1. Please read what we have been saying, the servers are right at this moment being upgraded. Already two new servers have been added for a couple internal features, and at the moment we are waiting for the delivery of several more new servers. Once they have arrived, been installed, and tested, all of the current problems with speed, access, and 500 errors should be resolved. >> Er, Stealth Lobbying? The sort no-one can see? << In a word, yes. You see ODP has internal forums, we have been complaining there for ages. Now Netscape is doing what they need to do to fix the problem, they even hired another engineer (who is currently being trained). There is nothing to complain about at the moment, we just have to be patient and let them do their job installing the new hardware. >> Why can't 50,000 editors << We don't actually have 50,000 editors. That number is the total editors ever. The amount of editors who have a current login and at least one category is closer to 7,000. The number who edit actively and participate in the community is probably closer to 500 (which may explain why it takes so long to get sites listed sometimes...)
2. What did you pick for an editor name/category?
3. Re: Editor Priveleges Revoked - with no explanatio There was indeed explination given to him. Your posts in the internal forums are being answered, no need to discuss this here was well.
4. The advice above is good. You need to learn how to be an editor first, the category including the unreviewed is too large.
5. Editors do not have to reply to any submittor e-mails if they don't want to. As volunteers they are under no obligations to do anything that is not in the guidelines, and the guidelines do not require them to reply to submittor feedback. It's up to them so there is nothing for a meta to do in this case. We can look into your site and tell you if the description is correct though. What is the URL?
6. Re: Editors Hoarding Categories are ruining the OD We gave different, but agreeing replies, that's a good thing.
7. A listed editor denotes the level at which that editor can edit. If all editors who could edit her categories where listed it would be a list of over 200, maybe 300 people. Just isn't practical. And yes, sometimes submitters have to wait. ODP is not here for webmasters, it's here for users and as such there is more to editing than unreviewed.
8. Welcome to ODP, be sure to read the guidelines and I hope you enjoy it.
9. Just because she is the listed editor in those categories doesn't mean that she's the only editor for them. There are editors listed in sub-categories, in higher categories, and editors who can edit in every category (editalls). So there is nothing wrong with her having those categories, it just means she can edit them if she so desires... so can a whole lot of people. As for the amount of unreviewed.. well there is over 1 million unreviewed sites in the directory in total. That's a lot and I would never blame any single editor for not doing enough. Every one of us is a volunteer, in other words no one is expected to edit, rather they are given the opportunity too and can do as much as they like. To get unreviewed down you should actually be happy that some editors like her are prolific enough to be accepted into these categories to help as much as they can with the backlog.
10. Http://dmoz.org/Regional/North_America/United_States/California/Localities/F/Fontana/Business_and_Economy was the category. I've listed you.
11. Re: Sorry, I apologize Actually you posted in three places and e-mailed it to me... trust me, once would have been enough.
12. Please stop e-mailing me all of your posts. Thanks
13. The backlog in the Recreation category is huge. You submitted there on Sept. 24th, 2002 and wasn't the oldest I don't think. I've added you. You gave a pretty good description, I didn't have to change it much, ever thought of applying to be an editor somewhere?
14. We're aware of the server problems. Netscape is working to correct the problem in time. If you are having major issues accessing a category I'd suggest trying Google's version of our directory, it's faster.
15. Indeed the largest problem is that there is only one meta (the people that review appilcations) that can read hebrew. You'll either have to wait for her, or someone willing to take a chance. Hopefull it won't be too much longer.
