Allgemein (englisch) steht es in http://dmoz.org/license.html - verwiesen wird dort auf den Beispielcode in http://dmoz.org/become_an_editor .

I would suggest keeping the communication to this forum, since its the most professional communication platform that we offer. I dont think that any information you could not provide in the open would change the situation.

Achte darauf, daß Du nicht bei einem Mirror schaust. Bis die Downstreamuser wie Google die Daten übernehmen dauert es einige Zeit.

Keep in mind that this is not official ODP forum but one run by some editors for the public. And before you ask: Yes, thats a difference <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />

I just did another mining for a category I would have sworn (6 month ago) you couldn't find another quality site for. Category doubled in size this time. Not only that there are new sites, I'm a lot better in finding them today :-)
-
First one should be explained with "and does not include any catids," from above. its not a fully valid RDF dump which can be used by all users without thinking. [Edit] And apart from that maybe staff put them on another server, so editing is not affected by all the people downloading it at the same time...

General speaking, in smaller categories the chance of being accepted is higher than in larger ones. The number "100" that is referenced quite often, normally includes the unreviewed entries waiting for the category. Since this number is unknown to you, you should assume its as high as the number of sites already listed. From what I see looking at the category you mentioned, I would say its a good category to start with. Be sure to be honest when filling out your application form, try to avoid getting penaltiesd for typos and other mistakes and so on :-)

Roofing Contractor So Calif regional listing need
windharp replied to a topic in Site Submission Status
Hey, you just submitted on 30/Jan/2003 - quite early for asking. In the Regiona-Tree Busines-Sites are listed according to their postal address, as exactly as possible. I could not find any address details on your site, so it wouldnt qualify for a listing in the Regional-Part of the directory anyway. -
In that paticular category several 100 submissions are waiting for review. Sorrys to say, but I think it will take some time till all are reviewed. Your site is waiting with the others, and its not the oldest one...
-
Your submission is waiting - dating 03/Feb/2003 - please save our time and dont ask to often. Thanks.

Waiting for review in that category. Your submission dates 14/Jan/2003 which is not that long... Please save our time and dont ask to often...

Ok, now I've got the time to look for the submission. Sorry, I skipped thois last time. One of your submissions was moved to Computers/Internet/Web_Design_and_Development/Hosting/1 where it is now awaiting review. The one you are talking about is waiting too, the queue is quite large so - I'm sorry to say - it might take quite some time. Please note that the submission guidelines state: "Choose the single most apropriate category for your submission". It does _not_ say submit to lots of different categories. Thanks. In case you didnt already know: What I mentioned in my first post (at least the part I left) does not affect your listing. We dont care if directories are protected or not. I actually made that post for something else which turned out to be wrong when I took a closer look, and I decided to leave the above for your information. -
Why dont you just look at http://dmoz.org/Arts/Celebrities/Image_Galleries/Female yourself?

[Edit: Drawing back statement #1 - leaving only the second] Btw: On the site http://www.foxdigital.com/ you are lacking of access restrictions. *vbg* Very interesting content. I for myself like the keyword reports best. -
Remember: The ODP is nosearch engine but a directory. There is no automatic dropping of entries in a directory, so there is no need to resubmit. I simply dont understand why resubmitting to a directory should help in any way. Either the site is apropriate for listing, then a time will come when it is listed. Or its not listable, then resubmitting will only annoy editors, so there wwill come a time when they stop looking at the site before deleting it.

Normally weekly. At the moment due to technical problems, a search was created by a workaround and we dont expect a new one for 2-3 weeks.

To quote your sites details: "Contact the Travel-South-Africa Guide" "© Travel-South-Africa" Since we dont care for SEO, we take what we see on the site. Preferably a company title if available. And we never follow deletion requests (except for sites not matching our guidelines, of course). Who would tell us that the submitter owns the site he wants deleted?

Re: Status http://www.1is2fat.com/ If an editor sees a good submission, he maybe will prefer to process it. But to be honest: I dont check all sites in a 100+ queue before I start working, to much work. I just start somewhere (not necessarily with the oldest one) and process some.
-
Re: Status http://www.1is2fat.com/ I was editing a german category with this topic some time ago. You are right, there are some pages that share valuable content, but its very difficult to find them. IIRC from about 100 submissions, there where about 10 sites acceptable including about 1-2 sites with noncommercial content. Even the listable commercial sites of that type are usually very low on content. And of course the editor has to look at every single one of the 100 to find the 10, sometimes search for a proof that its a mirror/... for quite long and ends up with just 1-2 really good sites...

Its waiting with a lot of other sites for someone to pass by and review it. Seems that area is quite crowded, sorry to say.
-
still waiting with a bunch of others. Please stop resubmitting, this just takesx your entry back to the end of the queue (when sorted by date). And please stop submitting to other categores as well. Thanks.
-
No, they wont be marked as spam. If you would have enclosed submission details (category-URL and submitted URL) someone could have looked if the submission arrived.
-
No, every category has a separate queuee.
-
You can ask in the Site Submission status forum - read the posting guidelines of that area before posting a request.

1) How long "Update URL" needs depends on several points. it is treated as a normal new URL by the system, but marked as "Update", so if an editor wants to process it faster [beacuse its less work] he is able to do it. _If_ an editor comes round and edits in the category :-) 2) As noted several times in this forum, DMOZ search is - due to technical problems - still based on a database built in september. 3) Same as 2) - relying on the same database file (called RDF file) so Google cant download the data right now. Staff is working on the problem first priority, but there are lots of other things to do since server capacity has to be increased at the moment. So: No, we cant promise any date for a solution, sorry.
