Edward, I even registered to post and then realized that it was just trolling for an argument. This is the same old song that we've heard over and over. I hope that no one gets sucked into that vortex <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

Re: adding to topic I'm sure ZA causes a lot of the problems I have with reaching some sites. Even on this site I've never been able to use the option with the checkbox on the log in page that supposedly remembers your userid. I've tried that checkbox in various browsers, fiddled with settings in the browsers, in ZA, and in my router/firewall, but have never gotten it to work. I'm sure ZA is the culprit, but I just learn to live with it's quirks <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

You have a right to your opinion, but it's kind of wasted in this forum. One of the Guidelines of this forum actually does state "Discussion of the ways in which ODP runs itself" will not be discussed. I don't think that there is anyone, including our very talented systems person, who wouldn't like to see the system working at peak efficiency. But as has been stated before, it's being worked on, and it takes time. If you have a problem with how long it is taking then you may want to take your concerns to the administrators of the directory to see if you can convince them to put some more money in the budget next year for increased tech support <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" /> But in reference to the problem at hand, it's really not a problem for us. Sure we would like to have an updated search index, but the Open Directory Project is not a search engine, it's a directory. And what downstream users do with the data we provide is their business, not ours. Our job as volunteers is to add listings to this directory, and I think we're doing a pretty good job of that. If people are unhappy because they are not seeing their listings showing up in downstream search engines, it's really not our concern. I can understand your frustration, but these tech issues take time to solve. They truely are close to being resolved, but it's still being worked on. Everyone has to be patient <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

Re: amazing-hgh.com - help site not mlm This thread is sounding very familiar. Haven't we had this discussion before? http://www.resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=status&Number=4173

Hand you're all set <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

All I meant was that reinstatements of editors who were removed are very unlikely, and I don't know if you really want to spend the time persuing this when it's most likely not going to happen. Sorry if that line sounded inappropriate <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
-
This is done, and I'm going to close this thread and move us back to the other thread - Member to Editor II
-
Sorry, but when I say we do not discuss removals under any circumstances, I mean that in general, not just here. Please read the section about Account Removal. You can email staff@dmoz.org to appeal any decisions. Personally I would say that it's time to move on with your life and persue other interests.
-
Not really sure what you're looking for here. We don't discuss reasons for removal under any circumstances. If you feel you have been unfairly treated you can try to be reinstated or email ODP staff. See the Reinstatement section of the Guidelines for more information.

Nothing in the queue for that name or category. Did you receive and reply to the confirmation email?
-
There are actually quite a few Meta editors who spend time in the Science branch. These are the people who approve the applications, so it doesn't really matter that there are no editors close to that category. Your application is still in the queue, and I'm sure one of those Metas who specialize in that area will review it soon enough. It's just a matter of being patient <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
-
Actually, I would have said that the category was too big for a new editor. You need to find a smaller category where you can do some good, and gain experience. If you are interested in the Regional UK area why not look at the Financial Services or Business and Economy categories for the locality (city, town) where you live. Hope that helps a bit. I know it's sometimes frustrating to be rejected when there are things you see that need fixing, but if you start a bit smaller you'll be better off in the long run <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
-
That would probably be best. Make sure that you are using a valid email address so that you receive the confirmation email. I can't remember what happens though if you try to submit a new application with the same username and/or email address. The system may tell you that you already have an application pending. Someone else may be able to answer that question.
-
It's probably best not to start a new thread about the same site. Previous thread. Whichever category that this ends up in, it's still going to take some time to review as there are quite a few submissions waiting in both of the categories. I don't see a record showing that this URL was ever listed in the directory, so it must have been under a different URL.
-
I'm not seeing anything for that username or that category in the queue. Did you receive and reply to the confirmation email after you submitted your application?
-
Brendan, Without having seen the applicacation it's next to impossible to guess why it may have been rejected. But even the most basic rejection email lists a number of things that may have been the problem. [*]Incomplete application. Insufficient information has been provided in some fields including reason, affiliation and/or Sample URLs. [*]Improper spelling and grammar. [*]Sample URLs are inappropriate for the category which one has applied to edit. They may be too broad, too narrow, completely out of scope, poor quality, or in a language inappropriate for the category. All non-English sites are listed in the World category. Applications for World categories that include sites only in English will be denied. Likewise, applications for World categories that include sample URLs in languages other than the one appropriate for the applied category will be denied. [*]Not properly disclosing affiliations with websites that are, or have the potential of being, listed in the category. [*]Titles and descriptions of sample URLs (and other information provided) were subjective and promotional rather than unbiased and objective. ODP editors do not rank or write website reviews. ODP editors provide objective and unbiased descriptions of websites and their content. [*]Self-Promotion. Application which leads us to believe that the candidate is interested primarily in promoting his/her own sites or those with which the applicant is affiliated. The ODP is not a marketing tool, and should not be used to circumvent the site submission process. If this is an applicant's motivation for joining, then we ask him/her not to apply. Editors found to be inappropriately promoting their own site will be promptly removed. [/list:u] Items 2 and 3 are very often the reason for a rejection. Use a spell checker. Make sure that the URLs that you provide would actually be appropriate to the category you are looking to edit. You wouldn't believe how many times these basics are ignored <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" /> Take a look at the first thread in this forum and read through the listed documentation to gain some insight as to the requirements for becoming an editor. http://www.resource-zone.com/showflat.php?Cat=&Board=bemome&Number=9620 don

done and done <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />

I would recommend http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/Canada/British_Columbia/Localities/V/Vancouver/Business_and_Economy Lowest common denominator.
-
You are absolutely correct. I was quickly poking around the Sydney categories when I posted that message and totally missed the North Sydney category. This is why I normally stay out of Australian categories. Once I'm beyond the Canadian provinces I'm lost <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
-
You might want to consider also submitting to the Sydney Web Design and Development category. It is allowed to be listed in a topical and a Regional category if the site has a regional presence. Because of the recent reorganization in the Designer categories, we're still wading through the backlog of sites that need to be reviewed. It's a slow process so it may be a while before you see your site in Full_Service/C
-
The only one I could find was www.monteverdetours.com At the moment it is waiting for review in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Central_America/Costa_Rica/Provinces/Puntarenas/Localities/Monteverde/Business_and_Economy/Travel_Services/Tour_Operators/ added The Travel_Services category is actually in the wrong place so I'm having it moved under Travel_and_Tourism

Sure thing <img src="/images/icons/smile.gif" alt="" />
