Hi folks,

I hope this is the right forum to ask about this!

The following URL's used (about 2 years ago) to be listed in http://dmoz.org/Computers/Graphics/Web/Templates/ :

http://www.elated.com/pagekits/
http://www.pagekits.com/

I think these URL's were added by the editor (we didn't submit them AFAIK).

I just searched for "pagekits" today and the URL's appear to have been removed. I don't think these URL's would violate the submission guidelines in any way. Is there any way I can get these sites reinstated? Should I just resubmit the URL's?

Thanks :)
Matt

Hi Matt,

www.elated.com/pagekits/ has never, as far as I can see, been listed in the ODP. There is no log in that category or on the URL itself indicating that an editor has ever touched it. www.pagekits.com was listed in that category until very recently, but as it is a product-specific sub site of www.elated.com, which is listed in http://dmoz.org/Computers/Graphics/Web/Free/Page_Elements , it was removed. Our guidelines don't allow for specific product listings unless they are very different from the main focus of the company. This is also true for www.elated.com/pagekits ; it would not be listed.

Hope that explains it. {moz}

Hi leer/nea,

Thanks for your replies - much appreciated :) I didn't realise http://www.elated.com/pagekits/ was never listed - maybe it was always just listed as http://www.elated.com/ ?

I see what you're saying about www.pagekits.com being a product-specific sub site of www.elated.com. However the main focus of our company (in terms of revenue) is web site design. PageKits.com is a separate spin-off site really, rather than a sub site, and is marketed as a separate enterprise. I can appreciate that it's a close call though.

The templates at www.elated.com/pagekits/ are actually free - not really "products" as such. Would it be possible to get this page listed at http://dmoz.org/Computers/Graphics/Web/Templates/ at least, do you think?

Thanks again for your help!
Matt

Sorry, we're not interested in your marketing plans -- other than a certain amount of understandable mistrust at what people might to do the ODP in the way of abuse for the sake of the marketing plans.

"Spin-off", "subsite", "product-line-specific" site, doorway, target-market site ... all different words for "no we can't list it per specific staff edict".

Hi hutcheson,

Thanks for the clarification. I appreciate what you're saying. I think the point I'm trying to make is that all the resources on www.elated.com are free, and www.pagekits.com is a separate, paid web templates site. It is not a "doorway site" or just a way to try and get another listing for the sake of it. It really is a separate site offering unique content, along with the other sites you have listed at http://dmoz.org/Computers/Graphics/Web/Templates/ . Hope that makes sense! :)

Thanks,
Matt

That just answered my question about my blog.
No need to even bother the editors with a submission.

The neat thing about the ODP is even if you don't submit your site could be listed. Sites like Blogs, fansites for movies or games, and hobby sites are actively hunted down and listed by editors without ever being submitted. Though I have found some nice sites from submissions most of the quality stuff I have added I have found myself.

Peace.
