Re: Change Category or resubmit? We cant check if you are in any queue. In fact a listing of all sites in all queses qould be a bit to large to look at it :-) We can check single queues so please remember where you submitted, if you want to ask later on.

http://www.designhaus-i-d.com/ -> http://www.industrialdesignhaus.com/
windharp replied to designhaus's topic in Business
Re: DesignHaus site submission And actually its not this forum but the "Submission State" forum which is the one below this on the main page. There you will find some more information in the sticky posts at the top -
Come on, PLEASE wait at least a month before asking. If everybody would ask for his/her submission one day after submission we would never actually have time to edit...
-
Waiting for review. Please leave AT LEAST one month before asking, thank you.
-
This was actually asked there - no need to answer here.
-
The same in the other direction: If the site clearly belongs to a company with a brick and mortar store situated in MyVille it can be listed there. If its a virtual company only existing in the internet it wont be.

Such matters are discussed inside the ODP. Servers are set up by AOL/Netscape, so in some way the ODP depends on how many server capacity they provide.
-
From the technical side: Of course, if you download the ODP data as an RDF file (see http://dmoz.org/rdf.html ) to a local database you can add and remove links. From the "Legal" side: See http://dmoz.org/license.html for details, I quote it: "1. Basic License. Netscape grants you a non-exclusive, royalty-free license to use, reproduce, modify and create derivative works from, and distribute and publish the Open Directory and your derivative works thereof, subject to all of the terms and conditions of this Open Directory License. You may authorize others to exercise the foregoing rights; provided, however, that you must have an agreement with your sublicensees that passes on the requirements and obligations of Sections 2 and 4 below and which must include a limitation of liability provision no less protective of Netscape than Section 6 below. " So as long as you obey the usual legal issues and add something like it is shown on http://dmoz.org/become_an_editor you can freely do whatever you like with the data.

Its waiting for review in the subcategory T.

I'm not a specialist in this issue, but I could imagine three situations, where you really could not access the site. Be assured I did not check if either of the three is applicable: 1) Your request is not "identifying correctly" in any form [i don't know how those have to be done, only a guess]. The only thing I know is that I tried a Delphi-programmed minibrowser last year which was unable to connect to DMOZ, too. Had no error handling implemented, so I dont actually know why. 2) From your site, extreme heavy traffic was generated - especially regarding search requests. If that was the case, you should switch to a RDF-based directory instead of feeding from live data - download the RDF data once and supply the categories from your local server. Thats the way it normally should be for any downstream-user. Of course there is one temporary problem: RDFs are normally generated weekly but due to technical difficulties the last successfull RDF dump has been made in September. 3) If you would have violated ODP terms of service in the past, you might have been blocked for that. Cant spot anything likely to violate ODP guidelines on your site now, but I cant look into the past :-) [EDIT AGAIN] Oh, well I see a possible reason for 3 - Please have a look at http://dmoz.org/become_an_editor/ again. Can't spot http://dmoz.org/about.html

As you propably may have noticed it is working again. At least when I'm browsing your site. AFAIK the server might have been down for some hardware replacement action, something like this was planned for some time now.
-
No editor touched your submission yet (whereever you submitted).
-
Recveived and waiting in a fairly large queue.
-
Please note that this forums rules state the following:
-
It is waiting in a rather large queue - but as I see it, it is the right category. Sorry to say, but you will have to be patient.
-
Juist as a side note - recapitulate the registering process: 1) You fill the form 2) You get an E-Mail asking you to confirm your mail-address (You have to reply) 3) You get an "Your application has been received" message. Its long ago - but please try to remember (or look it up) if you received both mails. Otherwise your application was not stored and of course could not be accepted <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" />

DMOZ is quite slow at the moment. Staff informed editors that some damaged hardware will be replaced in the next few days. It may be that the hamsters are running at half speed or something, its the same on the editor side. Please try again in some days. There are known issues with IE and high security settings (which dont save you anyway - to many holes in them) - but afaik there are no known iussues with Mozilla yet. General advice, not directly connected to this issue: * Dont use a proxy * Keep an eye on your firewall, sometimes they filter more than is good for you ;-)

Re: Status Check Please Without knowing the category we can only tell you that no editor touched a submission with that URL yet. So it is still waiting for review whereever you submitted...
-
Lets assume I would review 100 sites a day. Do you think I want to answer 100 questions like this each day? PLEASE use this forum only for sites that wait for a LONG time - otherwise we might decide its better not to answer those type of questions anymore. 1) If it was listed it would appear in the category almost instantly (sometimes the update client is some hours behind due to server load). 2) If it appears in the category - of course it is in the next successfull data dump that starts after this point (wouldnt make any sense if it wasnt like this, huh?)

Rejected and not likely to be listed anywhere in ODP. See our Site Selection Cirteria for details.

-
(What would I give if people would actually read some other forum posts before posting their questions <img src="/images/icons/mad.gif" alt="" /> ) The DMOZ RDF datafile which is used for DMOZ search and for all downstream datausers like google has not been generated since september due to technical problems. We hope the problem is solved soon, but cant promise anything.
