Date of last update of the asearch-database is shown at the bottom of each site of search-results. Must be newer than entry to be able to search it /images/icons/smile.gif

Re: Can you check on status of my submission >http://directory.google.com/ Keep in mind, that google does not update its copy of ODP to often. Feel free to look at the ODP itself to check for your listing: http://dmoz.org/Computers/Software/Internet/Site_Management/Monitoring/Hosted_Monitoring/

There was an account "maddan" as you can see here: http://dmoz.org/Bookmarks/M/maddan/ Of course I dont know if it was yours /images/icons/smile.gif Maybe that helps you remember?

Dont send a request for deletion, send a request for *moving* the entry instead, if you feel so. Keep in mind every entry is processed by a human, so you can feel totally free to write anything in the comments you like to. Even in the description you give you can put some comments for the editor [maybe in brackets like here] /images/icons/smile.gif

@Dr P: Yes of course, but the travel-guide you quote is thematically listing in Regional /images/icons/smile.gif So it normally would just qualify for one listing there.

Re: Another baffled submitter! I did not look where you submitted them, but looking at the content of your first site in your list you should have submitted it to the regiponal part dealing with Cornwall since its a single accomodation. Dont know if you did.

ODP listed site increases it's Google Ranking Pos
windharp replied to web's topic in General Curlie Issues
Right. Maybe a little bit more in this case, but every occurance of a site on another one increases google ranking. Maybe more in case of ODP because its considered to be a source of good sites :/images/dmoz/purplegrin.gif I for myself would be glad if the google-ones think so /images/icons/smile.gif -
Re: help if possible --> Discussion in other languages --> Diskussionen in anderen Sprachen --> discussions dans d'autres langues --> discusiĆ³n en otras idiomas http://resource-zone.com/postlist.php?Cat=&Board=world (Hope this helps adolf)

If there is a category that suits your site please only submit main URL. If you feel a special part of your site might fit another category you are free to submit it there. But keep in mind: * In a category there wont be a listing in subcategories of one where a listing exists * If content not unique or considered not good enough to qualify for a second listing it will be denied, * Please never submit more than one URL to the same category. Only one listing in a category as a rule. As you say, DMOZ does not do any spidering. In fact its a catalogue. Something people walk through and read categories. /images/icons/smile.gif

Re: trouble with submission Jst looked at your site too, and would advice to: * Give a postal address. I for myself dont consider it reliable if not... * A domain name like yours says "Hey, this company does only exist in the WWW - we didnt even bother to give it a name!" - :-( * Not something related to a listing, but annoying: I'm using Opera and had to close your site when entering the quote form. Kept popping up Error because form not filled...

Just thinking about your comment and got to the following: [ironic] If all possible and good sites are already listed - Why do you want to become an editor of the cat? /images/icons/smile.gif Want an easy job? [/ironic] I dont know any category in ODP where no unlisted but good sites exist. Maybe except very small towns with only 2 sites up-and-running /images/icons/smile.gif Just do a google - I'm sure it'l show some fitting sites.
-
Just an example for all the dumb people like me /images/icons/smile.gif main URL would be something like: http://www.dmoz.org A deeplink would be: http://www.dmoz.org/World/Deutsch (which is the german part of ODP)

just for all to understand: What kctipton wanted to say is: Dont quote entries that are "wrong" or like in this case "bad style" and ask if your entry could look the same. /images/icons/smile.gif

brad: Please contact any Metaeditor reading these forums and ask him/her. Tell the Editor-Name your wife used and I'm sure you will get an answer. [Edit] The problem with requesting feedback is: Who did she request answers from? Staff is very unlikely to answers mails, they get tons of it. They try to process only the ones, noone else could deal with (abuse reporting, ...) Keep in mind that talking about "staff" is not talking about a big group but was just 1 person for a long time...

Since I think not only rikmak is interested in this (and I cant think of any reason myself - lol) - Can you summarize in what cases where the link is not listed it is checked by Robo? (In the forum because I had those question more than once in other forums and guess it will reappear he to). In my knowledge Robozilla only visits sites listed in the ODP at the moment of his tour. The site may have been taken out of ODP adfterwards but should have been in - or am I wrong?

Hmmm... I just read the license again and it says "Copy+Paste the following HTML" ... See http://dmoz.org/become_an_editor/

You dont think that picture is slightly large, huh?

>ODP does not allow 1 site to be in different categories.. Wrong. Every commercial site might be listed in two places: 1) Regional where the complany is situated 2) Thematic in the category the site fits in >Is that possible to change the category to the global?? Two possible ways of having an editor to do this: 1) Submit to the category you think it fits in. Since every entry is processed by an editor, you can write any comments to the editor in the description you submit. For example you can but them in [ - brackets. 2) If you want the entry to be moved you could submit an "update-URL"-Request on the entry that is already listed.

A personal interest is rarely a reason for rejection, except if: * you didnt state it in the form and the Meta found out (honest editors preferred /images/icons/wink.gif ) * it is for one of the cats where spamming is common all over the internet [Edit: added from here] If you guess the second one might be the case just apply for another category, get some editing practice. If Meta-Editors see you are doing a good job its more likely that you can edit that part too /images/icons/smile.gif
