beebware replied to a topic in Site Submission Status
Your site is currently listed (since the 7th of November) in http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/Mississippi/Localities/M/Madison/Business_and_Economy/ . Your submission to http://dmoz.org/Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/Internet_Marketing/Marketing_Services/ was moved to the more appropriate category of http://dmoz.org/Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Promotion/Search_Engine_Optimization_Firms/M/ but the editor there did not feel that your site was appropriate for listing - therefore they rejected it. -
*cough* ODP not OPD *cough* <img src="/images/icons/grin.gif" alt="" />

Are you sure that is were you submitted? Your site is not in the unreviewed queue for that category, nor is there any indication that it was accepted OR rejected from any other category (so, it is conceivable that it could be awaiting review else where - but until an editor 'touches' it, no logs are made).

http://www.facial-amateur-cum-shots.com : Sites are not listed at the http://dmoz.org/Adult/Image_Galleries/Hardcore/Oral/Free/ level, but rather in the appropriate letter sub-category - in this case, it would probably be the letter F. However, checking both unreviewed queues shows no sign of your site and checking the site logs fails to show that the site was actually 'touched' by another editor. I'm actually having problems reaching your site myself (and the ODP server cannot reach it either): are you sure you've got the correct URL? http://granny-porn.sexyteens.cz : Once again http://dmoz.org/Adult/Image_Galleries/Older_Women/Free/ doesn't list sites at that level, but rather in the appropriate letter sub-category - in this case it would probably be G. Your site IS awaiting review in the G subcategory, along with around two dozen other sites. However, your site is currently unavailable to myself and to the ODP server - therefore an editor cannot review it.

Re: Finally... but... As donaldb said a bit further up >> It'll take as long as it takes <<. This forum is NOT here to speed up listings or modifications of listings. At the time your site was listed, it WAS called RBAuthority.com - and until an editor goes back into that categories, sees your update request and IF they accept it, that is how your site is going to stay listed. And anyway, it wouldn't do you much good at the moment to have the site name changed for the search results. If you look at the bottom of the search result page you'll see that it hasn't updated since 28th September - so you won't be in it anyway. (And, before you ask, staff @ ODP is aware of the huge delay in the search system updation and are working to fix it ASAP: there are rumours that they _may_ have eliminated the cause of the faults and hence are currently recompiling the search database - _if_ that is true, then you probably won't be in it anyway...)

It's still awaiting review along with around 50 other sites.

The ODP search system has been suffering technical problems the past couple of months due to problems with the RDF data generation system - staff technicians are aware of this and have made it their highest priority and hope to have it fix as soon as they can (fingers are crossed and the odds are looking for for it be be fixed within the next 7 days). Normally the ODP search facility is updated on a weekly basis. If you look at the bottom of the search results you'll see that "Search database last updated" time which is currently reading 28th September - if your site was added around or after this date, it will not show up until the next search database update.

Editors are accountable to other editors. If an editor (or a member of the public) see something wrong, it is investigated by other editors and if signs of abuse etc are shown, then senior editors (the "metas") do take action and the editor in question is removed. However, if your site URL starts with 'miles' - then it wasn't removed for "no reason", it was removed because it was an affiliate site and those are not allowed by our guidelines. If it wasn't that URL, let us know which one and we'll try (it isn't guaranteed) and tell you why it was removed. Sites are always removed for a specific reason - they are "dead" (404, domain hijacked etc), content has changed so it's no longer suitable, it's been discovered that they don't actually meet our guidelines (ie they were listed in error) etc etc.

The search results provided by Google include links to the Google Web Directory. Whilst the GWD comprises of the data available from the Open Directory Project at http://dmoz.org/ , we do not have any control over how Google (or any other 'down-stream' partner) uses the data. Google will probably fix this problem themselves in the next couple of weeks, but if you think it is important that that link is fixed ASAP, then Google's contact page is where you should be asking: not here, alas. Indeed, the fault is more with the Google search engine that the Google Web Directory itself... Personally, I wouldn't worry about the matter as Google will still have your site listed in their database (just as it probably is listed in the ODP's), and I'm sure the link-failure between Google Search and the GWD will correct itself next time Google updates (usually every month).

Re: Finally... but... Every page is labelled RBAuthority.com at the top and the mailing address is "RBAuthority"... Going back to our guidelines (actually on the same page as before, but a bit further up), it states that site titles are >> obvious and prominently displayed on the site. <<. RBAuthority.com is prominently displayed on the site where as I'm still trying to find any reference to "The Racquetball Authority" on the site...
-
Who said the ODP _editors_ disagreed with ZD Net? We listed your site as a whole, we just didn't think that certain sections (ie individual recipes) warranted being listed on their own.
-
Re: Finally... but... The ODP description guidelines state: >> Do not repeat the title of the site or sections of the category path name. << Since "Racquetball" is in the category name/path, it shouldn't be in the site title or description.

<insert advertisement> Don't forget we do have the Deutsch language forum for German speakers: allowing you to ask questions in your own native language and communicate with editors that are knowledgable about the World/Deutsch branch of the ODP. </end advertisement>

Would Health/Services/Health_Records_Services/ be more appropriate for your site? I don't often edit in the Health/ section and, despite my mother being a nurse, I don't know too much about the workings of the health sector (especially non-UK).

Your site is NOT awaiting review in Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Property/International/. Your site IS awaiting review in Regional/Europe/France/Business_and_Economy/Real_Estate/ with around 60 other sites. -
It's still awaiting review in that category with around half-a-dozen other sites.
-
Your site is still awaiting review in that category with less than a dozen other sites [correction: now less than half-a-dozen other sites] I'm currently trying to work my way through that unreviewed queue and move the sites to appropriate areas to speed up the review process, but unfortently, since your site instantly redirects to a secure site (HTTPS) I'm unable to review it at this point. Hopefully another editor will be along at somepoint to review your site. Sorry for the delay, but again, if you haven't heard anything about your site in a month's time - feel free to head back here.

It'll be better if you ask in our German language forum (as it's aimed at Germany speakers and submissions to World/Deutsch). Non-German editors are able to check your submission, but may not understand anything relating to it.

We have no record of your site being rejected for listing in the past and the site is currently displaying a "last submitted" date of "10/November/2002 20:02:17 GMT". A word of advice: the "default" setting used by editors to look at the unreviewed queue is "oldest first" and resubmissions "over-write" your old ones. Therefore, if an editor hasn't changed their settings and you re-submit, you MAY push your site to the "back" of the queue. There are currently between 150 and 200 sites awaiting review in that category. If your site hasn't been reviewed in say, a month to two months, please come back to THIS thread and ask for another status update. DO NOT: start a new thread about the same site and DO NOT ask every week/every other week (as this just removes editors from editing). Hope it helps!
-
We've got categories with 0 unreviewed and we've got (unfortently) categories with over 1,000 unreviewed (luckily they aren't too common). A dedicated editor could review all 30 in one "session", or they could find one interesting site there and spend a lot of time on it. A category could have been unmaintained for over a year (and the unreviewed queue building during that time), but the next day an editall (or "higher up editor") could pass by the category and review all the sites in a matter of hours. In otherwords, "average queue" and "how long waiting times" aren't really relevant to ODP.
-
Sorry, yes - your site is one of the 250 awaiting review. Like giz says, an editor can work through the category in anyway they like (and have it "ordered" anyway they like: although the "default ordering" is "oldest submission date first" - hence why we say that resubmitting your site MAY push it to the "back" of the queue).
-
There are currently around 250 sites awaiting review in that category - it could be a couple of months before your site is reviewed. Sorry!

Nah, it's a play on words. "Senior" ODP editors are called metas and so "Zap Meta" sounds like something you should do to them... Or is it a Macromedia Flash game where you seek revenge on them for them not allowing you to edit category X/Y/Z... <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

Odd. The Internet Explorer error "Page Not Found" usually relates to the fact that your computer was unable to communicate with the remote server (in this case http://dmoz.org/ ). Have all 3 PCs been attached to the same ISP? (It could be a proxy issue - even if you don't have one set, your ISP could have a "seamless proxy"). Have you tried using Netscape, Mozilla or Opera (under heavy loads the ODP server can be slow to respond to CGI queries - and, hence, IE may time out: the others are a bit more accepting with overloaded servers). If you post with your URL and the category you submitted to, and editor will be able to check if your submission did, in fact, reach us. If you could post with a brief description of your set-up ("Internet Explorer 6 on Windows 2000 Professional using XYZ ISP") it may help us track down problems like this. We are aware that a number of people have experienced similar problems (usually they get a "Unable to determine your IP address" message - but their submission does reach us OK), but apart from the common factor of Internet Explorer (we don't even know which version), we've been unable to pinpoint exactly what's going wrong.

Your site is awaiting review in that category with around 40 other sites - there is no need to re-submit (in fact, if an editor has "sort by submission date" ordering turned on - resubmitting your site just pushes it to the "back" of the queue). I just happen to know that an ODP editor who is quite active on this forum is interested in Aviation, so he'll probably be popping over to that category shortly to try and clean some of the spam up and maybe list some sites <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" /> If your site hasn't been listed within a month, feel free to come back to THIS thread and ask again for a status update - do not start a new thread for the same site. Have you considered becoming an editor yourself? Whilst you may not be able to start off in Recreation/Aviation/Personal_Pages, you should be able to start off in your "locality" (ie your town/village under Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/ and move "up" to categories that more interest you...
