Status request for http://www.candybardesigns.com
old_crone replied to a topic in Site Submission Status
Re: Status request for http://www.candybardesigns. I see, so in truth you don't care about the ODP or what it's doing or not doing. You only care about Google's page rank and somehow the ODP is being placed in the position of being responsible for your sites ranking, or lack of it, on Google. And they are supposed to believe that listing your site, and the thousands just like it, will help their directory to better serve the consumer when your only concern is how your site will fare on Google? If you want consistency, then offer up the inconsistencies, I'm sure it will be taken care of asap. If you don't want to be a part of the solution, then you have no real complaint, or better said, a voice without the drive toward action can not be heard. But you don't really care about the ODP's inconsistencies, do you? If they happily listed your site you would go off and watch your Google rank increase and forget all about the ODP's inconsistencies, right? -
Status request for http://www.candybardesigns.com

Re: Status request for http://www.candybardesigns. I'm curious to know why you think it would serve ODP users to have hundreds of sites selling the same product listed in the same category? And, would you really like to be number 450 in a long list of Cherubs-n-Chocolates distributors? Or if they were listed by location, how is that different than the consumer finding you from the company's site? -
I would have preferred 7 out of 7 but what-the-heck, I hear that perfection is over-rated. Guess I will never know for sure. And, you're welcome.

Status of http://www.candlegalaxy.com submission.
old_crone replied to a topic in Site Submission Status
Re: Status of http://www.candlegalaxy.com submissi Different business name, same owner. It's amazing that you would come in here and deny the relationship of these sites. Heck, they even look alike, sheesh! -
Oops, you're right, http://www.jflazartigue.com/ does have a shopping cart called a shopping bag. They used to use their shopping bag for the free samples they offer. Guess they changed

In http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Beauty/Hair_Care/ the sites below do not sell their professional products online. http://www.uans.com/ http://www.scrupleshaircare.com/ http://www.lisapusa.com/ http://www.4alterna.com/ Also in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Beauty/Hair_Care/Shampoo_and_Conditioner/ the sites below do not sell their prfessional products online. http://dwp.bigplanet.com/allegretticolor http://www.jflazartigue.com/ Both of the above have beauty supply distributors that sell to professionals only. I don't think they belong in a regular shopping category but I'm not sure about the ODP guidelines. Just thought I'd bring it up incase someone wanted to look the cats over. This on has no content = http://www.color105.com/ This one is dns for me = http://www.biosynthesis.com/ And this one http://www.thefrizz.com/ is basically a doorway to http://www.sunsethair.com/ (same owner) which is listed in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Beauty/Hair_Care/Shampoo_and_Conditioner/ Cheers~

Its not the links that the editor was referring to, it the phrase "Take Four: Blast into hyperspace on Star Tours, a fast-paced simulator that will take you on a virtual space adventure you'll never forget." which is on your site and on the links he provided. All it means is that your content (at least on the page the editor viewed) is not unique by definition.
-
If I were you I'd wait until I did understand what hutcheson is saying before wasting everyone's time, yours and the editors who may happen across your submissions. Having looked at the site, my guess is that even the main URL will not get listed, let alone every sub-page. But hey, the choice is yours, though I think asking for clarity might be the thing to do before submitting more links from this site.

Re: Site was listed for 2 years then removed yeste Since no one mentioned that the links transfer the user to a http://angelfire.com/ site, thought I would. At least the links I dared to open did. Dealing with third party cookies and multiple popups doesn't offer a friendly atmosphere. I gave up after looking at two of the links.

Re: Editor tries to claim $1000 reward That piece of wood was too wet to do anything except let off a lot of smokey hot air. You could have at least found a category that sold something to fuel the fire with. The original issue was about unique content regarding affiliate/MLM/partners/distributor sites selling the same products. In my opinion it looks like the standard hype site, the kind I stay as far away from as possible. And it looks nothing like a standard e-shop unless you think hype is a standard one strives towards. Just for clarity, I'm not an ODP editor and I'm not putting the owner of this site down. I'm sure he has worked very hard on his site but it looks like he has taken some of the Internet marketing gurus bad advice when he designed his site. It looks like a MLM/affiliate/distributor site. Most of the products come from one company and that company sells their products on their own site for the same amount of money. Well, not exactly the same, they round out the amount. Instead of $24.95 they sell it for $25.00. Not enough of a difference to make it different. The real problem with sites like this one is that the content is the product. All the text on this site and sites like it are centered around the product, which leaves little to no room for unique content. There are many other things this owner could do to optimize his site other than getting frustrated over an ODP listing, or getting his site listed in any directory for that matter. His site could do just as well without an ODP listing. Of course, this is just my opinion and you know what they say about opinions ...

Re: Status of kp24,myadec, easeacold, beauticianS Once again, Redken is a "Professional" product line. Their site is not for selling their products, it's a information site and designed mainly for "Professionals" to use and place their salon location in the database if they use and sell Redken products. Only their haircare products are for resale (by salons), shampoos, conditioners, styling aids, everything else if for "Professional" use only! In case you haven't figured it out, I'm a professional in hair and beauty industry. Your analogy is faulty from a lack of knowledge in this area. These companies (yes, they are companies/corporations in their own right) are not doing what you are doing.

Re: Status of kp24,myadec, easeacold, beauticianS Aveda is a professional product line and nothing even remotely like Estee Lauder in any way, shape, or form. You can not purchase Aveda products from their site. You must be a professional Cosmetologist or salon distributor in order to sell their products and they have to attend classes to sell the product line to professionals. You can not link to their database so your users can purchase their product, no drop shipping, no online affiliate program. As far as the other products you have likened your situation to - none are a good analogy.

I think you submitted to the wrong category, which will only delay a listing for you. From the Guidelines for the shopping cats: Sites which are mainly advertising for a local store and that do not offer online shopping should be submitted to the appropriate Regional/ category. You might want to submit your site to the proper regional cat and request the other be removed to save everyone some time.

I would think that http://dmoz.org/Arts/Animation/Studios/Blue_Sky_Studios,_Inc./ was meant for sites about the studio and not just a list of the cartoons they publish. In my opinion none of these pages have enough content, unique or not, to warrant individual listings. All are easy enough to find from the main page should a user what the info offered. Just my two cents old crone

That statement is completely false and irresponsible. The ODP doesn't dictates what anyone can or can't do. It only dictates what can or can not be listed in their directory, of which they have every right to do.
-
They're all affiliates/distributors of http://www.smcorp.com/ and there are many, many, many more just like them.

Thanks for appeasing my curiosity. I've come across other multiple listings but none with this many in the past. Is this something you odp editors want to know about? Or would you prefer that I not post them here?

Is there a reason this site http://www.ihr.com/ gets 11 listings? Not that I care, just curious to know if this is an exception and why it would be one. http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Clinics_and_Services/North_America/United_States/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Directories/ http://dmoz.org/Science/Biology/Cryobiology/Sperm,_Ova,_Embryo_Storage/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Male/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Education/Emotional_Aspects/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Education/Testing_and_Diagnosis/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Conditions_and_Diseases/Endocrine_Disorders/Gonads/Polycystic_Ovarian_Syndrome/ http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Arizona/Localities/P/Phoenix/Health/Physicians/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Clinics_and_Services/North_America/United_States/Oregon/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Clinics_and_Services/North_America/United_States/Texas/ http://dmoz.org/Health/Reproductive_Health/Infertility/Clinics_and_Services/North_America/United_States/California/

I'm curious by nature and since I haven't looked I'm wondering if you can tell me if the AT&T site sells the same product(s)/service(s) as you do? If so, why should someone use you instead of AT&T?

I think this will be better for geocities abuse. Abuse Form Just give them one url where they ask for it and put the rest in the text box, or tell them how to find all the others.
-
Kristopher77 You really should concider reporting this to yahoo's geocities. They have rules against this kind of abuse.
