I have been waiting for over 2 years to get listed. My question is, since I don't know, or am unable to find out the status of my submission, is it a good idea to request submission every few months?

I don't want to overload the editors since they are understandably overwhelmed the way it is.

My site is, repsforrent.com and I think it is appropriate for the category: /Business/Marketing_and_Advertising/Telemarketing/

Thanks for your help.

Short answer- No.

Slightly longer answer - One additional suggestion after a period of 6 months to a year, won't be looked at as spamming. A very good reason not to keep suggesting is: when suggesting to the same category, the additional suggestion overwrites the prior suggestion. If an editor is reviewing by date suggested, all you're doing is sending your suggestion to the bottom of his pile of sites (over and over and over).

Thanks Imocr.

I had a feeling that would be the result. I have been suggesting the site for inclusion about once every 6 months, so thats possibly the reason I'm not listed yet.

Now I know.

Thanks again for your help and your quick response.

Good post,

I have been waiting 5 months so far, but I may have resubmitted it 1 month after the initial submission, just can't remember. The catagory I submitted to has been updated once in 7 months, so that's not too encouraging. My site is very similar to two of my friends sites that have been included, so there shouldn't be an issue with the content.

Huh?

What an editor would say is, "a site must be different from all other sites, both of friends and enemies: that's the only way that there won't be an issue with its content."

A completely separate note: I do trust you have links from your friends' sites? If friends won't link to you, you can hardly expect strangers to....

I too have been waiting more than two years. In that time I have seen no changes or new additions to my category (clothing>T-shirts>ethnic and regional). I think that's pathetic.

Shopping is one of those areas that attracts more interest from webmasters suggesting sites than from people willing to edit in the categories. It is also one of those areas that is very difficult to edit in without the experience to handle the 'spam'.

A good site does not have to rely on an ODP listing to survive and prosper.

Submit and forget

Hutcheson, what I meant by similar was in regards to the website sofware, frontpage, etc. Our product items are completely different. My site is also unique to the catagory I submitted it to, I have looked at all of the other sites listed and no one else is selling the items offered on my site.

I do have quality incoming links to my site as well as being listed in a number of other directories and a google ranking of 4.

Submit and forget it is good advice, although it is understandable that people would like to know if there site is rejected for some reason or just waiting in line.

Regards,
Tony

Considering that 99% or so of the submitters of rejected sites are affiliate/doorway/dropship/whatever spammers, it is still more understandable that the volunteer editors are justifiably reluctant to discuss site rejections.

In practice, that means it's best not to talk about pre-rejected suggestions. And, since we can't tell the difference between them an pre-accepted suggestions, ... that doesn't leave much.

You can assume if a site is rejected, it's 99% sure for a good reason. And there's no good way to pick out the 1% worth reconsideration. It's better to rely on other ways of finding websites.

What is doorway

I have seen this word several times and wonder what it means? Also do you ever find out if you have been rejected? or do you just wait and wait and.....

(1) A doorway site is a site that is intended only to drive commercial traffic or sales to some OTHER company (or website). If a webmaster "offers", "advertises", or "promotes" goods or services that he does not actually "provide" then it's a doorway.

(2) You don't know when or why an editor might have reviewed your site, nor do you know why they might have decided not to list it.

On the other hand, editors don't know how or why you decided what not to publish on your website.

That's mutual independence on the web.
