  1. There are a couple more here that have requested the change if appropriate. Specifically keygolf and coolmicro who's editor names appear to be the same.
  2. amgiers, There is no application pending for this category. Once you apply for a category you should recieve an auto respond email to which you MUST reply. This confirms your email address and adds the application to the queue to be looked at by a Meta for approval. If you don't reply, the application will not be available for review. Perchance you haven't replied?
  3. You might like to check out a few tips here and even more here . Once an application is rejected, it is "gone"; so there is no reconsideration of that particular app. However, using the tips linked above, feel free to reapply.
  4. AhmedF, Let us know if it won't let you reapply. If that's the case, you're old app is "there" but cannot be "seen". We'll have to notify staff to delete it and then you could reapply.
  5. Hi Igor, Thanks for pointing that out. It has been corrected.
  6. Hi, Your site is now relisted in Shopping/Vehicles/Watercraft/Parts_and_Accessories/Engines_Drives,_Propellers/ Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
  7. Your idea isn't necessarily a bad one. It's actually pretty interesting to me, as my RL job is 100% mathematical probabilities and equations. But as others have already posted, it would take time to set parameters and assumptions for the many variables involved; add to that the programming time. I'd really rather see our IT staff working on better ways for us to get sites listed faster than produce some guesstimate of how long it "might" take a site to get listed.
  8. FTR, @yahoo.com as an email address is not grounds for auto rejection of new apps. If it was, I wouldn't have been accepted.
  9. Ahhh. http://dmoz.org/Sports/Soccer/UEFA/ is a Sports category. The Sports branch of the directory is considered a topical branch and not a regional branch. That means that the ontology of the categories within it should reflect the Sport, ie Soccer, and not (in this example) the UK. To get into it a bit more, there is no UK soccer. There is Soccer in England and Scotland and all the other countries listed under UEFA, but there is no UK soccer and there is no governing body of UK soccer. That is why there is no UK subcat with the countries below it. However, in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Recreation_and_Sports/Sports/Football/ which is the Regional branch, I think you will see the breakdown you proposed.
  10. <For example, instead of having 'scottish' and 'english' categories under soccer, these might be better placed under an umbrella 'united kingdom' cat, with 'scottish' and 'english' forming subcategories.> Exactly what categories are you referencing? I couldn't find any Scottish subcats under Soccer. Or are you referring to this cat? http://dmoz.org/Sports/Soccer/UEFA/
  11. Re: lizards with growing noses <As for your "very good suggestions-but..." insincere double speak--anyone with a little technical literacy and common sense is not going to be fooled by this "just to difficult" cop-out.> which seems to be a reply to jordancpeterson's post... IT support and projects for the directory are prioritized much as any major business or large company. As our main purpose here is to grow the directory for the user, IT projects, in turn, are weighted by how these projects help to meet that goal. Each suggested improvement has to "get in line" and be measured with the others waiting there. With the number of active editors with "good ideas" constantly suggesting changes and ways to improve the process and efficiencies, you might imagine the size of this list. You've presented your case to people who can take that information back and make a proposal for change. Some of them have agreed with you and it is up to them to formalize those suggestions if they wish. I think you've misinterpreted jordan's comment to be a sort of "we can't get there from here" kind of response when that wasn't what he meant at all.
  12. Hi kiyotei, When you apply to be an editor the system automatically sents out an email to the address you provide in your application. That email instructs you to reply. That way the directory knows it's a valid email address. If you did not reply to this email for several weeks, your application was never placed in the queue to review because your email address hadn't been authenticated by the system. I'm not sure how long unauthenticated apps stay in the queue waiting for a reply. But since you've already recieved information that your authentication ticket couldn't be found, my suggestion would be to apply again and to check your email a bit more often. I'd expect the system email to be sent to you for verification within 24 hours (maybe even immediately).
  13. Re: Are SEO practioners not welcomed as editors? As a reminder to all, editors and members alike, from the guidelines of this board: "Please remember that you are expected to be courteous and polite in all your communications. Flames, slanderous/offensive comments and advertising is strictly forbidden. Editors should in addition pay attention to the section below related to editor specific codes of conduct, which are based on the ODP editor guidelines." The keywords here are "all communications". Also, editors take note that these guidelines are based on the official ODP editor guidelines for communications and codes of conduct.
