  1. Grumpus, your post wasn't deleted. Instead I moved it to the Submissions forum, because it was more appropriate there.
  2. AFAIK, the resource-zone server uses Central Standard Time (CST) which is -6 UTC.
  3. Re: Submission Status If this company doesn't have a storefront in Winnipeg, it won't get a Regional listing. I disagree. While this debate should be restricted to the internal ODP fora, I will say that considering Amazon.com is listed in the Seattle Shopping category this site should be no different.
  4. Generally applicants aren't accepted to categories that have more than 100 sites.
  5. Karl, Your submission hasn't been rejected, it's still waiting to be reviewed in Society/Relationship/Marriage, along with more than 100 other sites.

It looks like your store is purely an "online" type of affair, which is fine. However online stores go into the UK Shopping categories, not into their physical localities. If you do have a physical storefront on the Isle of Wight, or if you offer some type of services through a non-online medium, then the best way to get listed in the Isle of Wight category, is to put a physical address in your contact info.
  7. Re: struggle - perseverance - success ? It's pretty obvious that there is little more to say about the site in question. Along with that, since this thread has spawned behavior that has deteriorated to the point of name calling and other accusations, which is in violation of the Forum Guidelines, it is being closed.
  8. Re: struggle - perseverance - success ? Gypsy, since you persist in standing behind the "content" on your site, let's go page by page. Casino Articles: The first article, by Mark Pilarski, is ripped from Mark's Pilarski's official site. Same goes for the second article by Larry Edell, which was also ripped from Edell's site. So far no unique content. Casino Reviews, Casino Ratings, Bonus Deals, Merchandise, Casino Books: All affiliate content. Sportsbook, Online Bingo, Lotto Picks: Large portions of the content (even the reviews) are copied or mirrored elsewhere on the web. Even the section on Gambling Addiction is lifted verbatim from other sites - which is especially galling. * Everything found in your Casino Tips section, is not anything that can't be found elsewhere on the web. The rules of blackjack, can't be exactly called "unique content" Gaming Glossary and Jokes: About 80 sites have the exact same glossary and jokes as you do. Again gets a 0 for "unique content." Forums and Chat: This would be unique content, if it actually contained some posts, or vistors to the chatroom. Considering that both are deserted, again, it doesn't help you any. Quiz Again, your quizzes are ripped from Mark Pilarski's Page. Free Games All of your Free Games are offered by Roman Palace Casino, which is already appropriately listed in the directory. ****** In short you offer NO unique content. None whatsoever. Your site consists of useless affiliate junk, and content that is listed in tens, if not hundreds, of other sites on the web. I would also add, as a warning, that sites that infringe on intellectual property rights, are not to be listed as per the Editor Guidelines. [Edited in order to clarify concluding statement - apeuro].

I'm moving this thread to the Members Lounge. If any of our members know the answer to jackofallwebs' question, please feel free to enlighten us. /images/icons/smile.gif
  10. I noticed that the Official Forum Time hasn't been adjusted for daylight savings time. Would it be simply easier to adjust the "time offset" rather than to hope for a technical solution?
  11. Re: Correct categories and submission validation but since your site is effectively international, this doesn't apply . . . Not neccessarily. Since the site has a physical mailing address it could be listed in Regional/.../Ohio/Localities/C/Chesterland/Business_and_Economy/ at the discretion of the local editor.
  12. Re: struggle - perseverance !! success ? When I use the term “senior meta” ... Brian, there are meta editors, and non-meta editors. By default all meta editors are "senior editors," but among metas themselves there is no conception of seniority. Along with this seniority I assume would come more leniency, control, and trust when controlling categories . . . Senior editors are usually less leniant than new editors. This usually comes from their experience in sniffing out affiliate content, mirrors, redirects, etc, which new editors often overlook. BTW: No editor "controls" a category. We strongly discourage editors from thinking of their categories in possessive terms.
  13. Re: struggle - perseverance !! success ? There is no thing as a "senior meta editors" there are only "meta editors." I would also like to warn non-editors that it's very dangerous to rely on editor notes leaked to you. It's quite easy to misinterpret them based on snippets, or even in some cases without being able to view the notes of different sites referenced in the editor notes. There is a reason editor notes are restricted to the non-editing public. If you chose to ignore those reasons, then be forwarned that the conclusions you chose to draw from leaked editor notes could greatly hinder your ability to get listed.
  14. Re: If You See or Know of Something Wrong, Tell Us Gypsy, just so I don't raise your expectations - even if/when we come up with category guidelines for the Gambling category it will not be a document that specifies exactly what content a site has to contain in order to be listed. Rather it will be more general in character. The whole reason behind the ODP is that it is not mechanized, but rather at the whim of individual editors making individual editorial decisions. Therefore you will not see a Gambling category guidelines which will state unequivically "Site X must have Y amount of content, in relation to Z amount of affiliate links, in order to be listed." If that was to be our intent, we could easily program a computer to do it.
  15. Re: If You See or Know of Something Wrong, Tell Us The Gambling category has been/and will continue to receive a great deal of meta attention, due to the difficult nature of the category. We are trying to come up with standards that can be fairly applied across the whole category. Until that time, however, you can be sure abusive activity will be noticed immediately and corrected.
  16. Re: Problem getting listed: Portable MP3 Player Site You've done nothing wrong, however the site was declined a listing in the directory. Your site consists of affiliate links, and "content" copied straight from cnet.com. As such, since it offers no unique content, it will not be listed in the present form.
  17. Can we please try to ratchet down the tone here. There's no reason why we can't address each other in a constructive manner.
  18. The add link page points back to the ODP, as is required by the Attribution Tag which in turn is required to be displayed by the Free Use License. Although you can technically build a proprietary submission system on top of ODP data, you would still be required to have the "Add URL" link point back to DMOZ. Not to mention that all attempts to date have failed miserably - anyone remember Xoron formerly known as Wherewithal?
  19. It really depends to what extent the site was spammed, and what tactics the previous SEO used. Bribing, or attempting to bribe an editor, for example, will get a site banned forever. If you don't feel comfortable disclosing the URL(s) in public, PM me and I'll look into it for you.
  20. Dave, don't worry. There are two editors listed at the Business/Industries/Construction_and_Maintenance/ level. Besides all metas, editalls, and Top level Business editors can edit in that category.
  21. There are slightly more than 50 sites waiting to be reviewed at this moment, about average for a large Business category.
  22. Perhaps Business/Industries/Construction_and_Maintenance/Directories/United_States/?
  23. The changes you requested are not in compliance with the ODP Guidelines therefore your update request was denied. Repeating keywords from the category name, in the title and description, is against the guidelines, so you will not be successful in trying to stuff the keyword "Pet Portraits" in either.
  24. The search engine found on the ODP Homepage is very crude and rudimentary. It's only used by editors, as AOL/TW would much rather regular people use their advertising-laden portals such as Netscape.com or AOL Search. In short you shouldn't worry about the results from ODP Search.
  25. Todd, none of the URLs you provided have been reviewed yet. What category did you submit them to?
