Okay forget that... your application was way too good to ignore. I edit in that area too (a few levels up) and it's in such huge need of help. Welcome to ODP. Please read the submission information for your category and the three sister web design categories. There was a re-org and we dumped all the unreviewed in Basic Service, so you'll run into sites that need to be moved to other types of web design (full service, freelance, dynamic)... blah blah blah.. if you have any questions feel free to contact me. (also metas jazz and donaldb edit there too and will be pleased to help you)

You applied yesterday, yes your application is still pending. There are hundreds of pending applications, sometimes you can expect to wait up to about a month. Which is pretty slow, I know, but applications are reviewed by only a handful of very experienced editors called "metas" and staff. We're volunteers too so there is only so much we can do about the long-ish wait times. Patience! Oh by the way, thank you thank you for actually giving sample URLs who's titles start with X... so many get that part wrong.

It's been flagged as a mirror of http://cheap-domain-name-registrar.com/ and deleted accordingly since mirrors (including ones that don't look alike but offer the same services from the same company) are not acceptable as per our guidelines. The above domain is listed in Computers/Internet/Domain_Names/C.

I've said this before, but I'll say it again. Though this information is good for an editor, but metas are not looking for perfect descriptions. We're looking for common sense, and some decent grammar and spelling skills (you don't have to be perfect everywhere (I know I'm not), but consider your application like a résumé, you spell check a résumé, so spell check your application too. Also put a period on the end of sentences [you'd be surprised how many people don't.]). We're looking for honest people who have the ability to learn how to edit well. You don't have to have perfect guideline compliant descriptions to be accepted at all.
-
Not really considered unless we notice and then it would be a positive not a negative usually. Also categories with a lot of unreviewed need help, so that would be a reason to get an editor not to reject one.
-
>> Since most of what you will be doing as an editor is writing Titles and Descriptions for websites belonging to other people, it is vitally important that you are able to do this to a very high standard, and to the ODP guidelines. << Well yes, as an editor decent descriptions good. But for a new editor application we are *not* looking for perfection. Mainly just potential and a little common sense. -- Editor applications are not saved, so I can't help explain why you were rejected.
-
I know, but there is nothing I can do, I can't even track down which meta handled the application. All the advice I can give is to fill out the application completely, be honest, read the guidelines for the descriptions, and check your spelling and grammer. We don't expect new editors to be perfect, we're just looking for honest people who have the potential to be good editors. Nope, just one. You can go out and search for sites to add on your own. Try the phone book, Google, Yahoo, and other search engines. We don't just list submitted sites, but add our own content too. Once you've gotten some experience you can apply for additional categories. There is also a category given to every editor called Bookmarks where you can pretty much do whatever editing you want.

This thread might help you too.

No, sorry it appears your applications has been rejected. There are no applications older than 2003 in the queue. Applications are not saved, so I can't give you any details on why your application was rejected, nor why you didn't receive notice. You're more than welcome to apply again. Try reading the editing guidelines, they may help: http://dmoz.org/guidelines/ Good luck, I hope things turn out better for you next time.

Re: DMOZ policies on advertising ? Additionally, all of ODP's policies are public. You can read them here: http://www.dmoz.org/guidelines/

Yes, they probably will be for "ahwile" too. I can't give you even a rough estimate of when the server issues will be resovled because no one really knows. I can tell you though that dmoz staff is in the process of adding servers to increase speed for ODPs needs into the future. Adding servers is a time consuming process of ordering, waiting for delivery, setting up and testing; it will be some time before ODP is back up to full speed again. Until then we're all suffering through timeouts. My mantra has become "patience patience...".

>> I was mysteriously kicked out << You resigned stating that you where an SEO and felt biased. Your request for reinstatement has been denied basically because we agree with you.
-
Done.
-
We do not reinstate editors who have been removed for abuse. We have a policy of not releasing detailed removal reasons, however, you abused your privilages and lied. You've been denied reinstatement three times, you will not be reinstated. I'd suggest moving onto a different hobby. If you want to continue editing there are other directories you may be interested in, zeal.com for example.

Weclome to ODP. Remember though going forward as an editor you don't have to be a professional to apply for a category. For example I've edited categories for my favourite TV shows and bands, I'm no expert there, I just have an interest. That's all you really need.
-
I'm not motsa, but no, the rejection of you application has nothing to do with your site. As far as I know it's still in unreviewed, I didn't touch it. There is also no "pecking" order. It's very random, some categories have more interest than others. In the area I am current editing (a non-english language) there are unreviewed from 2000.. yes they have waited 3 years, but there has been no editors in those categories in those 3 years, what can we do, not much. When we are relying on volunteers for expertise some areas just aren't as well represented than others. Often sites are not added in order of date either but sorted by other ways (alphabetical by title or URL usually). I'm sorry that it appears that we are untrusting but you need to try to see this situation from the perspective of someone who is trying to protect the reputation and quality of the directory. There are lot of people who join ODP for the wrong reasons (or try too), the less people we have to fire for those reasons and clean up after the better right? Motsa's idea of your hometown is a good one. I'd encourage you to apply there. Like I said, prove me wrong about you.
-
Thanks, though that thread doesn't effect my opinion or post in regards to his application. Unless I'm missing something?

Odd, I handled your application and I gave you very detailed feedback. The main theme of it was that we are looking for editors who are interested in improving and adding to the directory and not their site's listing. From the application it appears the latter was more important to you. Also, although the application asks for 2-3 URLs when you're applying with your own site as one of those URLs it's best to complete the other two URLs.. in fact it's best to just give your affiliation and then provide three other URLs in the rest of the application. We're very concerned with maintaining the quality of our listings. The first way we can do this is to be relatively cautious in who we give editor access too. You're site's content and it's URL (the 123 part) seriously give me the impression that you're concerned with making money and not on what may be best for the directory. Prove me wrong though. Apply with three unique URLs, heck, apply to a category you have no professional interest in. We need to be able to trust you, right now we can't. Good luck. [added] You're description skills were good by the way. Being honest about your affiliation was also good. Applying to something apart from vending machines might be an excellent idea for you, you could be a good editor.. and in time, with a good editing record there is nothing to say we wouldn't trust you to edit in vending machines in the future.

Already did it..

Editors are only allowed to have one editor name. Applications for new editor names will be rejected. Also editors who were previously removed for abuse will not be considered for reinstatement.
-
>> I can post my application here << That actually would help. You see applications are not saved, so besides the one meta who processed your application no one else can give you a reason as to why your application was rejected. If you have a copy of the application you can post it here, however you may be more comfortable in doing that privately. You may feel free to e-mail me at enarra-at-enarra-dot-com and I'll give you any advice I can. (I'm a meta, so I'm one of the folks who reviews these applications.)
-
According to one of your reinstatement requests, which I have seen, you do indeed know why you were removed. You will not be reinstated; we do not reinstate editors who are removed for abusing their position in the directory. Period.
-
Report the person to a meta editor, the above noted thread explains how. We will investigate the situation, if abuse is found we will take action of some sort. Could range from a warning, to total removal of editing privilages. We do not look lightly upon abuse situations. We control bias by asking for all affiliations and then treating those who lie to us strictly. Being an editor is a privilage, not a right, so if someone abuses the privilage it's swiftly taken away from them. There are a lot of editors though, and we can't watch all of them all the time, so tips like yours are very welcome.

Okay everyone above this post is done.
