A question of quality.

Quality? I can see tons of free yahoo sites listed on dmoz (full of popups,popunders,banners...), but the good sites that have a top level domain and very high quality levels (100% ad free)...

...i cant find those at dmoz open directory ;)

I would like dmoz to tell me what they undestand by quality lol

Banner ads and popups, by themselves, have nothing to do with the quality of the content on a site. Some of the most robust and content-filled sites I've seen are hosted on Geocities or another free webhost. On the other hand, some of the most useless wastes of space on the Net I've seen are fully hosted domains with no banner ads or popups.

What you mean is that you can't find *your* site in the directory. That's quite a different matter.

Quality for DMOZ is only in the content.
How a website is hosted, how good it grafics are or how nice its navigation is are of no influence (unless they prohibit us to see the content).
Unless the advertisments are the main purpose of a site or if they prohibit us to find enough unique content they won't stop the listing of a site.

If you know some good sites please suggest them to the best category you can find. Remember: you are allowed to suggest sites you don't own.

Sure, sure, you pick 100 free hosted yahoo sites, and 1 has good contents, its not my site that i dont find there, its many, many others (and before i wasnt referring popups as sign of quality, free hosted yahoo sites ARE PURE GARBAGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)...plz dmoz by itself has no quality at all rofl!!!!

I'm new to these threads and I've also tried getting my site listed. I have over 1300 pages of ATV related content and news but I don't get listed. Bubba Doofis down in Texas gets listed for drinking beers and riding his ATV with no helmet. It's OK though because an editor gives me a long and vague reason why. It's really weird but my google rank dropped 6 pages after putting a complaint like this one into DMOZ...

I know its funny but true. I can't believe it either but Im scared to post in here anymore...lol. I've read that Google uses DMOZ alot for its search results but I'm not sure how. Maybe the ODP is some kind of Google Lab to see how their robot indexer compairs to to a human one.

Thankfully, ODP editors don't prejudge sites simply because of where they are hosted.

Way to conspiracy theorize, ry415. :D
