1. That category (including subcategories) has around 48 sites (the "recommended" maximum for new editors is around 30 sites - but that isn't a "fixed" rule), but it does a high level of unreviewed sites. I am also aware that the Games/Gambling categories attract a lot of spam, does have stricter guidelines than the rest of the ODP (see the gambling guidelines) and attracts editors that may not be applying for the "correct reasons". Hence it is unlikely that a new "unproven" editor is likely to be accepted for that category. Sorry. (oh, I take no part in the "approve new editors" scheme so all that isn't "advice", just my opinion/viewpoint)
2. Please provide a "clickable URL" path - for example: http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/ - to the category if you want a submission status. You can do this by cut'n'pasting the URL bar.
3. Re: adding to topic There is no problem to be sorted. Staff at ODP have delibertly put in the catch to try and block "bulk sumbitters" and spammers: unfortently, as with most things, there will be a number of "false positives" that the system catches - all this does is delay submissions for a couple of days. It used to be that if a submission "triggered" the "possible spammer - be wary" alert, then the submission was totally blocked and the submitter would have to send in the submission by email. What happened to those email submissions is not known (well, at least to me). At least now the submissions are being received by ODP correctly. Oh - no system needs your "ISP #" (it's actually IPA: Internet Protocol Address) to send out emails/passwords or for registration purposes. The ODP just has a security check on parts of the IPA which could trigger the alerts by accident (a "used to be common" method of accidentally triggering it used to be via certain proxy servers - but ODP staff have now built in "allowances" for that).
4. Re: Status of kp24,myadec, easeacold, beauticianS 2: www.easeacold.com.au Site is still awaiting review in that category with around half a dozen other sites. However, it is unlikely to be listed as it appears to be a "deeplink"/sub-site of http://www.pharmacare.com.au/ . 3: www.myadec.com.au Site is still awaiting review in http://dmoz.org/Health/Nutrition/Nutrients_in_Foods/Vitamins_and_Minerals/ with around 100 other sites. It is not in the unreviewed queue to the Shopping category. 4: www.beauticianssecret.com.au Site is NOT in the unreviewed queue to http://dmoz.org/Shopping/Health/Beauty/Skin_Care/ and is unlikely to be listed as an editor reviewing it's submission elsewhere in the directory noticed that it's a "deeplink"/sub-site of http://www.pharmacare.com.au/ . I advice you to read part of our guidelines.
5. Re: Status of kp24,myadec, easeacold, beauticianS *sigh* Please provide clickable category URL paths. Without knowing which category you submitted to, we can't give a status.
6. Re: Status of kp24,myadec, easeacold, beauticianS Your site is still awaiting review by an editor in that category ( http://dmoz.org/Health/Conditions_and_Diseases/Skin_Disorders/Head_Lice ) with less than a dozen other sites. I've updated the URL for you though. Please provide clickable category URL paths (like I have just done) for the other sites which you require submission status reports for.
7. Replied via private message: ========== The ODP adult category can be found under: [snip] whilst the Resource-Zone forum thread for asking for access to the Resource-Zone "Adult" forum can be found at http://www.resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=tes&Number=9186 . Hope it helps! =========
8. Your site is currently awaiting review in Business/Arts_and_Entertainment/Photography/Stock/Royalty_Free with less than 100 other sites.
9. Which category did you submit to? Please include it in the format http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/ - this way an editor can tell "at a glance" if they are able to give you a status update *PLUS* this forum will automagically make it a "clickable" URL which editors can click on. It is also helpful to provide site submission status requests in the format "was submitted a couple of weeks ago along with http://www.mailboxofficesupply.com/ " as then we can select the URL and do a "page search" on the URL easily (instead of having to do a 'Copy shortut/link destination'). Oh - we don't care if Google has or hasn't spidered a site (ditto whether or not Yahoo has or hasn't included your site - the ODP is not Google or Yahoo and if your site is listed or not listed on those makes no difference to whether we list your site or not)
10. >> Can we assume that our site has not yet been reviewed and still there's hope that it can be reviewed and indexed with ODP? << Yep, you can assume that as it's the truth . Once an editor reviews your site they can do one of three things: [*]Accept your site to that category [*]Move your site to a more appropriate category or [*]Reject your site as not being suitable for listing [/list:u] But, at the moment, your site is still awaiting an editor to cast their eye over it... >> What happened to our recent submission? << Pass. The last record of you submitting to that category was the 21st of June. If you submitted again and received the 'Unable to determine your IP' message, then your site may still be sitting in our 'Double-check/misplaced' queue and when an editor checks that queue (which is done on a 'several times a day basis') and moves your site to this unreviewed queue, then it will overwrite your previous submission. Of course, there is a slight chance that we may not have received your previous submission (around a month or so ago, the ODP was suffering from a couple of technical problems: the majority of which have now been sorted). >> Does it adversely affect our waiting status by pushing our previous submission further behind other newly submitted sites? << Ok, a bit of techy details follow (and, considering I'm slightly drunk at the point of typing means they may not make 100% sense ): Each category has its own "Unreviewed site queue". This is, by default, sorted in "oldest first" order (editors can change the sort order if they want). Newer submissions of the same URL usually overwrite the previous submission. Therefore, if you resubmit your site whilst it is still awaiting review AND an editor has 'Sort by submission' date enabled - then you will "push" your site to the "back of the queue". However, some editors prefer to sort by URL (myself included as it makes it easier to sport spam), or by submitted title - AND there is nothing stopping an editor looking at the unreviewed queue and just reviewing numbers 6, 13 and 23. All in all, the "idea" of an "unreviewed queue" of 30 sites can usually be likened to a hat full of "30 submission slips" - any of which can be picked out and sorted in any order. >> Would it help if we resubmit or submit to other category? << Probably not. An editor, seeing that your site is more appropriate to the category you have already submitted to, should move your submission to that category so a "local editor" can review it. (side: a "local editor" is an editor that decides to review that categories unreviewed queue - they could be the 'listed editor', an editor of a 'parent category', an editall or a meta editor). Therefore, apart from wasting an editors time, it wouldn't help at all. However, an editor could delete your site (especially if they are aware that you are 'queued for review' in another category) with the editors-only note "Not suitable for this category - already awaiting review in X/Y/Z category" (or similar). If a site attracts a lot of editor notes like this, then investigations will commence whether you are attempting to spam the directory: this is something we, for obvious reasons, are not in favour of. To restate our add URL notes: "Submit to the most appropriate category to your site". Submitting to other categories ("just because they have an editor" etc), will NOT help your site being listed and could even "hurt" your sites reputation in the ODP. Of course, most sites are "entitled" to a listing under the appropriate "topical" category (Arts, Entertainment, Society etc) AND the appropriate "regional" category (Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Leicestershire for example) - any other submissions should involve more than 10 minutes thought ("is my site really suitable for listing in this category? Does it provide sufficent information/content for listing here?"). I hope that answers all your questions (if it doesn't, post again and either someone else or myself, when I'm sober , will attempt to answer your queries).
11. We have a submission from you on the 21st of June sitting in that category with less than three dozen other sites. There is no record of your site being previously rejected or accepted.
12. Your site is awaiting review in that category with less than three dozen other sites. You only submitted on the 26th of November - not even a week ago. Please only ask for site submission statuses on a minimum of a MONTHLY basis.
13. It's now listed in that category. Congratulations!
14. It is awaiting review in that category with around 175 other sites.
15. If you tell us which category you submitted to.
16. Unfortently - it does (it may be because it is a 'third level' category, or it could just be that some submitters lack 'real intelligence'). IIRC, around a year ago when I was in 'that neck of the woods', there was a h--ll of a lot of spam: it doesn't look like it's changed much. Sorry! But your site will be reviewed in due course, and if it wasn't for those pesky spammers it might have been listed by now...
17. It was listed in the Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Scotland/Fife/St_Andrews/Travel_and_Tourism category on the 21st of October.
18. Re: http://www.nestingdollcollections.com It's still awaiting review in that category with less than two dozen other sites.
19. Re: Status req: http://www.rosaries.divine-mother. Basically, your site was rejected because it is a deeplink of http://www.divine-mother.com/ . Please do not submit things like product listings as they will not be listed.
20. It's still awaiting an editor to review it in that category - along with around a dozen other sites.
21. Unfortently, as long as they aren't breaking the terms of the ODP data licence they aren't doing anything illegal. The staff at the ODP are aware of people doing this (and, I believe, have consulted with Netscape lawyers regarding a few matters) but the third party (I'm guessing their name starts with 'topsi...') breaches the licence or claims something that isn't true - then we can't do a thing. Sorry.
22. If your site already appears on the public pages on the ODP, it WILL be included in the next search database update - no action is needed on your part. By sounds of things, your site was listed just after the category it is in was included in the database. If your French site has content worth listing, then please feel free to submit it for listing under the appropriate French category
23. Just think how much time we would save if we didn't have to delete under construction sites from the queues? And the amount of time we would save if people always submitted to the correct category. And didn't submit affiliate sites. And submitted decent titles and descriptions. And they at least gave instructions presented to them more than a brief glance. And... Is it little wonder how editors get frustrated? The waiting times for any category is from a few minutes to (possibly) years. That's as exact as we can be. We can say that "yours is the only site awaiting review" or "there are 1000 other sites in that category awaiting review" - but neither of those is an indication of time. It's entirely possible that the larger queue is reviewed first (as it may attract "higher-up" editors who want to 'zap' large queues), but as in the financial market "past performance is no indicator for future performance."
24. Your site is currently awaiting review in http://dmoz.org/World/Fran%e7ais/Commerce_et_%e9conomie/Arts_et_divertissements/Galeries_virtuelles/ (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE provide "click-able" URL paths) along with around a dozen other sites.
25. Basically, once you submit your site it goes into a category specific "unreviewed queue". There it stays until an editor comes along and reviews your site. The one of three things may happen: [*]Your site is listed in that category [*]Your site is moved to a moved to another, more appropriate, category for another editor to look at [*]Your site is rejected as not being suitable for listing (normally "Under construction" and "affiliate" sites) [/list:u] Until a site is listed, it WILL NOT appear "to the public" in the Open Directory Project. Your site is still waiting for an editor to look at it (and there are around 100 other sites in that queue for editors to look at). If your site has not been listed in a months or so time, please come back to THIS thread (do NOT start a new thread about the same site) and ask for another status update.
