It appears that your application was rejected back in January and you should have received an email with specific comments. The reviewing editor noted that none of the sample sites provided fit the scope of your selected category. Feel free to review the category description and try again.

Hi Artisan,

Thank you, I had missed that. Just dug through all my old emails and found it. Came in on my birthday even - to bad it was not more positive news.

I had suggested a slight change in the description when I applied, so that the category could be a little more inclusive.

The reviewer said:

Indeed, but this category is specifically for the web presence of print publications. Net based consumer information sites are listed in its sister categories.

I've searched for such a sister category and can not find it, which is why I suggested a small change in the description.

The change would bring this category in line with the descriptions of other categories' publication sections. For example, in the description for: http://www.dmoz.org/Science/Publications/ it includes "electronic publications." The section I applied for should do the same.

If there is a sister category to: http://www.dmoz.org/Home/Consumer_Information/Publications/ that includes websites, please let me know where it is and I'll happily apply there.

If not, can you advocate for the description update (and reconsider my my app for it)?

Thanks,

Chris

Home/Consumer_Information/Price_Comparisons/ is probably a reasonable fit.

However, it attracts a huge amount of spam and is unsuitable for a new editor. Editor applications are thus disabled.

Incidentally, we can't reconsider old applications.

No offense, but I'd be turned down in a heartbeat if I suggested the sites I did for that category.

DMOZ has so many needs, yet turns down expert help from people with proven dependability when it comes to being a trustworthy online volunteer (as detailed in my app).

I don't mean that to sound cocky, it's just seems very odd to turn away good help.

You are right. The sites from your application certainly do not belong in Price_Comparisons. I guess Jimnoble must have made a mistake in copying a category name in his answer.
Publications normaly also include electornic publications like e-zines. I see no reason why ikt would not be the case for this category
But not all websites and blogs are publications.
For me http://www.dmoz.org/Home/Consumer_Information/Consumer_Opinion/ seems a good category for such websites/blogs.

Thank you, that was my point. And agreed, not all are publications.

For me http://www.dmoz.org/...nsumer_Opinion/ seems a good category for such websites/blogs.

Perhaps... it looks like it might be more intended for review type sites though. There's no description on it. It needs some updating too, it looks like.

Both are categories that I have some knowledge in and I am willing to help if you want.

I don't mean to beat a dead horse - but if I apply again and became an editor for the category I am an expert in, may I update the description and improve/grow the category - or are descriptions written in stone?

Thanks,

Chris

Please use the internal forum for such questions.

Hi Elper -

That made me wonder for just a moment - :)

Then I figured that must be a reference to a dmoz editor only forum.

Thanks for the confirmation though.

I have reapplied - we'll see if I did better this time...

I misread the statement from chrisa
I read " and became an editor for the category" so I thought the application was accepted
I missed the part " but if I apply again" that IF means ofcourse it did nit happen yet
So my answer might have seen very strange

IF you become an editor you may discuss such changes on the internal forum
