Yup, it was there. Unless they provide a truly UK wide service, organisations such as yours are listed in their localities. In your case, that seems to be Leicester. The submission has now been moved to unreviewed in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/England/Leicestershire/Leicester/Business_and_Economy/ . The queue there is extremely short and the category has a very active editor.

Editor Application - Question Re: Affiliated Sites
jimnoble replied to a topic in Becoming an Editor
Congratulations Jay. Enjoy . -
As windharp said only a few days ago, "The URL of the submission was changed to http://www.yra.co.uk/ in the first go and awaits someone to review that entry now." That is still correct. Our editors are volunteers and only edit when they wish/are able to. Please don't assume that a discussion here guarantees faster action. The current position is that your site is about halfway down the queue for that category. I can't estimate how long it will be before we get to it. Please be patient.

Incidentally, http://www.dmoz.pl/ca/332235/Shopping/Photography/Digital/Accessories/www.digibattery.co.uk appears to be one of our downstream users showing older data.

I entirely agree with that and generally avoid helping would be queue jumpers individually. In this case though, a straight forward submission to the wrong cat took months to reach the right one's unrevs, where I found it sitting alongside a very recent duplicate submission and a few others. ..and yes, I did clear the rest of the queue .

You don't appear to ship outside the UK, so your site is now listed in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Consumer_Electronics/Batteries/ [Edit] but it can take a short while to appear on the public side.

"there are no benefits at all being an editor" Apart from the enormous satisfaction of doing a job worth doing and the comradeship of like minded editors .

My last response was somewhat terse. I had a clamour (I think that's the collective noun) of grandchildren waiting for me to take the dogs swimming. Whilst getting wet, I decided to do what totalxsive has already done in the meantime. So the site will be re-examined, but please don't take that as a promise that it'll be listed.

First of all, sorry for skipping over the 'for a friend' words. In my response, please change the person from you to s/he /images/icons/smile.gif. It's got a shopping cart, so Shopping would be the right place were it acceptable. I note from another forum that you are planning on applying to become an editor. I'm not involved in vetting would be editors but be truthful about your aspirations. Honesty is highly valued in ODP. Best of luck, Jim

It was declined on the grounds that you take orders for other people's products and don't have a warehouse of your own.
-
You submitted it to http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Financial_Services/Insurance/Motor/ on July 11th and it's still in the queue. I'm afraid I can't predict how long it'll be before it's looked at.

It would be good to get rid of the case study page. "Sorry, there currently isn't any case studies at this moment." implies that your site is still under construction. If you check out our submission policies at http://dmoz.org/add.html, you'll see that we don't list those.
-
It would be nice if submitters wrote guideline conforming descriptions that we could click straight in, but it's a pretty rare event. A poor description (in ODP terms) shouldn't be a bar to acceptance; it's just rewritten by the editor. (Plenty of other things are, as has been discussed in this forum at some length.) Just do the best you can, and we'll amend it if we need to /images/icons/smile.gif.

Re: Submission Status Well I've just checked around. - No editor has ever listed, moved or deleted http://www.griffinglasshouses.co.uk/ - It was not in the Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Home_and_Garden/Gardens/Structures/Greenhouses queue. - The above queue does contain a test submission which sombody made today to check that submissions to that cat are working. Maybe you submitted a slightly different url to a different cat. I've now added it to the queue, so you're on the first rung of the ladder. Whether or not it gets listed in that category, elsewhere or not at all will depend upon our normal editorial process. YHM Jim Noble

Hey Dave, welcome aboard. Enjoy.

Welcome back and enjoy your editing.

When submissions stand out from the crowd by having what appear to be guideline conforming titles and descriptions, I do have a terribly unfair habit of editing them first /images/icons/smile.gif. Other than that, I sort by url, kill the duplicates, sort by date and edit the oldest first.
-
Your site seems to have been listed in http://dmoz.org/Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Shopping/Health_and_Beauty/Vision/ quite recently.

An even temper, courtesy and rational behaviour are good too.

1. You might want to change the url in your profile. 2. You are now listed in Regional/Europe/United_Kingdom/Business_and_Economy/Computers/Software . 3. You are also dual listed in Bedford/B&E/Computers as permitted by the UK guidelines. 4. I'm a nice guy /images/icons/smile.gif.

When actually editing, a significant part of it is spent staring at the wall or solving a cryptic crossword while waiting for unoptimised graphics and Flash to download. Not to mention cool background music /images/icons/smile.gif.
