The easiest way would be to apply for the category where you think the new category should be placed and suggest that the new category should be created. Maybe give a link to this thread, too.

Site is waiting in a small queue, on the first glace I would say the rest is 90% spam. So I would guess that if an editor comes around to review sites he might process yours, too.

To me it means I can count them using one hand (or two hands maybe) <img src="/images/icons/wink.gif" alt="" /> But please note, that this is not necessarily related to the time-to-review. That depends on so many factors, that we are unable even to give an educated guess. May be from 5 minutes to several years - mostly depends on the amount of editor activity in that region which is not predictable.

Re: http://www.headcovers.com/ They are put on the public pages via a queue. This normally needs only some seconds to some mintutes. Due to the recent HDD crash the queue had been disabled for some days and thatfor was behind for some time. I dont know exactly, but yersterday I had the feeling that it is back to "as good as instantly" again. [EDIT] Some additions, not meant for your eyes only - more for the general public. I can understand you very well, doing internet-business is a difficult thing. Please note, that the ODP never guaranteed listings, which was stated in the rules almost since the beginning. The weight, some search engines put on an ODP-listing is something we have no influence on and which was never intended by the founders of the ODP. So please dont blame us for googles technology ;-) It may sound stupid, but there is a point that the forum guidelines say "We dont process your listings after you posted here" - it would not be manageable. We need a lot more time to process single entries than to process a whole category at one time. We might react on an "there is a mistake in that entry" request, but we wont review a site after someone posted here.

In fact you did submit http://www.readersrefuge.com.au/ which is now waiting among a hand full of other sites for an editor to come along and review them.

You might be able to draw some information out of this thread where I just posted. Most of those categories have a large backlog and thatfor are not given to new editors (the frustration rate in such a category is high, the amount of "damage" an abusive editor could make is very high, ...). If you want to see the fun that editing could be - start in a regional category. For example with yout hometown (or for big cites with a part of it).

Since it looks like no Metaeditor wants to answer this one, I'll give it a try. I'm no metaeditor and thatfor not directly involved in processing new esitor applications. You are right that the category is not to large, but keep in mind that a lot of sites are waiting for review. I processed some of them, trying to reduce the number so that new applications could be acceted easier. In that process I have seen that most of the submissions are spam. In fact I was only able to delete about 20% of the waiting sites and unable to list a single site of those I viewed. I assume, that the fact that a lot of sites are waiting (category size counts as "published sites+unreviewed sites" for an application) and the percentage of spam makes metaeditors think twice about accepting new editors for that category.
