7th Editor Application in 7 Years

Hi,

I've been applying to edit the programming game categories http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Simulation/Programming_Games/ especially http://www.dmoz.org/Games/Video_Games/Simulation/Programming_Games/Core_War/ for the last 7 year and have been rejected every time.

I don't understand what I'm doing wrong. I've correctly disclosed my affiliations (my sites are already listed).

I hate the fact most of these categories haven't been updated since January 2007 but it seems like I'm the only person who cares.

If you won't allow me to update them then at least could someone else take a look? The mess they're currently in reflects really badly on DMOZ and programming games in general :-(

A good application will show us
- you are able to find 3 websites that fit into the category, are not listed yet and are listable
- understanding of DMOZ guidelines about how to write good titles and description
- honesty and completeness (who are you and with which sites are you affiliated)

Being able to understand the message received after an unsuccesfull application and being able to solve the issues can be seen as part of the application process. Such tasks are things that an editor must do on a daily basis.

The dates at the bottom pf the page are all wrong due to a bug in the system.

I was careful to follow all of the guidelines and disclose all of my websites.

I only suggested 2 websites for the category, not the 3 you mention above. The application page states "Please provide two or three URLs that you would add to this category". Two should be adequate.

From the rejection email the only two reasons I suspect I might have been rejected are:

• "Not properly disclosing affiliations" - some of my writing is under a creative commons license and has been used on dozens of sites. Would this cause a problem? I've listed all the sites I own or contribute to regularly.
  
• "Self-Promotion" - I'm not sure why I'd be suspected since my website is already listed in the category?
  

I care about these subjects. Since no-one else has come forward I'd love to bring the categories up-to-date and turn them into a useful resource. In their current neglected state they're not much use to anyone :-(

I've tracked down 4 of your applications. In one of them, you claimed that you weren't listing all of your affiliations and in another, you didn't provide any examples at all!

The past has passed. If you'd like to apply again, please do so. However, I suggest that you first study this good advice.

The examples are your opportunity to show off your editorial skills, demonstrating that you understand the category, the types of website that we list and our title and description guidelines. Whilst we accept editor applications with only two good examples, it's always best to provide three in case one of them is unsuitable or goes down in the interim .

Thanks, I've read the good advice and I'll apply again at some point with three examples.
