That's one heck of a clever idea (runs off to create a home-made version - Sorry!).

Re: Does being listed on yahoo help speed listing The more detail you can provide, the better. Gather convincing evidence, and present it in a clear manner. -
Agreed. By the way, are the unreviewed stats available to those who use the directory on their own sites?

Interesting problem here. BizRate clearly offers outstanding premium content of use to any surfer. MySimon, which offers a similar service, is listed twice in DMOZ and is described as such: "Useful international site that searches over 2,000 different online shops covering all kinds of products. Simply surf to a category, rather like a search engine, and enter the name of a product to be presented with a comparison list." It is cooled in Home: Consumer Information: Price Comparisons. BizRate appears in the search results because some of the businesses listed in DMOZ are proud of their BizRate rating: Cigars-cigars.com - A bizrate customer certified gold site with over 600 cigar varieties in stock. -- http://www.cigars-cigars.com Shopping: Tobacco: Cigars (1) Whole Health Discount Center - Wide selection of popular alternative health products (herbs, dietary supplements, vitamins) each one hand-selected and reviewed. Free shipping available. Top-rated customer service by BizRate.com. BizRate is listed in the directory, but in my opinion, the listing is inadequate. BizRate.com : Printers - Comparison pricing for printers, along with store profiles. -- http://www.bizrate.com/marketplace/category/cat_front.xpml?cat_id=420 Home: Consumer Information: Computers and Internet: Hardware: Printers (1)

I have read the post using Babelfish, and suggest that your questions are being adequately addressed in that thread by a meta editor. Please, for the good of this process, do not post the same question in multiple threads.

I only speak English, but it appears that you have discussed this with an editor who speaks French in another thread. I refer you to that thread.

These tips are not in any way specific to your application, as I have no information about your application. When applying, you must find quality web sites to add. Go to Google and find useful resources. You must add them to the right category, demonstrating a basic understanding of the directory. Your descriptions and titles must match the DMOZ "style", and make no grammatical or mechanical errors in your writing. Take a look through the category you are applying to edit and its parent and sister categories. Try to write your titles and descriptions like the ones in those categories. If you cannot discern a specific style, find a well-developed category and read the titles and descriptions there. The editorial standards for DMOZ are different from other directories. Do not write a "Yahoo!" style title or description, or a "LookSmart" style title or description. If you have an affiliation with a business that could in any way benefit from a listing anywhere in DMOZ, you should state it. If you have an affiliation with a business that could in any way benefit from a listing in the category to which are applying, then you must state it. Finally, apply for a small, non-commercial category at first, a category with little potential for abuse. As you learn more about the directory, and improve your skills, you may be able to edit other categories. Follow these tips, and your chances of being accepted are greatly improved.

Re: trouble with submission Thanks for the tip vmcknight. I just did.

Hi Admin Apeuro, Can you change my status to "editor". I edit Chiclids in Shopping, Cerebral Palsy in Health, and Illinois Hospitals in Health.
-
As long as www.rtinnovations.com wasn't and isn't submitted to the directory, it should have absolutely no effect on the placement of your new site. ODP does not punish people for having multiple versions of their site, just for submitting them.

Re: trouble with submission just_browsing, Don't know who you are, but it's fun reading your posts.

What are you doing with all those cats?

The search was last updated on May 18th. You can look at the bottom of the search results page to see that. If your site was added after the 18th, then it's not a bug - it's just not in the search database yet.

My favorite quote from this thread: "My site is no different than 95% + of the sites listed".

>>No, it would be the same as putting Alternative Medicine on a tier with Medicine, which is the case. The only difference would be to rename Religion to Alternate Religions.<< Axacta, is this what you are suggesting? That DMOZ restructure the categories so that instead of Religion, they have Christianity and Alternative Religions?
-
This is a circular arguement, not a constructive discussion. Axacta, you will find the answers you are looking for by taking several hours and reading through the guidelines. The guidelines explain the heirarchical structure of the directory. You can read them here: http://dmoz.org/guidelines.html The simplest way to explain this that I have come up with is this: Christianity is a Religion. Religions go in the category Religion. The category Religion is in the category Society and Culture. It makes sense. There is no "judgement" going on here. Also, I have to reinforce my earlier comment - the sheer volume of sites listed in Christianity means that there are a number of dedicated ODP editors seeking out sites and adding them at a furious rate.
-
DMOZ doesn't build their heirarchy of information based upon the volume of information available. They sort information logically. Size is more a result of editor interest and effort. The sheer size of the Christianity section should tell you that there are some editors working their bums off adding sites in there. That should make you happy. Be happy.
-
This just reinforces an idea I've been stewing on: Editors are human beings. Design your site for human beings. Don't get mad at them because of your inability to design for human beings.

Here's an excellent overview of deeplinking: http://dmoz.org/newsletter/2001May/deeplink.html
