I just wanted to make what we do as editors clear, for any readers who might have gotten the wrong impression,
.
Regional editing is a little bit different than Topical editing, as we place sites by location (and topics within that location). A small town/village/city (locality) is given an opportunity to be represented as a geographical area on the Internet where they can compete with other localities.
It's very similar to what a Chamber of Commerce might do by listing all of their business members, only we list much more than just that.
My own small town had only 4 sites listed when I started, now it has 130 sites, that I found on my own by searching through phone books, ads, business cards, and searching for links on other sites.
It's a lot of fun to build a community up, sort of like going on a scavenger hunt, and it's a great community service for your area. Every small locality deserves to be represented on the Internet.
If you take a look at a map of your country, no matter if it's the USA, Canada, China, or Africa, and see how many localties it has, you'll get an idea of the breadth that Regional editing is involved in, and understand the job that a few thousand editors have. Our editors are from every country in the world,
, in every language, and they are all volunteering their free time.
