them).

I reported a clear-cut case of abuse where the meta willfully and maliciously hurt the business interests of a company without justification. The meta manufactured wrongful and hateful accusations to aid her business interests with editors in the categories. Just a cursory view substantiates the situation. Quite clearly she was protecting editors in the categories who already had multiple domains and pages throughout DMOZ. After doing a thorough investigation to document the matter I submitted it to the public abuse system and received a tracking ID. Ten minutes later I decided to enter the tracking ID into the system. The response was matter resolved and we can’t giv…

Hi, I was wondering if someone could shed some light on my situation. My site has been list on Dmoz for over a couple of years and i have just notice that our listing has been removed? I would like to understand why this would happen? As the purpose of the site has not change only that we have made it more user friendly with better navigation and features. <URL deleted> It worries me to read in the quality control forum that sites are being remove in mass without being validated is this true? Regards, Matthew (very concerned)

not sure where to report this, but i figured it could fit abuse cause editor probably misrepresented him/herself i was just going through category Top: World: Srpski and visited pages such as http://dmoz.org/cgi-bin/add.cgi?where=World/Srpski/Kompjuteri http://dmoz.org/cgi-bin/apply.cgi?where=World/Srpski/Kompjuteri and text on those pages is definitively not in serbian, but croatian, which is a different dialect, and not even people of serbian heritage from croatia speak like that. I would consider this a HUGE blunder, IF the goal of this section is to cater to serbian visitors. And to top it off, those pages are FULL of spelling errors (in either dialect …

I've been writing/rewritig my first website for 3 months and finally put it up last Monday, tweaked it on Tuesday, submitted it to DMOZ on Wednesday and was listed by Friday! Ok so perhaps I was lucky enough to submit it at the right time (though I think the editor for the West Sussex/Bognor Regis category is quite active) but the speed means that the editor thought it was good enough to review immediately - what a compliment! I am still on a high. You have made me very happy John

Good Day. From 21 sites presented in this section http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/Ukraine/Arts_and_Entertainment/, 2 web-sites with different names of domains have absolutely identical maintenance, that is, on 2 different domain names there is the same information, from the same company. {:http://meet-ukraine.com/:} {:http://artmam.com/:} From the same company in this category presented ADULT site: {:http://east-erotic-portal.com:} Trying to find in thematic section of Dmoz a site that is interesting to us - for several times we get on the same sites which are listed above... As far as I know, it contradicts rules of Dmoz. It would be desirable, that thi…

Please let me know if this would be, else where, an appropriate place to discuss an SEO company who's falsly advertising the ability to "get around" DMOZ and misleading prospective clients. I emailed them based on their claims, and to put it midly, they stepped all over it. Unethical practices by such scam artists takes away from the hard work of DMOZ and sites legitimately listed there IMO. Thanks in advance for your time! w®m

I had submitted an update to our description last week after noticing Google was using the inaccurate DMOZ description for our company. Today I noticed there was no editor listed for the category we're in so I attempted to contact the editor one level above - his contact page returned an error message. I went another level above that editor and sent a note asking if he could help. Two hours later I notice our site has been removed from DMOZ. This jogged my memory, I remember now the diatribe I received in an email from this same editor when I contacted him back in 2006 because our site had been submitted eight months earlier and was never listed. It was a nice li…
