Hi there, I'm trying to update my listing in:

Regional: North America: Canada: Ontario: Localities: B: Burlington: Business and Economy: Computers and Internet: Internet

But when I enter the URL and click Update Listing, I get a 500 Internal Server Error:

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator, webmaster@dmoz.org and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Is it just me?

Thanks

Not just you

I got the same thing. I tried to send an email to the address indicated by the error page, but then received a reply indicating that no one checks that address. So here's the text of my email:

I was attempting to update the listing for my site when I encountered an Internal Service Error. I had filled in my site URL and clicked the Update Listing button from this URL: http://www.dmoz.com/cgi-bin/update.cgi?where=Arts/Literature/Reviews_and_Criticism

If you are able to go ahead and update my listing, I would very much appreciate it. The old information is:
The Great Wall of Books
http://books.walkingthenight.com/

The new information is:
A Book Lover's Book Reviews
http://www.bookloversreviews.com/

If you cannot update my listing, please just let me know when that function on the website is working again and I will be happy to update the listing myself. Thanks so much.

I've verified this and posted it (marked critical) for the technical staff. I would expect it may be Monday or later before they get a chance to look at it. You can check back in this thread, as I (or another editor) will announce it here when it's fixed.

Thanks for reporting this. :monacle:

Same problem here - I was trying to update my dmoz listing which appears under "Recreation: Food: Drink: Wine: Australia" but got the dreaded 500 error when I hit the update listing button - where do we go from here?

I also received the same error when trying to update to Games: Online: MUDs: Roleplaying: Science Fiction: Star Wars for my site, http://www.swmud.org.

I'll check back in a couple of days and see if it's fixed.

Same exact problem, and then I received an email from webmaster@dmoz.org saying that it was not a valid email address????
This email address is a black hole -- no one reads it.

Yes, the automatic reply you got was telling you to go to RZ in order to get more information. Staff at DMOZ is only three persons (not even sure they're full-time), and nobody is able to answer e-mails reports of malfunctions.

As theseeker said earlier in this same thread, the problem has been reported as critical. Since the technical staff is in California, it's still very early Monday morning for them, so please wait for a few hours more. Somebody will post here when we have news.

Same Server Error when Updating Listing

Not just you. I tried to update a listing in this subcategory today:
Computers: Internet: Web Design and Development: Designers: Freelance: R

And I received the same error.

Hopefully this can be fixed soon.

This appears to have been fixed (my tests went through this time). Anyone still experiencing problems, please feel free to repost here.

Still getting 500 Internal Server Errors

I also tried this two different times today. The last attempt was at 12:57 CST.

We changed the name of our company so our domain name changed. Our old domain name was http://www.strategicbuzz.com/

The new domain name is http://www.culturaledgedmarketing.com.

The new site went up in Feb and the old one came down. During that time I tried to add the new site to the ODP but nothing happened, and since the old company listing still appears on ODP it seemed to make more sense to update that listing, but nothing seems to be updating.

TIA for your help.

I got all excited too, thinking I had finally made it through with no 500 Internal Server Errors - until - aaaaaargh - there it was

Unfortunately, the glitch remains. I was trying to edit my listing in Ontario:Richmond Hill:Business and Economy and I ran into the same problem. That is why I registered here to see what I was doing wrong.

I am trying to 'update URL' in this category: http://dmoz.org/Arts/Performing_Arts/Theatre/Community_Theatre/United_States/New_Hampshire/

I was getting the 500 internal server error, but now that error is gone, but I now get:

"URL not found. The site http://lakeside.artshost.com is not listed in this category. Please go back in your browser if you need to resubmit the form."

Is this still part of the 500 internal server error thingie that is being fixed?

An editor saw your post here yesterday and already changed the URL to http://www.lakesideplayers.org/ though it may not have updated on all the public servers yet.

My original post that all was fixed was apparently premature...I only tested up to update2.cgi, and not on to update3.cgi--bad manners for a programmer and tester, my apologies.

At this point, some update requests, at least, are going through, and it's hard to tell when the actual errors being reported above occurred. If there are further errors after the time of this post, please post them here, and please include the category and the website you were trying to update, so we can point the staff programmers to the specific error. Thank you. :monacle:
