You can certainly apply, but be aware that you need to be pretty fluent in English to be accepted to edit in the English part of the directory. If you would prefer to edit in a Russian language category then they are all under http://ch.dmoz.org/World/Russian/ . If you ask in the Becoming an Editor forum here, you will be able to get more specific advice from the meta editors who actually review and accept or decline applications.

Let me know whether I was the closest! On a serious note, the point is that if an editor decides to pass by that category tomorrow then it might be listed then, if no-one decides to pass by for six months then it'll take longer than six months. No way to tell...

Interesting how I came across this one - I've spent this afternoon watching a documentary on how govworks.com raised $50 million in the dot com boom and then crashed when it couldn't make it back in revenue. For any dot com entrepreneurs out there, the documentary StartUp.com is well worth a look if you can get hold of a copy.

I am regularly coming across sites in unreviewed queues with submission dates going back to spring or summer 2002 and occasionally find ones going back even further than that. Most people who submit their sites to the ODP consider that they have waited 'an eternity' but it's just not possible to get through all the submissions any quicker than we already do. It is a volunteer-edited directory after all. Getting accepted to edit is not difficult if: 1) you apply for an appropriately sized category 2) your motive for editing is clearly to contribute to the overall directory, not just to list your site 3) you have declared your affiliations honestly 4) you have read the guidelines thoroughly and 5) you are able to find three new sites and write guidelines-compliant titles and descriptions for them with no hype or spelling mistakes.

Your site has been deleted previously from the Business/Consumer_Goods_and_Services/Beauty category and has now also been deleted from another inappropriate category, Health/Beauty - a submission that you appear to have forgotten about. The site is appropriately listed in Shopping/Health/Beauty and it would be worthwhile avoiding making any further inappropriate submissions.

Yes, you're being hopeful! I don't quite get it - what's the point of your page? Are you trying to drive traffic to those domains or are you just putting up a links page for fun? If you're trying to drive traffic to the other domains then I'd concentrate on trying to get those listed if they're not already. If you're putting the page up just for fun then I can't see that it really matters much if the ODP doesn't list it. If you really really want to get it listed all the same then why not write some content about famous bearparks, people, places etc., maybe find some pictures, contact other Bearparks to get their contributions to your page etc. etc. - then it could be validly listed in the Personal Pages category.

What you really need is unique content rather than just a list of links. The ODP is itself a list of links so it doesn't tend to list other ones anywhere other than specific directory categories. Single page sites are also pretty rarely listed - even if your 200 words or so were unique content that's still not very much. I'd get developing the site so that it's got more to it by the time an editor comes to review it. At the moment I'd be surprised if it got listed in the Personal_Homepages category either.

If there's a more specific category that you'd be better suited for (e.g. Support_Groups) then you should resubmit there. I haven't extensively reviewed your site so it's up to you.

Why do you want to apply for that category if you can't think of any way to improve it? I don't know, but I'd guess that the unreviewed queues in the web designer categories are pretty frequently updated with new submissions. I can see three options available: 1) Google (or other SE) search - look harder than you already have, to pages further down the index than you already have. 2) Follow links between sites to find more web designers not yet listed in dmoz. 3) Apply for a different category, e.g. your home town, build up some editing experience, and then apply for this category at a later date when you're more skilled at finding quality sites.

Well, if you feel that the site is valid to be listed in its current category then leave it there. If you feel in addition that it can be listed in the Regional portion of the directory then the best thing to do is to submit it fresh to the Regional category using the Add URL link. Submitting an update URL request is most appropriate if you want the site to be moved from the Topical category to the Regional category, but not if you want to ask for a second listing, leaving the first one in place. If your site is only relevant to its Regional location, e.g. local services, local information only, then ask for it to be moved. If it is relevant to Topical, e.g. general information relevant to a wide audience, internet-based or international services and delivery, then leave it in Topical.

Try to find one with 20-50 sites maximum (including all subcategories) and avoid spammy areas of the directory like gambling, where you really need previous editing experience to spot the unlistable sites. Declare your affiliations fully and honestly - having affiliations is not counted against you. Give three new URLs that aren't already in the directory, ideally none of which from your own sites. Write concise hype and keyword-free titles and descriptions according to the guidelines. Spell check your entries in Word before submitting them. You're not expected to be perfect when you first start - there's an internal New Editors forum where you pick up how the system works.
