2nd Editor

Hi,

I have applied to the following category: Top: Business: Investing: Commodities, Futures: Education and Training

When I have applied an editor was required to this category. A few days ago, I have seen that an editor was added. Do I still stand a chance to become one in this category?

If not, could you suggest a category to apply to, since my expertise falls within the entire realm of the commodities trading group.

Kindly,

MattZ

I'm a bit confused by this. The current editor for that category has been there since June 13th, but your application was only submitted on Aug 11th. That editor has been there for a while :) Just because there is an editor it doesn't mean that the Become an Editor link goes away.

Sometimes we will accept more than one editor for a category, but usually not on such a small category. It's hard to recommend another category for you there. Pick any of the ones with less than 100 listings, read through the information contained in the FAQ and General Advice thread in this forum, and try again.

Thank you for your reply. I am a bit confused my-self.
Should I not wait until I get the results whether I was rejected before I apply to another category in this field?

Yes. I think donaldb was talking about the case when you get rejected. But let's not get there yet. At the moment you should wait for the reply :)

<added>And there are a lot of cases where I'd accept 2 editors or more for a specific small category.

Umm - you should have received those results with comments about the same time that I posted above - sorry :(

Again, thank you for your reply. I have read the entire editing guidelines and tried to follow them accordingly. I guess that some mistakes were done along the way.

I have made my copy on a word document, and then passed onto the DMOZ App. Again, maybe I have made some mistakes along the way in cutting and pasting it as well. I will review my app, and try to make the recommended changes that were mentioned in the email.

I was thinking that in order not to make a drastic change, I could apply to: http://www.dmoz.com/Business/Investing/Day_Trading/Education_and_Training/

Would you recommend that?

Donald and Vlad, I appreciate your time and attention.

Regards

That category sounds fine with me. Have fun with that! :)

Did it Vlad,

Changed the app a lot. I think that my previous app was a bit too conservative. I got off the "high-horse" that I was on.

I hope that I will make it this time around as I feel that my experince is great in this specific field.

Thanks for your time and encouragement.

Hi Donaldb,

I have received the comments about my last app. Thank you! I will concentrate on the comments and read the suggested material.

I mentioned my affiliation with www.optimusfutures.com in the last app.

I am truly touched with the help I received in ths forum. It seems that I could learn much more from you in the future.
You will receive my app again, today. You guys are

Regards,

MattZ

Donaldb,

I have read again and again the last comments that were made. I guess that I was so eager to find sites, that I have forgot for a minute that they need to contribute some value such as education.

I have found 2 new sites, however this time I will write my title and description slowly, so the next time it is accepted.

Have a good night. I hope that TO is out of the dark. :)

Although the application says to list 2 or 3 sites, you are probably almost always better off actually submitting three.

If you have more than three then you can use the public submit interface to put them directly in the unreviewed queue of the category and mention that on the application as well. If you are approved as editor then they'll await your arrival too.

And as a follow-on to what giz says, if you are having trouble finding 3 sites for the category, then you may want to think about finding another category to work on. Why apply to work on a category that may be tapped out? Not to say that there isn't work to be done on categories even with no new sites to submit. But you may find yourself getting frustrated rather quickly if you pick a category where there isn't a lot to be added. Just something to think about.

Thanks Giz,

I will submit three. I am working currently on the 2 that I have found and will find a third one tomorrow.

Thanks for the tip. It seems that everybody provides me with good tips. Well, if I make it....a big steak for everyone-on me! Fillet Mignon medium-rare?

Hi Donald,

I have switched one category before as it was suggested. The other categories that I feel comfortible editing contain many companies and most likely to have a few editors already. If you permit, please let me stick with this one as I am trying to improve on my title and descriptions. I am a very persistent person and I do not get discouraged, rather with each submission I learn from my mistakes and try to improve on them.

If I was discouraged easily I would not have applied from the first place. I knew that the chances to get in on the first app are very slim. Please bare with me as I am sure that I can make it...sooner or later.

I appreciate your patience.

An excellent quality for an editor. :D When you finally get accepted ;) consider asking for a mentor - they're there to give specific, personal assistance if you need it.

Lissa,

Thank you for your positive thoughts. I will be looking for a mentor as soon as I am accepted.

This time I have chosen carefully the sites and the descriptions, while making a reference to the guides lines and the editor's comments.

The application process gave me a good insight as to the organization and the standards of DMOZ. I am impressed.

I hope that this time around I will make it.

I have been rejected twice.. (LOL) I am learning a lot too. I am hoping to meet a lot of help here that have experience when I become an editor.
