If you would prefer to have this domain listed instead of the one that is currently listed, just use the "Update URL" link on the top of the category page, and make the appropriate changes on the form. You may want to explain the reason why you are requesting the change. However, you will not get both sites listed; you'll just have to pick one.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that nothing has changed. Your site is still waiting in a fairly short queue.
-
Actually, it's in http://dmoz.org/Health/Medicine/Education/Medical_Schools/Admissions , where it is awaiting review in a pool of fewer than ten sites.

Re: http://Bosch-Power-Tool-Source.com/ Sorry about the delay in getting your information. There was a small glitch which has been fixed. Your site http://store.yahoo.com/boschpowertoolsource is now listed in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Tools/Woodworking .

Re: submission status for http://billfishingcostar Yes, that is the correct way to ask! Unfortunately, the status of your site is unchanged. It is still waiting with some other sites, and we still don't have many editors in that area of the directory. I wish I had better news for you.
-
We ask that you wait at least a month before checking the status of submissions. When you do, please re-use this thread, instead of starting a new one. Thanks!

Re: http://Bosch-Power-Tool-Source.com/ Your site is not in the queue. I am looking into the reason why it is no longer present. I should have more information soon.
-
He did in this thread. Please continue the discussion there. In the future, please reuse old threads, instead of starting a new one each time you ask about your site.
-
Your site is still awaiting review in that category, with around 20 other sites. Sorry I don't have better news.
-
Well, it works in Mozilla 1.1, not to mention Netscape 4.79... Anyhow, the site is awaiting review in that category in a pool of fewer than 80 other sites. Please feel free to post again to this thread to ask about the status in a month or so. [Added] Incidentally, I took it that your question about this URL meant that you would prefer to have it listed, rather than the mirror URL http://www.whirlpools-bathtubs-jacuzzi.com which was also submitted in the same category. That submission has been deleted.

[Edited to remove duplicate information. Darn that fast dfy ]

You're welcome. I see that you have re-submitted, so please feel free to check back in a month or so if your site has not been listed. If you do, please re-use this thread instead of starting a new one.

First of all, a clickable link, such as: http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Ohio/Localities/C/Columbus/Business_and_Economy/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/ would be nice. Second, you don't even have a business address on your site. As a result, you are unlikely to get a listing anywhere in the Regional/ branch. If we don't know where your business is located, how do we know where to put it? Regional/ is generally for sites that have a "real world" (i.e. brick and mortar) presence or are in some way focused on a given area. If you have a location where clients can meet with you, place the address on your site, and submit to the appropriate locality. If not (and even if you do), you can also apply for an appropriate category in a topical branch (Perhaps an appropriate subcategory of http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Designers/ )

And an easy way to find your old post is to click on your username on the side of your post, which takes you to your profile. Near the bottom of the page, you'll see a link titled "Show all user's posts". That way you don't have to wade through a long list of threads. You can also get to your profile by looking up your username in the "User List" (which has a link on the top of most pages on this site).

[Edited out duplicate information] That's twice in one day uzs980. You're just too quick for me!

[Edited out. Darn fast Uzs80. ]

Use the "Update URL" link on the top of the category page where it is listed. And to keep track of your original thread, you can either add it to your bookmarks/favorites, or just look up your name in the User List (there's a "Show All User's Posts" link at the bottom).

Thanks motsa. I must be having short-term memory loss or something. I thought these looked familiar, but I didn't remember why.

Hmmm. I may have misread the note. It says that the agency is already listed, not that specific URL. Are there any other domain names your agency owns and may have been listed under?

As hutcheson correctly notes, we ask that you provide us with the category in which you submitted. However, I am still able to tell you something about these sites. Your www.italiancookerycourse.com submission was deleted from Regional: Europe: Italy: Regions: Tuscany: Travel and Tourism and Business: Industries: Hospitality: Food Service: Culinary Institutes because it was deemed to be a subsite of the already listed http://www.casaombuto.com/ in the first case, and because it didn't meet the definition of "Culinary Institute" in the second case. A submission remains in the unreviewed queue of Recreation: Travel: Specialty Travel: Culinary with fewer than 100 other sites. That's all I can tell you without knowing where else you may have submitted. Your www.quality-villas.co.uk site will not be listed, as it is a mirror of the already listed http://www.quality-villas.com/ .

You were absolutely correct in submitting the update. Editor dfy was referring to the current description and the one in the update request not following the guidelines currently set forth in the ODP Editing Style Guidelines. Things like putting the company name in the description or using promotional language (e.g. calling a company a "leading" provider) are generally frowned upon. Also, descriptions should highlight the actual contents of the site, not just describe the business. However, we don't expect submitters to write perfect descriptions (though the better a submitted description is, the more likely an editor will understand what is important to include). In my experience, almost no submitted descriptions are actually guidelines-compliant. Even most editors take a while to learn the guidelines. You did nothing wrong, and an editor with experience in that area of the directory will process your update request, editing your description to make it compliant.

update status for http://www.thecomfortcompany.net
lachenm replied to a topic in Site Submission Status
Re: update status for http://www.thecomfortcompany All descriptions, whether initial submissions or update requests, are reviewed by editors, and may be changed to comply with ODP guidelines. In practice, I almost never see a submitted description that is guidelines-compliant, so the vast majority of descriptions are likely changed before they are added. We do try to take into account what the submitter would like to have in the description, but we have to work within the guidelines. As it is a directory, not a search engine, the ODP is not concerned with keywords in descriptions. Many search engines (such as Google) ignore the descriptions, so you're probably much better off worrying about the design of your own page (e.g. appropriate META tags) rather than being concerned with the ODP description. If you have any questions about how we edit descriptions, please see the ODP editing style guidelines. -
Thanks, totalxsive! I sometimes get lost over there in the UK, so I try to leave category suggestions to the local experts!

All of your dealerships are located in Maricopa County, so your submission was forwarded to http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Arizona/Counties/Maricopa/Business_and_Economy where it is in a very, very short queue (fewer than five sites). Incidentally, your submission of http://www.chapmanbmw.com/ in the same Arizona statewide category was removed, in favor of your submission awaiting review in a more appropriate category ( http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Arizona/Localities/S/Scottsdale/Business_and_Economy/Automotive/Sales ). The queue in this category is also very short, and contains another of your dealership sites (Bonus information, as you only submitted there yesterday, and were polite enough not to ask ).

Status request for http://www.candybardesigns.com
lachenm replied to a topic in Site Submission Status
Re: Status request for http://www.candybardesigns. >>I think (concerning your statement that a person should be able to leave satisfied without buying anything) that the editors should keep in mind when evaluating sites submitted to the shopping categories the purpose of a shopping category.<< Except that hutcheson's post was perhaps slightly unclear about one point: As I understand it, if the only shopping content on your site is of the affiliate/networking/MLM non-unique variety, it will not be accepted in a Shopping/ category. No exceptions. The Shopping/ category contains sites with unique shopping content; adding information to your site will not change the nature of the shopping content. The Shopping Category FAQ also explains this in slightly more detail. What hutcheson meant when he was explaining that you could "theoretically" add content to your site to make it listable, was that if you added enough information that your site could stand on its own as an informational site of some sort (not considering any shopping content), then it could be listed in an informational category -- but not a Shopping/ category. That's why he said that a person should be able to find the information, and leave satisfied without buying anything, in order for a site with that type of shopping content to be listable. If the main purpose of your site is to drive people to the non-unique shopping content, it wouldn't be eligible in an informational category, either. That's why hutcheson made the point that most informational sites start out as informational sites, and may add a few shopping links to pay the hosting fees, rather than starting out as shopping sites and adding a little information in order to get listed in the ODP. The webmasters of the latter type of sites are generally going to try to drive people to their sales. That's why they created the site, after all. Making a good informational site is a lot of work, and will probably only succeed if you really want to offer non-commercial information as a service to people -- as a completely separate consideration from your sales hopes. Ask yourself, "Would I have made this information available even if I didn't want to get my sales site listed?" That question, if answered honestly, is usually a pretty good guide to the focus of the site, which is what an editor in an informational category will be considering.
