OK, I'm officially confused. You're going to have to clarify yourself. The listing you appeared to be concerned about in this thread was the one in http://dmoz.org/Business/Business_Services/AudioVisual/Equipment/Audience_Response_Systems -- that listing no longer contains the word "wired". Your other listing, in New York, also does not contain the word "wired". So, where are you seeing "wired"? If you're looking at the entry that comes up in ODP search, the search index hasn't been updated since September. If you're looking at the Google directory page by mistake, we don't know when Google will update but your listing will get updated whenever they do. If it isn't either one of those two situations, can you give the URL of wherever it is you are seeing "wired"?
-
Have you actually looked at the category (at dmoz.org, not Google) lately? The word "wired" was removed from that description over a month ago. If you want other changes made, use the "Update URL" link at the top right of the page to submit your description update request.
-
It's not entirely different content, austtr. It's the exact same information for guests and potential guests of the Beaches on Wave Street hotel, just wrapped in a different site design. It will not be listed.
-
FYI: You're not going to find it seaching for "Brisbane Accommodation" even when the search index is updated.
-
They're no longer accepting new editors into that category ("become an editor" has been turned off). Why don't you try applying to edit your home town (or a subcategory of it) in Regional or some other small category instead?
-
It wasn't there. I've heard of other users having problems submitting using the AOL browser and/or IE (Netscape rarely has a problem). I went ahead and submitted you myself manually to unreviewed in that category. You're waiting with under 40 sites for review. It's been awhile since that category has been updated so you might be there awhile.
-
Many web hosting companies offer that type of thing for clients. It doesn't affect the listability of either the host or the hostee.
-
FYI: You should have reused your original thread to make this inquiry.
-
It's there, in a largish queue (over 200 sites). It could be awhile.

Hmm, looks like someone turned off the "become an editor" option for those categories.
-
Actually, if you recall, the category you're waiting in is under Antiques and Collectables -- http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Antiques_and_Collectibles/Varied_Merchandise/H to be specific. That category hasn't been updated since May 2002 but you're still there awaiting review.

Re: Correct Directory For Particular Medical Suppl I was having trouble with parts of dmoz.org being slow earlier today (around the same time that you had your problems) -- it seems to be better now. I don't have the computer power to load the queue for that category (it is over 1000 sites) to check to see if your submission made it. You may want to try submitting it one more time.
-
Re: Correct Directory For Particular Medical Suppl I would say that the category you mentioned is definitely not the place for your site. Somewhere under http://dmoz.org/Business/Healthcare/Products_and_Services/ strikes me as the right place.
-
You didn't need to resubmit -- the submission that went astray was moved into unreviewed in that category already. You're in the queue -- don't resubmit. It could take anywhere from a couple of days to a couple of months to get reviewed.
-
You sure that's where you submitted? I don't see you in the queue and there's no sign that your site has been touched by an editor. [edited to add: Oh, wait. You submitted windycityrentals.com, not www.windycityrentals.com. You must have gotten an error message about it not being able to verify your IP address when you submitted. It got sent to our catchall section where someone will sort it out to unreviewed in the appropriate category.]
-
As was mentioned, the only appropriate category of the two you submitted to is the Surrey one. That's where the site is currently awaiting review (the submission to Vancouver was deleted).

Someone using ODP as seed for a for-pay directory
motsa replied to steveb's topic in Using Directory Data
Re: Someone using ODP as seed for a for-pay direct The first time I got an email from them, they were charging an exhorbitant fee (several hundred dollars per year). After a half dozen or more emails from them, I wrote them back a really annoyed email telling them to never ever write me again (and telling them what I thought of them). Got a very pleasant email back (after I'd told them not to email me again) telling me they'd removed my listing as per my request -- and sure enough, they did. I don't think they plan on grabbing the RDF dump again. Their FAQs make it sound as though they collaborated with us to start out (as opposed to them taking a free download) -- makes them sound more important than they are. -
The search index hasn't been updated since late September due to technical difficulties.

You were listed a couple of weeks ago in http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Clothing/Accessories under the URL http://store.yahoo.com/handmadeleather .

Re: HELP PLEASE!! Please provide a clickable link to the category. Your site is awaiting review along with over 100 others. It looks like it's just been a little over a month since you submitted. I can't give you an ETA on when it might get reviewed.
-
[in response to query in other thread] Your site is waiting for review along with over 450 others. Could be awhile.
-
Please don't start a new thread to recheck on a site you've already asked about. See original thread.

herod, I sent you a reply to your private message to me on this subject. In short, personally, I would remove the status bar cloaking and perhaps spread the affiliate links out over the relevent directory pages, rather than having them all up front (where it looks at first glance as if the site is only there to serve those affiliate links). RE: ODP and affiliate sites, check out http://dmoz.org/guidelines/include.html#affiliate for further information.
-
Hmmm, let's see, all of the links on your main page (your "Top 10 Dating Sites") are affiliate links...cloaked affiliate links (which means you know very well that affiliate links aren't well liked). That would make me think twice about listing it.
